Avi Kaplan today! "First Place I Go video premieres this Friday at Noon CST! I’ll be doing a live redirect stream on TH-cam 15 minutes before the premiere, hope to see you there!"
There is no way PTX did not make a deliberate choice with that harmony. Like it or not, they always make changes from the originals when they cover. Kevin DOES have perfect pitch, so if it was an unintentional mistake, he would hear it.
I'm a bit baffled as to why this should be a perfect copy of Celine's version. I love what they're doing and find it really satisfying. I understand this is a cover, but PTX are famed for doing things their way. They take things and make it their own. This is so delightful.
Seriously, they can sing it however they want. It is a COVER , THEIR INTERPRETATION, it does not need to be as originally arranged. They were PERFECT AS ALWAYS.
Maybe that's just my opinion, but I think the harmony PTX does sounds so much better than the original. It creates a really nice dissonance and just adds to the feeling of the song. Also this is not the first time that they made changes to the original and with their talent, success and how detail-oriented their arrangements are, there is very little chance, that this was not a conscious choice.
I think it might actually be a conscious choice to go to the F chord early since Mitch goes to a G note before going down to F (when you expect the F chord). This creates the F/G dissonance and puts Mitch in extra focus rather than just have his note be part of the would be already existing major triad of the E flat. If you listen closely to the end of the "second" F chord they also do slight variations for it to not just be two F chords after each other. I don't know - I like it! (Excuse my very rusty attempted music theory)
I like the change in arrangement too. This isn't supposed to be a karaoke edition of Celine and Andrea's recording. Let PTX shine and go for a 4th Grammy.
Can we please give some well deserved recognition to Matt for somehow sounding like a flippin' church organ with such incredible richness in those bass notes. If I may quote you directly "holy cheese muffins!" 😃😃
As a reactor, and especially a trained musician like yourself, I find it interesting that you’ve noticed a variation in the PTX cover as compared to the original. But when your comments imply they’ve made a mistake, that is something altogether different. Not sure why you think it has to be identical to the original. Shouldn’t they be allowed some artistic freedom in the decisions they make? More often than not their covers improve upon the original IMO.
This wasn't a mistake. Kevin has perfect pitch and he'd have caught it if it were. This was done deliberately to make a distinction from the original to their cover.
I wish I could like this comment 1000 times. Maggie Renée...sweetie. It was intentional. I know you know this, but it's called an arrangement. Don't get so hung up on how you think an arrangement should be rather than what it actually is. It's moving parts, so the chord will not be exact to the original chord. The parts move AROUND and THROUGH the chord. Please don't let your schooling make you rigid.
It's called an arrangement, they don't all have to be the same. Each artist has the right to sing it the way they want to. Are you the ultimate expert?
This has nothing to do with perfect pitch, it was simply a stylistic choice that resolves at the right place. Also, there is no way of knowing who, in this group or any, actually have perfect pitch whether or not Kevin has it. Most singers, even accomplished ones don't have perfect pitch. Relative pitch is all that is needed
@@alainlegoff7806 Thank you! I may not have an official music degree, but as a lifelong amateur musician with music educators for parents, I have picked up a thing or two.
While the trio ABSOLUTELY killed their parts, let's also appreciate the GREAT underneath support from Matt with that powerful bass and the incredible percussion of Kevin.
I think they did a perfect rendition of this cover I actually like it better than the original one and Mitch is voice is the most perfect voice that could anybody could have used on this song it's not being a little really cool with them because you know what I don't think anybody could have done any better
I love how reactors are getting the Mitch slapped look for Scott when he starts singing in Italian and like you, stop to comment but have no words. I think Mitch sounds better than Celine and this is just an incredible version. It is definitely award worthy in my opinion!
Pentatonix never does a cover like anyone else and the changes they make in the arrangements are perfection. They didn't make a mistake just because they may have done it differently than Celine. They did it their way...intentionally.
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new Pentatonix video reaction I recently posted? Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
