    Hi sweetie, just wanted to say that one of the many things I like about you is that you’re not all over the place, loud and hyper., so please don’t apologize and call it low energy. Actually, it’s that u r poised. You have a calming effect that’s very nice to the ears. I use aphogee and Keracare conditioner. They are specially for dyed hair. Swear by them! My fav. red color is;
    Creme of Nature. Bronze Copper 7.64 with Argan oil. It’s the most beautiful red I’ve ever come across. I won’t buy anything else, bc I have them stubborn gray hairs. I’ve tried Clairol, L’Oréal, etc.etc. NONE of them have worked. This will TOTALLY ged rid of the gray. My Locs are long like yours. I use two boxes. Rather have too much, than not enf. I recommend using two boxes if your Locs are mid-back or longer. I get it from Amazon. Make sure it’s the one with Argan Oil.

    Great tips! I bleached my locs at the 10-month mark since I was tired of the red. What I did was use a bleach cap (shampoo, 30-volume peroxide, and bleach powder) to lift the semi-permanent red out of my hair. It lifted it out just after 30 minutes and then I applied my green semi-permanent hair color. The thing that keeps my hair from falling out or becoming brittle is that I use a hair bonder (like Olaplex) when I am dyeing or maintaining my color. Works like a charm!

    I finally took the plunge lol. I dyed my locs a natural black from naturally sandy reddish/brown. And I absolutely LOVE it! I don't think I'll ever do a color other than black. But if I do, it'll more than likely be a temporary spray.

    Another option to try comes from Aveda. They have nice semi permanent colored conditioners. They deposit a decent amount of color that gradually washes out after shampooing weekly. It leaves my locs feeling soft after I air dry my hair.

    Coming from a hairstylist,red dye molecules are small. In order to help some of the fading I tell my clients to invest in a good shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair and to not wash their hair with super hot water. Depending on how porous a person's hair is will determine how well the color will take and how fast it could fade. Me personally as a hairstylist I am not a big fan of boxed colors because over time it can be a bit damaging, but if you are a person who has been using the same brand and shade of color for years then it's not too bad. Bleaching is very harmful on hair but with new technology cosmetologist can get bond treatments to act as a buffer so your color or bleaching process is not too damaging. When I need to use lightener I always mix a low developer around a 10 or 20 volume and take the lightening process slow instead of killing it with a 30 or 40 volume peroxide. If a person has never colored their hair I always would consult with a professional and have that stylist customize your color for your hair needs. 😊

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      iluvmusik92 thanks for your input! To my understanding, red dye molecules are relatively larger so they don't bond as well to the hair, thus causing faster fading rates

    A young lady I met that had her locs dyed only had her tips done. She said she bleached them but it didn't do damage because she didn't go to the roots. What do you think about this theory? I honestly don't think I'll bleach at all, I'm too afraid of damaging my locs.
    Also, I hear conflicting things about air drying, claims of causing mold. But I think that is the better way an don't believe it causes mold.

    I'm not sure if you have this problem but what could I do about the dye coming off on clothing, pillow cases, etc? My hair was dyed professionally and the colorist did saturate my locs. That may be why the color leaves on clothing. However, everytime I've done it by myself I've never had that problem. Have u had this issue, if so how did u deal with it?

    Ok so I’ve read that it’s not good to shampoo your hair immediately after coloring because it will wash away some of the color and the color won’t last as long. But I thought neutralizing shampoo was necessary? I just colored my hair with L’Oréal Highlights and 40 developer. I’m actually having an allergic reaction so I was gonna wash it with neutralizing shampoo. I’ve used dark and lovely boxed color for the last 8-10 years before I was loc’d to keep my hair honey blonde. This is my third time not using a box dye and I keep having this ppd allergic reaction so I’m going back to my boxed dyes. I hope my color doesn’t come out too much and still lasts a good while. Your Locs are beautiful! That’s the red I was going for but instead I got a deep purplish red, it’s pretty just not summery enough!

I also want to say that I have found a color that I love for my locks to stay so I'm done with bleaching all I would have to do is touch up my roots when they grow out what do you recommend that I do for that without the bleaching?

    Okay you said to not bleach only coat, but didn't you apply the red after you already had that light brown? My hair is really dark so won't I have to lighten it in order for it to be bright red?????
