i was 14 years old when this song came out so 49 now,,,,, listening to this song fills me with so much nostalgia and it makes me ache so hard for those days filled with amazing music like this.
l was 9 years old when this song came out l'm 44 years old now and l still love this song Jimmy Barnes is true legend
I was 6 and love this
Interstate driver here. So many posts here under 2-3 years goes to prove how great a song this is!
As a Canadian living in Australia for a few years - mid 80's, I fell in love with Barnes and Cold Chisel. When I thumbed through the 'bargain bin' back in Canada, I found "Freight Train Heart" and purchased it. When I listened to it ... I was blown away!
Great album. Have that on vinyl after picking up from the in laws.
After 32 years as a interstate truckie, that song is still close to my heart, Stay safe all.
That's nice comments you got there mate, can you DM me now for a good news
That's nice to hear that mate ok, can you DM me got good news to share with you mate
Yeah that's nice to see that comment mate, well you have to DM me as possible got some good news for you ok mate
Flame trees hits home as well, my fellow truckie.
You're a hero sir
Takes me back to the 80's . Best decade EVER. Cheers Jimmy
Better than now in so many ways!
Definitely the best decade, EVER, sadly, things are unlikely to EVER be that good again !
This song should be included in the National Australian Anthem of the truckies. Excellent song! This song reminds me of my dad who died 14 years ago. He liked this song. Not giving up or giving in. Chasing your dreams.
Fkn a it is the best having gone thru 2 major health problems ms 30 yrs ago hi grade bladder cancer 2% chance of getting thru and I was in the 2 never give up
This is heaven to a truckie
Especially when your going through the gears and it comes on the radio
30 years later he screaaming high notes in the cloud
Dedicate this to my old man,
Colin King who was an interstate Truckie for 27 years, (to support wife & 5 Boys), before he passed.
I can relate. My Dad was a truckie too for over 40 years. He passed not long ago. Even his funeral was truck themed just like he wanted.
@@harryboyes2812 long live the good ol Truckies...

I was old enough to start driving truck in 2005 and...well...by now, all the magic just seems to be gone. No more "freedom of the highway", just more paperwork. This kind of old song, though, rekindles a tiny spark of joy again, so I keep coming back to it every few months. 🙂
I want to be a truck driver but paperwork will be a nightmare. I've seen my dad do it.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, also knowing the story behind the song makes it so special. Genius slide guitar solos. Genius lyrics. Genius music.
This has always been my favourite driving song and most likely always will be. A massive thank you to all the truckies out there keeping this great country moving - without trucks, Australia stops!! 🚚 🇦🇺 🇦🇺
That's nice and good to see that, all nice and beautiful I can only see out there
Where you from ?
Thanks for your comment and supports, your comments and constant support has brought me this far. Keep Supporting
The same applies for American truckers
With trucks australia goes nowhere
💚💛💚💛 2024, Still pumps. living legend
I like to think that Barnesy is still out there, every night, screaming at truckies passing through outback towns.
Probably because they wake him up with their Jake Brakes haha
LOOK UP BARNES AND JOE BANAMASSA DOING "LAZY" BY DEEP PURPLE
Hes in a much better place...and he never screamed at truckies......
@@lornastrachan9234 WHAT DO YOU MEAN,A BEETER PLACE?
😂👌👌
A top song for our trucking brothers, thinking of Jimmy recovery from his heart operation ❤️.
FOR ALL THE TRUCKIES ! GOD BLESS YOU 🙌 🙏 ❤
Legendary song. My Dad bought me Barnesy's Anthology for my 10th birthday and I've been a lifelong Chisel/Barnes fan ever since. Keep on rocking!
After a motocycle accident,I was in a deep, deep coma for over three months.Doctors said I was Brain dead, yes there is live on the other side.I have being there and back, making a wonderful recovery.Even if it took me twenty years. Thanks for this wonderful music, giving me strength when I needed it most.
The respect motorists show towards motorcyclists is absurd I'm glad Ur here to tell your story to the minority that will respect or respond to this post I take my hat off to you my friend....
If there's another side as you say, then what was it? Can you describe it or recall it? Just saying 'there's life on the other side' doesn't make it so. For all we know from your story is that you were braindead after an accident and then woke back up.

