Voctave is an 11-member a cappella group from the Central Florida area. Formed in the winter of 2015, the voices that bring their artistic arrangements to life represent a wealth of diverse backgrounds and musical experiences.

Kate Lott (the soprano soprano) is a professional at leaving people's jaws on the floor. The highest note I've heard her sing is a G6 in Mary Did You Know.

@@maggiereneemusic FINALLY!!! Somebody else who hears what Kate is doing at the edges of the universe!! Sometimes you only hear the echo of the notes she hits because everyone else is so loud that you can only hear her notes as the others fades away. She reminds me of my mom. She's the one who got me "listening" to Opera. Don't get me wrong, I do not know enough about Opera to be dangerous. What I can do is appreciate the effort and training it took to be able to sing this genre' of music. Thanks for recognizing Kate for the notes you may not hear clearly, but would sorely miss were they not there.

"Great Movie Medley" is incredible - they sound like an orchestra in several parts of it. "Disney Showstoppers Medley" shows off the guys the way this one featured the ladies. And "Disney Love Medley" features Kirstie from Pentatonix and (her at the time fiancé) Jeremy Michael Lewis. All are amazing...Voctave is amazing.

Kate Lott (the super freak soprano) is a friend of a friend of mine (college, in her wedding, etc.). She’s insane, and her high notes (almost whistle tones, really) are her thing. It’s rare that they don’t get featured in Jamie’s arrangements.
One more thought on Kate's high notes. She gets those in without drowning out the soloist. Her control is amazing.
I have not seen Maggie so stunned and silent for so long...🤣

I told you last Christmas to check out Voctave with Mark Lowry, Mary Did you Know. The best version I've ever heard. Mark Lowry who wrote it really brings it to life with Voctave delivering the power harmonies!

I'd love to see someone compare "Mary, Did You Know" sung by both Voctave and Pentatonix. They have very different arrangements of the same song. Fascinating to me; I would wonder how a classically-trained musician would think about the two.
@@nosbig98 Pentatonix did a great job, but its hard to beat the author of the song. I love the Voctave version more. But truthfully, the best best best version of the song was on the Bill Gaither Hawaiian Homecomings video when Mark Lowry, Guy Penrod, and David Phelps sang it live. I saw the Gaither Vocal Band with Mark, Guy, and David on New Years eve in Charlotte NC around 2000. They sang it and literally shook the dust loose from the rafters. There was a shower of dust when they hit that high part, "The Praises of the Lamb"!
I just love the fact that you were so obsessed with Kate's super high notes that you repeated them for so many times. Don't worry Maggie... I do that A LOT of times too. 🤣

Nice reaction. Voctave is one of the best Acapella groups out there, and I think the most technical, which you would uniquely appreciate. Jamey Ray, second from left, who has one arm, is the founder and arranger. Kate Lott, the high soprano, is world class. But they are all top pros who sing professionally daily. Guy on the left, waving his arm was the director, Tony de Rosa, some say the best barbershop singer of all time. They also seem to be friends with Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voice Play

Its really hard to be that high and loud, but to be that high and soft...... Normal humans could never. The high notes would stick out anyway, but it never feels overbearing. Speaks to her talent and training.

One of the best skills they have is their ability to NOT OVERPOWER each other. There is never a time when an individual blares their part over the top of another. The ability to sing softly but with intensity is a very rare skill.

I got to see Kate perform with the Voices of Liberty at EPCOT back in February, she absolutely stunned without ever even straining...her top end is outrageous.
Lots of fun watching her being impressed by Kate doing just normal everyday soprano things, completely unaware that Kate Lott is a freak of nature.
Watched this when it was first published and back for the umptiumpth time for a much needed pick me up. Love your energy, Maggie!

I just watched this reaction and the date shows you reacted to this almost three years ago. So I checked to see what Voctave songs you have reacted to since that time. Voctave has so many wonderful songs, but I''m shocked that with you loving Disney, you haven't watched their Disney Love Songs medley featuring Kirsten Maldonado and Jeremy Michael Lewis. It's another incredibly arranged song with all the incredible signature vocals of Voctave, plus two more incredible acapella singers. A must watch for you, whether or not you make it one of your reaction videos.
My personal favorite Voctave video is “Someone Like You” from “Jekyll & Hyde” featuring Jody McBrayer! Check it out !

Great reaction! First reactor I've seen that realized that fast that Chrystal is truly a soprano. She just has a rich enough low range that she sings the lowest alto part in the group.

EJ Cardona in this group got together with Voiceplay and covered "Go the Distance" from the Disney movie Hercules. It is a really good cover. EJ has an incredible voice and sounds so good with Voiceplay.

Oh dear Maggie you must hear more of Voctave. They are stellar, their arrangements always beautiful, and the delivery of each song or segment of, so suited to the chosen singer/s vocal range, or should that be timbre?

