The Golden Age of women songwriters. The 90s. Sheryl Crowe, Jonatha Brooke, Paula Cole, Gwen Stefani, Jewel, Lisa Loeb, Meredith Brooks. I know I'm leaving some out, but this was the best time for female songwriters.
At the time a lot of ppl judged her without knowing a thing about her. She is a badass guitarist! Some said she was another Alanis. Oh please, do some research. Meredith is almost 20y older than Alanis and she was around in the 70s! I love Alanis but they don't have A thing in common!
A girl I work with played this at work the other day. Takes me back a bit ....what a tune. What a talented, good looking girl is Meredith. Makes a pleasant change from the painted, plastic girls of today
Only the third woman at the time to appear on the cover of Guitar Player magazine. She's ripped on guitar her whole professional career. Had a band with two girls from The Go-Go's for a while there. Check out the acoustic version by adding "Australia" in the search.
She wrote this song for a friend of hers who was having some relationships issues with her husband. But it became a feminist anthem for many women in the 90s. First time I heard it on the radio I ran to the store to buy the cd. ❤
Oh? Weird. I thought that this was sung by Alanis Morissette. Goes to show how little I know. What a powerful performance. Love their smiles and Rockin' energy! Not to single anyone out, as all of these artists are wonderful, the drummer is ferocious! 🌺
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a bass player over play more than the chorus of this song. The guitars are hitting whole notes, drummer is driving them, all in support of the vocal. Meanwhile the drummer thinks he’s in Primus. At the worst time; save it for the bridge. It makes the chorus sound messy when vocals should be shinning. Crazy. And it still was a hit.
I know this song was influenced by Alanis' vibe from Jagged Little Pill. But it's a good tune. For a while people actually thought it was one of her songs.
This song has always been an ear worm. Funny how when I was young I didn’t like it, but now I’d give anything to turn on the radio and hear this instead of Playboi Carti
Pity, music is so loud. The vocals should be more dominant in this song, they silenced her too much. Otherwise, it would be near perfect, close to studio quality.
funny how the same folks who demonized rappers for using this word, are the same folks who yelled it at the top of their lungs when this song dropped. #theironyofitall
If the word in question is used as an insult rather than a form of reivindication -as Meredith does here- I can see why people could go mad. Hopefully those rappers weren't using it in a derogatory way, were they?

😮😮 i was thinking the same the other day!!! Not forget; shania twain? And the best Suzanne Vega
+ Alanis Morissette ❤
Tori Amos and PJ Harvey are better than all of them
Fiona Apple
Joanne Osborne

Not for the Palestinians. Israel was still killing them in the 90s.

Bad ass guitarist? I guess I'll have to search some of her other music, nothing impressive here at all.
Ah the 90s... great acoustics, feels like a church. Meredith :)

Uh, oh! I like it indeed. It's what r'n'r' is all about - power being arisen on honesty and passion.
I've always enjoyed this song. Nice to hear live its an awesome jam too. Great job!

People have been saying this since the song was released. Personally, I don't hear the resemblance, but apparently a lot of people do.

Yea she’s very attractive

444 is the light year distance to the 7 sisters... coincidence? Nah....

this is like the borderline people anthem
If it was a BPD people anthem it would just be “me me me meee, the world revolves around meeee”

Women guitarists are cool

@@morm0njesus "derogatory way"?... what's a "positive way"?
suppose you don't have any problem a white man sayin' "nigga this, nigga that"...right?
@@FelixBechini wow...here you go trying to play 'the deflection game', instead of staying on topic. #typicaltrolling