What I've been saying since I first heard it was this is a vocally-mature PTX. They are now at or near 30 and entering their vocal prime. Their voices are now really settled in and they can do almost anything they want. Scott's opening with the chest voice is something we haven't heard from him and it was epic. Mitch almost reminds me of a great coloratura soprano as he easily tosses off those flourishes. It looks so easy for him, like he isn't even working at it. Kirstie is belting at incredibly high notes. And Matt and Kevin and providing the depth that is needed. I think with the maturity, we are now entering a new phase where we'll get performances like this. They've said this was the hardest arrangement they've ever done. They have more ahead. You know what a mature voice can do that a younger voice can't. So you can imagine where they go from here. I can't wait. Great Reaction Maggie.
Kevis is 33. Scott turned 30 last September. Kirstie and MItch are turning 30 in 2022. Matt is the youngest (28 next February). But totally agree on the maturity of their voices making them even better than they used to.
No, it’s the right harmony. You may not like it, but it’s gorgeous. And I doubt they would have purposefully made a harmonic error. As a fellow opera singer, I’m surprised this was a problem for you. You’re explaining your opinion on the chord, a choice.
Exactly! They made a choice, not a mistake. Especially when unlike Maggie, Kevin does have perfect pitch. I think the pushback I've been reading for this video is her assurance it was a mistake...and the agreement of the music teacher. 🙂
Given that it's PTX, I'm very much doubting that it was a "mistake." Nor does it sound wrong. No, it's not the same but they don't always stay in lockstep with the original version of their covers. It sounds pleasing to my ears, and, while NOT a singer, my hearing is pretty good. That said, I'm impressed with how dedicated you were to working it out to your satisfaction. :D
I'm sure it was a choice, given that Mitch sang it differently at the next crescendo. It didn't hit my ear right though either. It sounded flat to me. But hey, artistic expression. They can do what they want with the song and shape it how they want. What I hate is how it seems the whole comment section is dumping on Maggie (who is still a Juilliard-trained opera singer) over this one chord and ignoring that she is literally gushing over the entire rest of the song.
From the moment that I watched the video from PTX through the long 8 days of waiting (lol) I have been waiting for your reaction in specific to this. Seriously. I remember you discovering PTX with Hallelujah and I have been with you for every step of the journey, and I knew that with your training you would bring a great reaction and an amazingly refined perspective to the piece. May I suggest that the 'wrong chord' you discussed was instead a deliberate choice? I know you're comparing back to the original, but by keeping everything within the same key signature (F) they did not change the musical timbre of the presentation... kinda like each key signature is supposed to have a 'character'... the modulation of the Eb back to F is a far more feminine approach, but in this version the singer is masculine. The dissonance is softened by the fact that the background vocals have an established pattern of harmonization utilizing neighboring tones in that passage, so it is in character with the overall timbre, and it also reinforces musical theory stylistic decisions from the intro where they extended the suspended fourth before resolving down to the F there as well. Without actually building a suspended 4th chord, by avoiding the chord change to the Eb major, they both produced a faux suspended resolution going into the F, they kept with the visual theme of being lost in the woods, and in fact set up the next phrase in the lyrics which is literally, "When we lose our way". When viewed from this perspective, that chord isn't so much 'wrong' as an intentional artistic embellishment upon the original, a way of reworking the arrangement to own their version, and put distance between the cover and the original. At least... from my POV. Feel free to disagree... music theory is subjective at the end of the day. ;) (And now I'm going to go run away from all the other musicians who are bound to jump on that last statement with both feet!)
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you TODAY in about 30 minutes on Twitch www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic for fun LIVE Reactions and on www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee to help support my channel, if you are interested. Thank you and Happy Holidays! 🤗💖
Earlier this year Scott said something to the effect that they were going to take it up a level. With this new album, I now see what he was talking about.
If it piqued her interest, then yes it does matter. She's a musician. The best at their profession tinker over things like that to better understand and utilize them. Whether her opinion to you is right or wrong doesn't matter. She took the time to study it, simulate it, and learn from it.
@@jspres86 I fail to see anything 'learned' from deciding an intentional alteration to a cover was a 'mistake' (spending almost half the video on it), & sticking with that determination regardless of all evidence to the contrary, not to mention not responding to anyone who disagreed with her, even those who went out of their way to be respectful, but to each their own, I guess. 🤨