Tiffany, who did Once Upon a Dream is a barbershop singer! She also does her own spiritual music. My old chorus (O-Town Sound) competed with her chorus (Toast of Tampa) in the regional. They are a different caliber. International competitors every other year. Tiffany is back row, dead center. A phenomenal performance if you ever wanna watch them. Sweet Adeline’s is a hard organization when it comes to competition rules.
Aside from being Disney performers, on a more musical level, ever member of Voctave had absolute control over their vibrato. The music is written for them, and takes complete advantage of each of their individual strengths. Their ability to use a pregnant pause to let the over and under tones carry… Is masterful.
And also, I would recommend reacting to their “Prince of Egypt Medley!”
Kate is soprano goals. She is a coloratura soprano. You HAVE to watch their cover of Mary Did You Know featuring the original lyricist Mark Lowry.

What their bio didn’t mention is that all of the Voctave singers were/are a part of the Voices of Liberty singing this beautiful blend live, acapella and without mics every day at EPCOT. Kate Lott (1st Sop) is truly astounding as are the rest of them. EJ (1st Tenor) shines in O, Come All Ye Faithful. You’ll find out! They are all some of the best singers in the country and with Jamey’s arrangements, you can’t miss!
"Over the Rainbow" is the pinnacle for me, I can't listen to it without getting chills.
First off, you are a beautiful young woman. These folks are what is generally known as 'professionals'....I expect nothing less.
The best Voctave performance featuring an artist is Voctave featuring Jody McBrayer Someone Like You (Jeckyll and Hyde)
Lovely. A well-trained high talent group for sure. Also, I noticed a choir-music director "conducting," which we do not often see in acapella groups on TH-cam. The soprano certainly hit C6 and F6 without any problems at all. Operatic training for sure maybe with more than one of them. 👍🎵🎶❤️

The guy doing the directing is Tony De Rosa, who is a musical director at Disney and is also a BIG NAME in the barbershop world. He has won multiple gold medals with different quartets, and is/has been the director of several medal-winning men's and women's barbershop choruses. Ashley (the alto who did the Moana song) is also a member of a gold-medalist Sweet Adelines quartet. Voices of Liberty is an acapella group that sings live at Epcot, and individual members often sing elsewhere in the parks as well. When Voices of Liberty sings, they generally do so without microphones. So what they sing is what you hear - no electronic help at all. So they have to sing on pitch, on time, and in balance. And they do so very, VERY, well.

Maggie you’re the only one who I’ve seen who caught that Chrystal (the last solo) is a soprano with nice low!! She’s often viewed as a ‘secret soprano’ of the group and has a modal (belt/mix) range extending almost to the high C... plus range down to low C. It’s kinda freaky hahaha.
Ashley (who sang Reflection here) usually alternates between soprano and alto while Sarah (who sang Part of Your World) and Chrystal sing alto. As far as I know Ashley is classically-trained as a soprano too but might be wrong. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I am not sure what parts are being sung by new members but I’m gonna assume the new tenor just replaced Tony’s part and the new bass (who is actually a natural baritone) sings JC’s part. I did notice Drew (the new tenor) also sing first tenor line in some tracks from their new album.
It is important to say that those parts are not necessarily a reflection of their voice types. All of the women in Voctave are natural sopranos and if you ask them they’d tell you so as well. Even Chrystal who in fact has the highest belt and mixed voice range in the whole group. Both Kate and Ashley were classically trained as sopranos and it is particularly notable in Ashley’s voice. Kate sure is a high singing head voice soprano but she doesn’t really sing like an opera singer. Ashley and Tiffany have more operatic shades to their voices.
Kurt who sings baritone and alternates between the tenor and bass part sometimes, I’m pretty sure is a natural tenor who has developed a low extension. If you check out his cover of Crying, it will be very audible.

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie! At the start of the 'little mermaid' song when you started singing along and you hit that note on "I want more"... There were some serious undertones/overtones from YOUR harmony that just knocked me out!!! Yes, you really need to sing with an A Capella group some time! Whether a group like Voctave or even Home Free, I think the blend would be amazing!!!! Please try to do something like that and when you do, please, please, PLEASE, put it online!

HI Maggie, I was certain you would like Voctave. I did not recommend them as ever other commentator recommend a song that they like and it becomes ridiculous to suggest one. The arranging is done by the member Jeremy and I believe he runs the group from where he teaches, and that is Rollins College in the Orlando area. I don't know, if you have heard Yma Sumac (1922-2008), a peruvian soprano Sfogato of 5 and a half octaves (Mi2 - Sol7). She not only imitated the sounds of the forest and animals, but also could sing any musical rhythm. In 1989 she sang for Disney "I wonder" from the film "Sleeping beauty". You should listen "Tumpa", "Chuncho", "Taita Inti" and the armonization with a flute. This woman is out of this world!. She has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and in 1956 she won award for greatest vocal range. Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a classically trained singer who sang acapella back in the day ( Manhattan transfer, singers unlimited, take 6 era) - I just love watching when people that know what they are hearing listening to Voctave for the first time. They are just unparalleled. Ever.

Voices of Liberty is the professional singing group that performs at Epcot Center, Disney World. Many of the singers are drawn from that.
