Oh, oh my, I have been a Mark fan for a long time, but yea, this shook me! Maggie, have you heard the version with GVB (and Phelps)?
Voctave - "O Come All Ye Faithful". EJ Cardona's solo is one of a kind. Please react to Voctave's "Disney Heroes & Villains Medley" as well for solos from all 6 men in the group.
Kate has an amazing solo on O Come Emmanuel, you should do that one
O Come All Ye Faithful is a must see for Voctave.
David Phelps. "O Holy Night". Live version with the Gaithers
This version is a perfect example of how much a singer's personal faith and conviction can impact an audience. Mark believes every word with his whole heart and soul, and that came through with every note.
Mark is here worshipping God
God bless you, I love you and Jesus loves you even more. Jesus can bring us joy, peace, hope, a fulfilling life, and eternal life. Jesus died and rose to save us from our sins, bringing us back to God who made us. Do you know God and Jesus Christ and how we can live for God with the help of His Holy Spirit?
Mark Lowry has MS and that is why he is sitting. It's amazing how he is able to hold that note for so long. I just had a chance to see Voctave a month ago. I hope to see them again in a few weeks in Orlando.
Kate Lott's control is UNREAL. To hit that note at the end without belting and overpowering and keeping the taper is just... is she even human?!
Nobody sings this song like Mark, he wrote it as a conversation with Mary. David Phelps "O Holy Night" green sweater version is a great song to react to, Mark is right behind him in the performance.
Mark Lowy SANG this with MS. That makes it even more incredible to witness him exert such muscle control over his body to get the song out.
This is my top version of this song. PTX's version is just a skosh under this (the two are very close). Katie Lott's soaring soprano is so light and delicate and quiet it is hard to believe she can do it without blasting. Her control is just incredible. All of them are, but hers really stands out because she could make herself stand out over everyone else if she wanted to. And can you believe how long Mark held that note in the middle there?!??!?!?!!?
Voctave never disappoints. And this version with Mark is so special!
Hi, Maggie! Since you commented on the arrangement, I just wanted to remind you that EVERY Voctave piece is arranged by the group's founder, Jamey Ray, who is also the tenor standing to the far left in this video. HE is BRILLIANT -- and knows how to showcase the brilliance in each of his singers.
I have never heard anything Jamey has arranged that wasn’t the very best arrangement of that song. Incredible talent.
I watched an interview Mark Lowrey did with Jaimie about filming this song. Mark praised these singers so highly! And Jaimie, too! I love Mark's hymn sing alongs he has on his TH-cam channel at least once a week! Sometimes more often! He's such a sweet guy, and so darned funny! 😅
There's a chap in there, third from the right, goatee, spiky hair and his name is Tony de Rosa. I sang with him once.
One of the great Barbershop baritones of the ages and a 3 time Barbershop International Quartet Champion.
Arguably the greatest moment of my life.
Im so glad you finally reacted to this. Mark is an incredibly talented vocalist and also a very funny comedian. I saw the Gaither Vocal band years ago in Charlotte NC. Mark, Guy, and David Phelps actually made it snow. The power that blasted "The Praises of the Lamb" actually shook the rafters and caused dust to rain down on the audience.
I guess you were all choked up from the love (and dust)? 😊
@@Gems-of-Hope-Rocks it was a rather amazing night. The dust snow was unexpected but remarkable and amusing at the same time. I actually expected Mark to make some wise crack about it, but he didnt, which made the moment even more memorable.
You must listen to Mark Lowry's bandmate David Phelps sing O Holy Night (Live). It is really something special. Mary, Did You Know has been done by so many groups and it just gets me every time.
Yes, couldn't agree more. Other amazing singers have sung O Holy Night but his version is simply outstanding. Especially when those standing behind him that many have thought simply a really good choir are in fact themselves all well known recording artists as well. And they all really believe what they are singing.
Agreed x 1,000,000! Please react to the live version of David Phelps singing O Holy Night!
It’s difficult to comment on perfection. This is so beautiful!
I honestly have loved everything Voctave has produced. And Mark is so great! ☺
At the end of the climax of the song after the series of "Mary did you" lines, you can hear Kate hit a G6! 5:26
At the end of this video there were 2 videos that popped up. The video on the left looks like O Holy Night which is sung by Tiffany Coburn of Voctave. Tiffany is very impressive, especially toward the end of the song.