At this point, I don't think we even need to hit play to know it's amazing with anything PTX does. That said, this is definitely their best work in their career so far.
I LOVE when the MaggieBot buffer overloads and requires a reboot. It's an amazing statement of how good Pentatonix really is. I was told once that the highest compliment a performer can get is a moment of stunned silence before the applause. You had that throughout.
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new Pentatonix video reaction I recently posted? Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
It was intentional love. This isn’t the first time they have done this btw. They do it to make it their own, and match what feel they are trying to convey. Instead of the chords resolving, it’s Mitch himself that resolves it. This gives a completely different feel from what Madam Celine portrayed at that point in the original. 👍🏽
Thank you. I was thinking didn’t he just resolve it? No way these people, with so much music theory behind them including Ben Bram didn’t do this intentionally.
@@PtxXtp You are 100% correct. When it comes to music, imitating EXACTLY what the original performer does makes it exactly what it sounds like. An imitation.. not a cover. There’s nothing wrong with doing that, if that was the intention. In fact, some people do that and it ends up sounding fantastic. With that said, it’s not an interpretation, it’s not a cover, and it’s certainly not original. It is an imitation. Pentatonix does not do imitation. Honestly, it’s very hard to say that they do covers either. We all joke about the saying: “Pentatonix doesn’t do covers, they do upgrades.” Ironically, that really is as close to the truth as possible. Everything they do is intentional, and everything they do has meaning. You are correct with what you said about their musical instinct, education, creativity, and secret weapon Ben Bram. As an example, listen to the portion of this song Maggie commented on, both PTX & Celine Dion’s version. The lyrics being: “And help us to be wise, in times when we don’t know.“ One could say that part song by Celine Dion has a uplifting, triumphant, warm feel. A secure and confident feel, as if assured that prayer will be answered. All United, both the background chords and Celine resolve together. Now listen to PTX. The background chords go immediately to resolution, but Mitch does not. Instead he ALONE resolves it. This gives the feel of hesitancy, uncertainty… but still hopeful. It is a very subtle thing, but it really does make a big difference. Especially when paired along the music video. Each member walking alone in a white forest of trees and snow, Until they come together and the flow of music and emotion swell. This group….. They really are the best at what they do.
I agree that, if we’re holding PTX to the chord progression used by others who’ve recorded this song - then yes, they didn’t follow the expected form. But - I think it was a choice. It lends for a colder ambiance - and truth be told, our dear Kevin LOVES bending rules this way. If there’s dissonance to be had, he’s having it.
I am continually impressed with how much PTX has grown and matured in 10 years. Your reaction proved their point that they love mixing it up. Because They CAN!!!
Thank you for your lovely comment. Did you like the new reaction video I just posted? Hope to see you TONIGHT on my LIVE stream www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic?
Oh my goodness, You spent over 10 minutes trying to convince us that PTX made a mistake and then explaining to us and even singing it how it’s supposed to be!! When PTX never sings a cover exactly how others sing it. They always make little tweaks and changes that make it their own… over 2 million views and you told us it didn’t sound right because they went too early Wow!! I’m happy to see that in the end you loved it as we all do! In the end sounded like Kevin, Gorgeously done
I also believe they deliberately deviated from the original E-flat - F resolution, to make it sound less „jazzy“. Apart from that, they have an Fsus2 to F resolution, with Mitch singing the G, which also gives a dissonance, but not one as strong as the borrowed E-flat major course (coming from the Mixolydian mode). They simply saved the more „radical“ chords and harmonies for the build up later (at around 3:00) where they embark on more „adventurous“ harmonies!
That note of Mitch's was not a mistake but rather a distinct choice to differentiate from the original and make it THEIR own. I love, Love ,LOVE Scott's deeper register in this song. So rich and warm. YES I know, Speechless!!! And here we go AGAIN ! on the rollercoaster ride of PTX performance. Kirsties belting on "beeeeee" is just out of this world and so powerful. And can we just say Matt & Kevin, OMG laying down ALL the foundation work for them to build on is just, JUST so EPIC !!!! After that song you just NEED to sit back and rest and catch your breath and let things settle in your brain and heart. THAT is typical PTX writing. They know how to build and regress until you are about to explode and then bring you in for the ultimate landing. This also gets your emotions to soar up into the clouds where there is no air to breath. They ARE the MASTERS of this technique.
You are wrong dear. Ptx would not make a mistake like that. It was intentional for sure. It's called "arranging". That's the way they chose to arrange this song. They are perfectionists & consummate professionals.
Oh fer cripes sake, they chose an F7sus to F resolution instead of an Eb to F, which btw, with Mitch's G the chord ended up being an Eb/F anyway. It was fun watching you freak tho. Butt seriously folks, thanks for the richly detailed reaction/analysis/gushfest.
I get having a different opinion on what you would’ve wanted personally of course but saying they made a mistake is absolutely bonkers to me, it was definitely purposeful and not supposed to be a carbon copy of the original haha but besides that love the reactions and analysis
There have been a lot of comments from Italians that Scott's Italian dialect is near perfect, but is from a different part of Italy than Bocelli is from. That's because Scott's voice coach is from a different part of Italy than where Bocelli is from. Specifically, they are saying that Scott rolls his Rs flawlessly. Bocelli doesn't because the part of Italy he is from doesn't roll their Rs the same way.
Great reaction Maggie! I agree that this is the best video PTX has Ever done. If it doesn’t win a Grammy they should do away with the Grammys. Mitch was incredible in this but it was when Scott came in that my jaw hit the floor. That’s the richest sound I’ve ever heard from his lower register and you reacted just like I did the first time I heard it. Just a wonderful video. I also liked the MaggieBot needing a reboot, haha!
every time I take my mom somewhere, once we get in the car she's like "can you play that prayer song again" " it's just so wonderful" LOL. It's probably one of if not my favorite work of PTX and maybe my new favorite version of the song. I've been waiting for your reaction to this! I knew it would be great!
To me the dissonance in the "Times We Don't Know" so perfectly contrasts the resolved harmony of "leading to eh tend of the verse, fits thematically. It creates in me a Layperson a beautifully orchestrated tension with a delayed resolution. So, even though it may not be right, the emotion it invokes just works for me. I realize I really don't know crap about music, but I do have a background in theatre and oratory so i do appreciate the way music uses cord structure to lead the audience's emotional reactions. Just saying, It worked for me.
Ditto y’all… if it WAS a mistake…PTX DID UPGRADE BEAUTIFULLY. Love PTX Rendition better than original. (Yes, with Kevin’s perfect pitch he’d correct errors) 🌺PTX emotes a Beautifully & Heartfelt Upgrade. 🌺PTX, simply Amazing Perfection we all know and love🌺❣️
I have been waiting for your reaction to this!!!! So glad that it didn’t get blocked. These 5 amazingly talented singers are growing up and with that comes a maturity that can only be reached with time and doing the hard work. It shows in this spectacular performance!! So glad you gave them the credit they deserved for all the extra time they put into this one! ❤️🔥🙌🏻❤️🔥 Side note… 99.999% sure that last high note was Mitch! 💯

