This movie is special. Back in 1999 we all knew we saw something special.
The sequels were pointless but the original was very profound.
Who knew it would be so accurate amirite?
But we didn't yet realize how deep the rabbit hole went. When you get red pilled in the real world, it's very similar to Neo learning what the matrix actually is. You just might have to hold back your vomit when you learn about people like Jeffrey Epstein and how they make their billions, to say nothing of their adrenochrome farms.

It’s easy to forget how beautifully crafted this movie is.
Really? I find it easy to remember from all the relevant philosophy and perspective on reality, it's meaning is palpable.
When Neo is escaping from the Agents, he calls Tank and calls him Mr. Wizard. And according to a Wikipedia article: A software wizard or setup assistant is a user interface type that presents a user with a sequence of dialog boxes that lead the user through a series of well-defined steps. Tasks that are complex, infrequently performed, or unfamiliar may be easier to perform using a wizard.
Mr. Wizard was also a persona on public TV for kids. If Thomas Anderson was in his mid 20s in 1999, he very likely would have seen Mr Wizard on TV as a child.
That's when you know a movie is great. When you keep discovering details about it and changing your perception of it decade after decade
For some. For others, it just helped solidify their thinking.
That, or you just proved you have way too much time on your hands. Something most if us have right now.
And yes, I can admit that I rewatch movies I like, to catch those details, I missed before.

It was '99, older brother told mom and dad he was taking me to see The Prince of Egypt by Disney, got to the theatre and said "f*#% that we're watching The Matrix."
That day, my brother not only achieved the highly coveted title of "Ultimate Older Brother", but it was also the beginning of me running across walls with my father's trench coat, that which he was never able to find once again...

When Neo pulls out the program from his "Simulacra & Simulation" book, the page it opens on is the chapter on nihilism, a reflection of his state of mind.
The rejection of all religious and moral principles, in the belief that life is meaningless.
Because he has not yet found his meaning.
The only thing I think you missed was that the Oracle told Neo maybe he was waiting for his next life, and that he didn't become the one until after his heart had stopped.

The two opening chords are mirrored versions of each other (e minor and c major), one to symbolise the matrix and one the real world. B goes down 4 semitones to G then down 3 semitones to E, while the Adjacent C goes up 4 semitones to E and then up 3 semitones to G. There’s lots of cool little nuggets in this score
That's a good composer for the score.
I always took Neo’s apartment number being 101 a nod to the matrix itself as being made from code. We know code as being made from ones and zeros. 101 can also be seen in matrix reloaded when trinity and neo are exiting an elevator

I am not sure I agree with the idea that it is an homage to 1984, aside from passing references to the panopticon, which could be a general modern theme, I don't see a lot of resemblance to anything from 1984, The "News as Propaganda" is very thin thread, and conceptually was not what Orwell was getting at in the novel.
I think 101 as a nod to binary is a much better reference, than room 101 from 1984.

There's quite a few references to synthesisers in this movie. SH101 is one, Trinity is another, room 303 is featured (TB-303), Morpheus (Emu Morpheus), Oberheim Matrix, etc. I'm sure there's quite a few more but it's years since I've seen the movie and they're not mentioned here.
Binary 101 is 5 base 10. I don't know if that means anything though.
Trinity is in room 303. Neo is in room 101. They become a couple at the end and in the next scene he crashes their attempt to trace his anomaly signal with a 404 error code.
I saw matrix when I was 14, today I’m 31 and still no other movie impact me like this one did, there’s something very special about that film.

The First Matrix is still one of my favorite movies of all time. The perfect balance of allegory, philosophy, and entertainment. The sequels weren't bad, but the balance was off to me and seemed heavy-handed and obvious.
Also, all of the "duplicates" in Mouse's simulation are twin actors.