I think there were a couple of times that you were about to burst into tears. There is a version that Mark Does live with the Gaither Vocal Band. SO good.
Home Free's version of this great song was my favorite version until I heard Voctive with Mark Lowery. Both bring tears of emotion into my eyes.
Gobsmacked! And a shout out to the soprano who could so easily have chucked out a few more decibels and didn't. As it was she enhanced the overall effect, but could so easily have overwhelmed it.
Maggie, you mentioned David Phelps when reading the info on Mark, please react to him as he is perhaps one of the greatest tenors in the world.
His rendition of O Holy Night especially!
@@Loulizabeth And the version I have seen most frequently was LIVE!
Great introduction to Mark Lowry. He is incredible, and whoever had the thought to join himwith Voctave deserves a huge hug and pat on the back.
Stunning harmonies. And how lucky to perform the song with the songwriter Thank you for this. 😇
Mark wrote this song… in 1991…his heart and emotion is so melded into this song
This is absolutely stunning. I've heard PTX and HF's version and they are beautiful, but this is in a whole new category. It is gorgeous, angelic, and powerful all at once. And having Mark sing the lead brings so much more to the song. I know he needs the stool because he has MS and much of one leg is metallic after a motorcycle accident. The fact that with those to deal with, he can sing so freely and hold his notes for so long. WOW!
I always love listening how the songwriter phrases certain songs to see how they are different than other people performing the same song.
HAHAHAHAHA...I think this is the first real time I have seen Maggie speechless!
The love, passion, and pure joy on Mark's face combined with a heavenly and transcendent musical experience... you have no choice but to feel ALL the feels.
Never heard of Voctave but I can also say that I have heard of Mark and his talents. I had his mother as a prof back in the day (1996) and did not relish the experience. But it is amazing to see what little gems come from rocky paths. Wish we could all be so blessed with these talents as Mark has.
I think I've listened to this song and every reaction I can find a million times and it never gets old, it's just that good.
When God is involved all things work for the good. I never thought I would react to you again but when I seen Mary did you know with Mark Lowry I had to give it a chance. I'm so glad I did, you respected the viewer and your reaction was perfect. Plus you added you're qualified opinions to it. It was perfect thank you! Until next time stay well, and popping for fresh
Maggie, your reactions are the best. I am not sure you have gotten into the David Phelps track (he was in Gaither Vocal Band with Mark), but you should. Start out with either his O Holy Night or most recently, his rendition of I Have Nothing or even Unchained Melody. Many are commenting that he is the best male vocal singer out there right now....and I agree! Take care and looking for more Voctave reactions, try O Come All Ye Faithful or if you are willing to do studio recordings, please, please react to Voctave's Prince of Egypt - most likely their best and most difficult and intricate medley EVER!
Songs are always special with the writer singing.
Beautiful reaction, I admire you for not feeling that you need to take the song apart just to fill airtime (sadly, there are some that do). Every time I have heard Mark sing this, I feel that I have just witnessed something spectacular. many people have cover the song and some were really good, but there is something special about hearing it with the passion of the writer.
Lord do not underestimate Mark Lowry when he decides to let loose....
I had to learn this back in H.S. for chorus it was one of my favorite songs to sing.
"Mary, Did You Know", with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984. Originally Mark used the lyrics on Christmas cards. Later on he requested, from several friends if someone could put music to his lyrics. The music was written by Buddy Greene in 1991. Mark recoded this with 'Voctave' while sitting which doesn't allow full lung capacity to be achieved. That was necessary due to his being tested for multiple sclerosis which limits his walking to short distances and has left him deaf in one ear.. This was an incredible test of his singing ability and well worth viewing, and reacting to! Mark was fortunate that his tests came back negative.
Mark starting this by thinking of what he would like to say to Mary if he could. Voctave came to FSU last January for one night, so a friend and I went and were thrilled at how wonderful they are.
Chills. Major chills.