PTX are doing their version. No one stated it is or should be an exact copy, (which they never do anyway). As they are perfectionists I'm sure they are singing it just as they want to. Good spot though.
Since when did Pentatonix sing a song the exact same as the original, the reason people like Pentatonix is because they change it up and don't do covers the exact way, the original was done, because if they did, they might as well be a karaoke group.

You didn't just get Mitch slapped, you have gotten PTX slapped!! They are that great upgrading a beautiful version! Not only that, you're reactions are priceless!! I lost count on how many "Holy Cheese muffins" came from you! lol Such a great reaction... Love ya!
are you sure? I really thought it was Kevin... it is in the quality of the sound. Mitch always sounds like Mitch. And when Kevin is singing (which he is at the end) he blends so well unless he is deliberately featured.
I thought the same thing, and it took me a few listens to wrap my mind around it. I think it was a creative choice, to differentiate it from three "usual" version.
Trust me. They make NO mistakes. If they sing it, they MEANT to sing it. And it was obviously Mitch who hit those last high notes. I do love watching you react to them and becoming a Pentaholic. Like the rest of us!
I have to agree that there was no mistake in how they handled that chord, it was their choice. And finishing it off with the Aeolian Cadence...perfecto.
I usually work day shift, but I've been working overnights this last week. I put off going to sleep when I got the notification for this video. Epic song done by an epic group, reacted to by an epic reactor! Thank you so much! 🙏

@@stevek5332 they've double tracked for background, which you can hear during Kirstie's harmony parts with Mitch, and I'm pretty sure Mitch keeps going up, based on his having done notes like it before
I believe that Kevin can also cover that range since he's not beat boxing in this portion. I just can't tell by vocal tone alone ... other than the ending resolved the entire song. Perfecto!
I felt the same way when Scott started to sing! It was the least "Pop-y" I have ever heard his voice! It was so rich and so full! It was gorgeous!!! You should hear it live. I felt like I almost died and went to heaven, it was so beautiful.