Furthermore, as the Architect said, Neo is the sixth anomaly, the sixth controlled opposition which they used to destroy Zion, wipe the slate clean, and then allow the inevitable revolution to commence again, but always a *controlled* revolution. Account for this, along with how Morpheus' "for 100 years" speech in Reloaded, and it's probably closer to the year 2699. 100 years per revolution times 5 previous revolutions equals 500 years, plus Morpheus' estimate of 2199, which comes to 2699.
Be wary of revolutions and revolutionaries in reality, for they may be unwitting agents of the very system they think they're revolting against.
@beery , while the architect rambles on saying that they have successfully destroyed Zion 5 times previously, leads me to believe that Zion is a part of the matrix for those minds who reject the first matrix giving them a feeling of freedom and not wanting to question Zion as an alternative matrix .
Being that in the 3rd movie the people were plugged into a program to control the opening of the gates and docking of the ships . I see that as Zion being part of the Matrix somehow ?

What is interesting is that when the agent’s are reviewing Neo’s file, it shows that his passport expires on September 11, 2001 (11 SEP/SEP 01). The very day that the U.S. was attacked and became known as the 9/11. Neo’s passport also lists Capital city is the federal district of Washington D.C. or District of Columbia distinct from the States

He lists the Dark Knight Trilogy, and did the first film of another trilogy... why not continue? And finish all 3? More work but more content to pay them back too, and besides, if they wanted to not overdo it just combine an analysis of the two sequels. Animatrix and comics could be a third vid in that case as well, seeing as most don't know about those ones.
You missed the fact that the chapter Neo opens to in "Simulacra and Simulation" is titled "On Nihilism" -- in philosophy, nihilism is "extreme skepticism maintaining that nothing in the world has a real existence"

Not really original at all except in the way that it took other peoples' work and put it together in an original way it had never been done before. Almost all the ideas in the Matrix were taken from other works of art. That doesn't make the Matrix bad, it was awesome, but "original" is not really the word to describe it.

Everyone misses the fact that Neo wasn't the one till he got the "software upgrade" (ate the cookie) the Oracle gave him. He got a further "software upgrade" when he ate the piece of candy the Oracle gave him, which could also have been an antivirus to protect him from Smith.
And in order to implement those software upgrades he needed a hard system reboot!!! Holy crap I just realised this!!!

It's more of an anomaly than the peak. There were great sci fi movies before and after Matrix and there will be greats in the future. Matrix just blew everything out of the water and is a GOAT that comes once in a generation.

The Matrix movie series is one of my favorites of all time. I've watched it about 50 times. Probably a bit too excessive for most people, but it's helped me through some serious health issues to take my mind off the pain. That and Disney movies. Weird, I know.
Disney movies have been found to have hypnosis frequencies and visual effects that hypnotize

It's a bit disappointing you didn't bring up "World on a wire" from 1973. It was the Matrix only in German. It used the phone to go into the machine the glitch a lot of what was in the Matrix. Once you see it you will realize where a lot of this came from.
This is a masterclass in film-making and philosophy.

Yes, you gain the ability to think, and "time slows" but I don't have any recollection of being able to act on the feelings in a material way when things slowed down, it was more like I could analyse the situation at much higher speed than I normally could, but my ability to "influence" the situation as it were was NOT increased..
That has been my experience with it the two times I have encountered it.

Is is a turbo mode, where you can figure out what is happening faster and more clearly? or is it something that gifts you the power to change the situation (ie take some kind of action you otherwise might not)?
@@gilbatzri Well, one time I was able to act on it. I lit the fuse on a homemade "fireworks" and saw that the fuse burned way too fast and was able to throw it in the split second it took for the thing to go off, but unfortunatly I did not manage to throw it more than half a metre. So I still have most of my fingers.

Something kind of small that I noticed on my first watch through is that the tiling on the ground floor of the building where Neo chooses the Red Pill is shown as black and white tiling. Though it could be nothing, this pattern certainly evokes the idea of 1's and 0's, i.e. the code that makes up the Matrix.
Could also be an Alice Through the Looking-Glass reference... the game of chess is played in that book... and chess, in general, is a game of strategy with pawns and kings and such... very symbolic...
What's really gonna blow your mind is when you look for the checkerboard pattern in every movie. Without trying subconsciously you'll find it. That and a sun.