I LOVE this version of his song. I looked up who did the arrangement and found that the man on the far left (Jamie Ray) did the arrangement. Not only does he sing in the group, he is the founder of the group in 2015, he is a teacher, producer and composer. I have listened to dozens of other covers including other recordings done by Mark Lowery himself, and this version is by far the best! And talk about breath control! You can find vids of him talking about the story of how he came to write this. Every time I listen to this recording, I i have to hold back tears, and after the GP, I have goosebumps..
Voctave o come all ye faithful.
I have been waiting for YEARS to hear an opera singer hear Mark Lowry. I mean, obviously he knows hundreds of world-class singers (hence Bill Gaither personally picks who comes aboard), plus Mark started his career singing bass. I love him. His comedy/skit in Hollywood is Twenty Stories tall. Perfect.
I don't know if you know this, which makes this even more special, he had cancer of the throat a few years before this was made. He was told he wouldn't be able to sing again after his surgery... and yet there he is singing like it never happened. So amazing!!
Love this song 🎵 ❤️ Thank you for Sharing God bless ❤
Yessss more Voctave Reactions ❤. I love it
Also agree you should watch his best of comedy on TH-cam…he’s hysterical.
Kate Lott goes higher than just a E#6, she goes up to a G6 here in the climax, the part where they sing "the praises of the name".
Also, Kate is trained in Bel canto and is not using flageolet (whistle register), but is actually using a very light head voice. It's not nearly as dark or heavy of a head voice that you might be accustomed to due to being a classical singer, but it's still head voice.
Your outfit and penguin(?) is so cute. Thanks for this reaction video and have a Merry, safe and healthy Christmas!
Love it when your mind explodes!
That’s Kate Lott that’s going way up in the rafters. She’s a classically trained coloratura and her highest note is a G6.
Look forward to the day when you record something with them :)
Me too! Thanks! 🤗💟
Mark Lowry and Buddy Green wrote the song. That is why he can sing with such feeling.
Mark Lowrey wrote the lyrics to this amazing song!
Just WOW shooketh
Best reaction I think I ever saw you do...the look on your face was priceless... Like a deer in headlights... You should check out Mark's band member David Phelps singing "Oh Holy Night" during a Gather Christmas concert in 1992...David is wearing a green pullover ...that way youll know you have the right concert...You're going to love David...He is classically trained and has been called one of the best tenors in the world...Thanks, and keep being awesome.....
I was not surprised by the fact that Mark wrote the song as I've known that since he first released it back in the 80's. However, I was surprised with how long he held that note. (praises of the lamb about 5 minutes in).
I love how she was getting mesmerized by Kate's Eb6 at the end completely forgetting the G6 near the middle of the song hehe. She is unreal. So is everyone else. Crazy notes here and there. Tiffany is at a D6 under Kate's G6, EJ belts a C5 before the high note and the altos go real high for this one. Ashley at C6, Sarah at G5, wooof. Mark is on another level. Truly the best rendition of this song
Lovely reaction. You have a lovely heart. Is there a more under appreciated musician than Jamey Ray? Don’t miss out on reacting to their version of “Where are you Christmas?”
Hearing the chirping of crickets outside the window here.
I am so glad that you've finally listened to Voctave!!! This song is very special!!!
This is the first version where it sounds like the singer is really asking Mary questions. Many of the others are beautiful but are "performance" pieces.
Mark said he got the idea for the song by wondering what he would ask Mary if they were sitting in the kitchen having coffee.
And Voctave, of course, sets the tone for the whole song. Magnificent!
I would recommend Voctave - O Come All Ye Faithful for a Christmas favorite!
Maggie got 'broke' again. Love it
You really need to check out their newest video from their new album “Goodnight my someone”
Given your appreciation of Voctave, I recommend O Come All Ye Faithful by Voctave featuring tenor E J Cardoza. Absolutely blows me away.
Thanks for your suggestion. 🤗
Voctave is always spectacular. Combined with the heartfelt (if less than spectacular) singing of the song's author, the result is really fine. 😇
What do you mean "less than spectacular"? Can you hold a note for that many bars? Good grief!
@@EvieBear236 And while sitting down, no less!
That was, simply awesome !!!!!