You are not the only reactor that was rendered speechless after listening to this. Every reactor I’ve listened to has been completely mind blown by this arrangement.
Ever since I first heard this rendition of "The Prayer" I've said that it's Grammy-worthy. And now _Evergreen,_ the album on which it was released, has indeed been nominated for a Grammy. I'll be watching the Grammy's award ceremony on February 5 for the first time ever; I don't normally pay attention to awards ceremonies. But *this* time it would be Matt's first Grammy, and I really want Matt to have his very own Grammy. 🤞

That chord you were obsessing over was actually a Bb major 2 chord, THEN they went to the F (a 4 to 1 resolution). It works just fine, and I’m sure it was intentional so as to create a more dramatic transition when they used the “Eb” in verse 2 (which was actually a C minor 7 chord, not an Eb). Just thought I’d clarify.
No way the 5 of them plus Ben Bram wouldn’t have noticed a mistake and still put it out there. They are a group of perfectionists. I’ve performed this song a few times before and what I hear sounds absolutely fine to my ear. Not sure why the chord is bothering you so much. I feel with Ptx sometimes people are looking to find flaws in them because they are so perfect and on such a higher level than the other a cappella groups but in this one I can say there really was no mistake.
Flaws makes you better especially if someone notices it and reacts to it. This is a reaction video, expect a honest reaction not a "puppy" who is following their owners and praise them. Nobody's perfect, even me or Maggie. We have the freedom to express and react. It's up to you if you will react "FAKEly". Maggie is just being honest of her reaction.
@@akosikeeno wow harsh response to what I said. Especially when what she was trying to point out wasn't even a flaw in their music. Ben Bram and Kevin are music geniuses so they wouldn't have made that mistake and still released the song. Funny how almost every reply on her comment section is agreeing with what I said.
This is by far my favorite song sung by PTX and my favorite reaction of yours Maggie. This song touch my soul. Thanks for reacting and thank you John for sponsoring.
They never make a mistake, they are known perfectionists. And they are also known for making their arrangements different to the original. What would be the point in being exactly the same? Part of what I love about them is that they make things their own and put their twists on their covers. I'm not sure why you focused so much on needing them to sound exactly the same but thank you for reacting to this perfect and breathtaking version, I'm glad you loved it overall 😊
I've watched your reactions to Kevin's solo work, and you can see how deep his knowledge of music and sound are... Then when you realize that all five have that same level of knowledge, talent, and drive - there is no end to the surprises that they can create. I love watching you lose your mind. ;-)

That's Mitch on the high note at the end, camera on him as he 'adjusts' to that note..not falsetto, as earlier, but his powerful upper-register head voice, whilst I recognize Kirsten's mid-range tone, chest voice. Incredible, beautiful indeed, and gratzi for the enjoyable reaction!!
This could be Pentatonix 4th Grammy. This is a masterpiece. That was Kirstie singing the high note at the end since Mitch held the same note through the finale. I agree 50 awards easy. I don't know if you knew Kirstie was scheduled to star in the play "Children of Eden" but bowed out because other commitments. This play is heading to Broadway.

