I was awake all night in the SE USA to watch Steve Irwin’s Memorial LIVE as John sang this song & was immediately hooked. I played it for my preschool class almost daily after that & they loved it. In the US, I compare the sentiment to ‘Find Out Who Your Friends Are’ by Tracy Lawrence. John’s song has a smoother sound, but Tracy’s song hits the heart in a similar way:)🙏🇺🇸🙏🇦🇺

But the lines make me cry because instead of them being gone you wished they’d just stepped outside for smoke break and they’re coming back after. This is a great song for the funeral of someone who was always authentic and real, a true person.

I will be eternally grateful to my mother for teaching me what it means to be an Australian at such an early age. For all my failures as a person I can always hold in my heart that I am me. I heard this song today in a market in Brisbane, as I walked by in the crowd. Took me straight back to Steve Irwin and his funeral. I have to admit it brought on a few tears. Amazing, the power of music to take you back in time.

I heard this song today in a market in Brisbane, as I walked by in the crowd. Took me straight back to Steve Irwin and his funeral. I have to admit it brought on a few tears. Amazing, the power of music to take you back in time.