Im a bit late to the party but I got to say that you did something I have yet to see other CC's do. Aside from having to stop because of the YT rules and copyright laws. You simply felt how epic this particular version is. Given its the writer of the song plus voctave (who are simply incredible). I like the break downs and teachable moments but sometimes - some songs simply surpass that. I feel you picked up on that fairly early (even before you knew Mark wrote the song). I feel you somehow knew this was something special and simply let it play (with minoe stops for yt reasons). So I want to say thank you for simply understanding how special this is/was and just let it play. Keep up the good work looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Just a Big Merry Christmas Maggie for reacting to Mary Did You Know with such feeling.
Hi! this is one of my favorite christmas song, the arrangement and interpretation is very touching. There is a cover of Pentatonix, also remarkable but I think I prefer the style of this one, wich is more full, I mean, is a mini choir with 11 members!, vs PTX with only 4 or 5 voices. They have done disney covers, but definitely the original composition "Mary did you know" is deeply inspired, giving the arranger a top quality material to work.
Beautiful
I remember the church I was in when I first heard this. ❤
Best version ever.
Hi new subscriber in the house!,Thanks for your Great reaction,
Kindly react to a Filipino Sisters 4th Impact sings "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (So Hyang Version) Thank you very much.
Welcome to my channel. Hope to see you tonight?
This is so beautiful.
Yeah, Mark Lowry is one of the best people that sings this that I've ever heard. There's always that one person that can take an original and make it theirs or better, but so far, I don't think I've heard anyone take this away from Mark. And that was neat finding out that he was the co-author of it, that tidbit I didn't know. Absolutely amazing! LOVED the crescendo right before the break/pause/second half was phenomenal, and Mark held his note for such a long time.
Yes Mark actually wrote the lyrics and he wrote them as if he was sitting down with Mary and having a cup of coffee with her. Mark's good friend Buddy Greene put the lyrics to music.
David Phelps is another member in the same group as Mark Lowry, listen to O Holy Night by David Phelps with Gaither Vocal Band
Please react to Voctaves O Holy night featuring the other soprano Tiffany Colburn. You will be amazed.
This song is so amazing that other a capella groups have redone this like Home Free and PTX please check out their take of this amazing song.
He said in an interview once that he had more questions for Mary but they didn't rhyme
I'm glad you had the same experience I did when I first listened. It still touches me every time I hear it.
Yes, please listen to them do a Medly of O come O, come Emmanuel/the first Noel and I wonder as I wander and tell me what the highest note Kate hits is. It is extraordinary!!!!!!!!!
Do yourself a favor and listen to Oh Come All Ye Faithful by Voctave before the holidays and The Prince Of Egypt Medley after. It is absolutely astounding!
Also this is a fun fact, Mark had cancer in this throat. It was removed but the doctors told him he could never sing again because of it. Well this was recorded 3 to 4 years later I believe.
The first time I ever heard this song, it was performed by Pentatonix. I thought it was… decent. A nice “modern carol”. Although, of course, PTX were outstanding. Then I heard this version and it just blew me away. Outstanding in every aspect (and, of course, still a capella). Just… wow.
You need to listen to the original. By Gaither Vocal Band when Mark was in the group
Watch 'O' Come All Ye Faithful' by Voctave and Where are you Christmas by Voctave.
That. Lady,s. Name. Is. Kate. Lott. And. She. Is. Classic. Trained
I'd also suggest anything by VOCES8 (English a cappella group of 8 wonderful singers).
Maggie...please react to David Phelps! Can't wait to see your reaction!! You're the greatest!
I love the fact that you were Transfixed to the video, I loved your reaction 💋❤️
Hi Maggie Mark Lowry is amazing and a wonderful singer as others have mentioned please react to David Phelps O Holy Night the one with the 8 million views I know you'll be amazed he's one of the best Tenors in the world.
Mark wrote the lyrics.
If you want to hear some amazing singing, please check out more from the Gaither Vocal Band. That's listed in that Wikipedia post.
How can you listen to this and not believe in a higher power.
Kate Lott?
@@joshuasargent991 The male lead as well.
You should listen to David Phelps version of this song or any song for that matter.
You should react to joy to the world by voctave.
This video is editing so good, i think I need this editor.
Can I contact him
Mark Lowry CO-WROTE THIS SONG!
Don't know how I missed this last year. Well, t do but we will leave it right there. Holy Cheese Muffins. Gut punch supreme.