Overall? Maggie melted in her chair. And screamed, sang, cheered, and was thrilled beyond compare. By far one of her best reviews, and one of PTX's greatest videos of all time. Great thanks to all for sharing your talents to bring us such greatness!
Kevin! Kevin was singing at the end. And if anyone is going up there and you can't figure out who. it's most likely Kevin. it's in the tone. Mitch always sounds like Mitch. and same with Scott and Kirsty. Kevin sounds like pure music when he blends
That note at the end sounds like Kevin. At the end of Amazing Grace, you can hear that in a lower pitch, but the the vocal tone is the same. That combined with Mitch's .... wow
This is what I came to say as well! The 2nd time I ever listened I sat & really had to listen because I swore Kev was in there! He does have perfect pitch & we've seen in Imagine, Amazing Grace, Down, & Mary Did You Know just how high his falsetto goes....IN perfect pitch. Glad it wasn't just me! Get it KO! Btw love this rendition it's my favorite version, & great reaction!
I Agree, Mitch always sounds like Mitch to me. And in a blend if you can't pick out exactly who it's often Kevin. He sounds like pure music when everyone else has a distinct flavor that says "oh that's Kirstie" and he can blend his sound so well.
You leave them alone. They chose the cord you're harping on that way and planned the entire song. We like it. They do NOT repeat the original, the create their own new version!
8:46 I think I've mentioned this before in a reaction video comments area, but Scott is a natural baritone, can pitch down to a bass (but not basso profundo), and can pitch up to alto-tenor ranges. An example of him doing bass is Hallelujah when Avi is singing his parts. He speaks in baritone, but because his chest-mix, mix, and head voice are all so damned clear, he usually does the tenor range stuff. This is him in full, complete, utter chest voice, and your reaction shows that you knew that instantly because of how rich and resonant it was :D
My wife’s favorite group was ptx. This song was released the day before she passed from cancer. And I found it by accident. We closed her service with this song. 😭😭
Greatest reaction EVER!!! Loved it!. These people....these people...What??!! One of the best things I've heard all year, no, THE BEST....Thanks Maggie...that was just Other worldly...5 voices....🙏🏻
i now know why i do not like classical trained singers.....they forget that music is not all about the perfect pitch or chord but the emotions the singer triggers
From what I've seen they all sing Nessum Dorma the same so I'm guessing it's sacrilege to change something. That being said, I like that they changed it and if PTX just did karaoke covers for songs they wouldn't be PTX.

No- it’s absolutely perfect harmony. It’s PTX. They changed it up on purpose ,putting their own spin on it.
There is no way PTX did not make a deliberate choice with that harmony. Like it or not, they always make changes from the originals when they cover. Kevin DOES have perfect pitch, so if it was an unintentional mistake, he would hear it.
Agreed!!!
You are correct!!
Agreed
They spent a lot of time with this cover. They knew exactly what they were doing.
Agreed It wasn't a mistake it was a choice that they made and to be honest I like it better then the original..
I'm a bit baffled as to why this should be a perfect copy of Celine's version. I love what they're doing and find it really satisfying. I understand this is a cover, but PTX are famed for doing things their way. They take things and make it their own. This is so delightful.

Ditto .... If its not mathematically correct its wrong? Not so! PTX does it best.
Impressed me! Thanks for you input.
I like the change in arrangement too. This isn't supposed to be a karaoke edition of Celine and Andrea's recording. Let PTX shine and go for a 4th Grammy.
@@rugr82day Yes!!!
That is what I heard and thought of the tension/resolution as well.
Yes true to that, either PTX goes to F9 or F major chord with singing note G as tension note then later resolute to F.
PTX is not the ones who block the videos. It's the record label. PTX actually fights with the label on blocking. They want people to react.
Can we please give some well deserved recognition to Matt for somehow sounding like a flippin' church organ with such incredible richness in those bass notes. If I may quote you directly "holy cheese muffins!" 😃😃

But when your comments imply they’ve made a mistake, that is something altogether different. Not sure why you think it has to be identical to the original. Shouldn’t they be allowed some artistic freedom in the decisions they make? More often than not their covers improve upon the original IMO.

This is one the basic jobs of the cover artist - don’t just sing the original note for note, but put your own spin on it.
PREACH 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I agree with you
I’m honestly second-hand embarrassed for her. That’s…. just… musical ignorance.
@@AllisonMetcalfPalumbo Your answer is so right
@@alainlegoff7806 Thank you!
Hear hear 👏👏
Totally agree....Matts bass was the vital support needed with this song.....And Kevins beats were amazing.....
I think they did a perfect rendition of this cover I actually like it better than the original one and Mitch is voice is the most perfect voice that could anybody could have used on this song it's not being a little really cool with them because you know what I don't think anybody could have done any better
The last note was Mitch. A lady from a PTX fan group that I'm a member of actually emailed Ben Bram and asked him, and he replied. lol
I love how reactors are getting the Mitch slapped look for Scott when he starts singing in Italian and like you, stop to comment but have no words. I think Mitch sounds better than Celine and this is just an incredible version. It is definitely award worthy in my opinion!
Why does it have to be her harmony..they are making it their own. This is by far the best version of this song. Grammy worthy.
I don't care. I love it!!!!!!
I think they did it THEIR way. I find no fault in how they sang it which is LIGHTYEARS away from what most of us can do.
19 in sing off 8 years ago. I'm guessing 27/8.
@@bradclifton5248 The Sing-Off was September 2011. Mitch, the youngest, is 29.
@@karylmonaco8174 that long ago. I thought it was a couple years later. Thanks
@@bradclifton5248 I agree. It doesn't seem like it could possibly be that long ago!
👍🏼
Exactly.
Exactly! They made a choice, not a mistake. Especially when unlike Maggie, Kevin does have perfect pitch. I think the pushback I've been reading for this video is her assurance it was a mistake...and the agreement of the music teacher. 🙂
Foolishly embarrassing to call it a “mistake.” WTH?! 🙄🙄🙄🙄
It was ok but the original is better. Dont get me wrong I love these guys but dont get your panties in a knot.

Earlier this year Scott said something to the effect that they were going to take it up a level. With this new album, I now see what he was talking about.
I’ve never seen you get this excited about a performance. My only regret was your obsessing over one chord.
In the end did it matter?
Seriously, you are judging Pentatonix & saying they made an error, seriously? Different, does NOT mean wrong!

I LOVE when the MaggieBot buffer overloads and requires a reboot. It's an amazing statement of how good Pentatonix really is. I was told once that the highest compliment a performer can get is a moment of stunned silence before the applause. You had that throughout.

The chord was intentional. They sang it that way live on AGT.
While the vocals from The Trio is beyond compare, the foundation created by Matt And Kevin is incredible.
Recommend their Amazing Grace.
Omg Amazing Grace is FANTASTIC!!!
The end high note is done by Mitch. If you listen to his notes from "safe" Scott goes straight on his note and Mitch goes up.
Yep. He is mirroring the words...the anxiety of "in times we dont know" and resolving it...

Is that harmony written in stone? I would listen to anything Mitch puts pout over Celine any day.
It will all come clear. They know what they’re doing.
We are so used to receiving a "Mitch-slap", the "Scott-slap" was wonderful
Such a great reaction!!! This arrangement and the vocals deserve a Grammy.
Just wanted to wish you Happy Holidays 🎅🎄🎁 and to thank you for your support of being my channel member and my Patron! It means A LOT to me!! 💖
I guarantee Ben Bram didn't make a mistake in the production.
Kirsties belting on
"beeeeee" is just out of this world and so powerful.
It’s their way and I loved it! No mistake! Get on with it!
You are wrong dear. Ptx would not make a mistake like that. It was intentional for sure. It's called "arranging". That's the way they chose to arrange this song. They are perfectionists & consummate professionals.
It is their version. NOT a COPY. The differences make it their version. (IMO that is)
Oh fer cripes sake, they chose an F7sus to F resolution instead of an Eb to F, which btw, with Mitch's G the chord ended up being an Eb/F anyway. It was fun watching you freak tho. Butt seriously folks, thanks for the richly detailed reaction/analysis/gushfest.

Yep i agree it fell flat exactly where you noticed it. Thanks for the forensics.

Worked for me too! PTX doesn't make mistakes and if they ever do, it would be a beautiful mistake anyway.

@@stevek5332 they've double tracked for background, which you can hear during Kirstie's harmony parts with Mitch, and I'm pretty sure Mitch keeps going up, based on his having done notes like it before

Maggie when the wall of sound hits it absolutely blows your mental circuits. Breathtaking isn't it?
Demash will blow you away. No auto tune used ever.

Kevin! Kevin was singing at the end. And if anyone is going up there and you can't figure out who. it's most likely Kevin. it's in the tone. Mitch always sounds like Mitch. and same with Scott and Kirsty. Kevin sounds like pure music when he blends
It's Scott and Mitch. You can see and hear it in their Evergreen concerts.
Another Grammy?.....I think so....To date this is one of there BEST covers EVER!.....And Kudos to Matt and Kevin too!!
That note at the end sounds like Kevin. At the end of Amazing Grace, you can hear that in a lower pitch, but the the vocal tone is the same. That combined with Mitch's .... wow
I think it’s Kevin added in also
This is what I came to say as well!

Perfect
i now know why i do not like classical trained singers.....they forget that music is not all about the perfect pitch or chord but the emotions the singer triggers
From what I've seen they all sing Nessum Dorma the same so I'm guessing it's sacrilege to change something. That being said, I like that they changed it and if PTX just did karaoke covers for songs they wouldn't be PTX.
Yeah right, that's why vocalists with classical training and there are many, never display emotion and stage presense.