This song I feel like was made not only for the truck drivers but for the trucks themselves
My great uncle was a truckie and operated out of Margaret river out here in WA. But he had to stop trucking 2 years prior to this song releasing due to a terminal illness... but despite his trucking days behind him and himself long gone I am proud to say that his first truck - a 1979 Kenworth K100 flatbed - which was his favourite lives on and will do so until all things come to an end
This song I feel like is especially for people like him and the trucks the beasts that roar down the roads that truly are part of the 3 major things that keep Australia going - Trucks, ships and trains- Australia wouldn’t be the same or as lively without them
As a night freight pilot we're just as much in the mix as the others. They call us "Moths" for a reason, we only come out at night.
Your a hundred and ten percent right my brutha, Australia needs this industry. We are nothing without it and we would be just an island I reckon… I feel bad for all the blokes rhat try their hardest and never receive nothing
best comment on TH-cam.
Absolutely 💯
Barnes is still alive. In fact, he is forming a group with the ex-drummer of the Stray Cats and they are playing rock-a-billy. (No real surprise there). Born in Scotland and moved to Australia when he was five years old. If you want to hear him at his best watch the video called Lazy. Incredible performance by him AND one of Bonnamassa's best rock songs.
E sang a duet with the queen Tina Turner. That's the only time I ever heard of hom. He has a really great voice.
Hello mate
And to the same woman as well
Definitely Absolutely AMAZING
Iconic Australia! The life blood of the country. Can only imagine how many millions of times this has been played back on those lonely drives cross the land while pull'n 50 tonnes and turning 26 wheels. Fucking Awesome anthem.....
This is my all time favourite Jimmy Barnes song. Thank you for what you do.
Some say you can still hear Barnesey screaming at trucks on the Hume 🤣
Far out Jimmy your voice is just beyond this world mate you absolute LEGEND!

Dave Lindley Gone NO !! handsdown the best pedal slide guitarist. His intro and slide throughout is everything on this song. So sad he's gone RIP Dave Lindley
Lap steel. He was actually a multi instrumentalist.
What a start. The instrumental at the begining makes me think of a big rig reving up from the depot, or in the city. then the drum and rhythm kicks in as he hits the broken lines on the highway
For about two years, I was living the lyrics to this song as a long haul truck driver. It makes me miss that life
Beautiful, a song dedicated to all Truckies out there. Keep em Prime Movers rollin'.
I had a very sheltered childhood, but when i bought my first cassette it was Soul Deep and that poor cassette was played 1000's times over. I love Jimmy Barnes to bits😙💜
I played this song for a jimmy Barnes fan at work and He sang the whole song
Truckies.. the backbones of Australia ❤
That’s for sure. RESPECT for the truckies.🙏🏾
It was March 1988, I had been in Australia for about 4 hours and this came on MTV and I was like 'how the fuck have I never heard this guy before?' Been a massive Cold Chisel and JB fan ever since. Aussie Rock at its best.
Well he's following the broken lines
Living on borrowed time
Motel rooms and broken hearts all left behind
You swear he couldn't close his eyes
As he shifts into overdrive
He's been up and down this road so many times
The man of his own
And searching just keeps him proving
That only the road
Can tame the rebel in his soul
It's the rhythm of the highway
As he rolls on down
And city lights as they fade from sight
Drives the man behind the driving wheels
Like a cowboy in a rodeo
Riding hard but never letting go
You'll be wand'ring through the twilight of his life
Waylon Jennings on the radio
Country music and engines roar
Like a shooting star across a desert sky
And he's got a home
But it's out on the blue horizon
Heaven only knows
There's still a rebel in his soul
It's the rhythm of the highway
As he rolls on down
And city lights as they fade from sight
Drives the man behind the driving wheels
And chasing southern lights
In the distant sky
And open plains with the mountains high
Drives the man behind the driving wheels
Well he's thought about settling down
A little diner on the edge of town
But in this world of push and shove
He's still got freedom in his blood
It's the rhythm of the highway
The lyrics, this is perhaps the greatest road song rock n roller that says a million things to millions of people, thanks again for the lyrics, a reminder when we all sing along , such a story too. Still am,azed at this mans quality, and to think he thought for so long in his life he was no good not worth it, a lesser person thank god he came through, because he is such a good person , he didn't see it in himself, only others, well you are Jim a good human , read your books, what an experience your life has been. And brother can you ever belt out a song !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr Charles Slinger . To you sir I offer my thanks for posting the full lyrics set . I had been unable to decipher them . That frustration is now gone . Worth sincerity . Neville Drinkwater
Hello mate
Thanks a lot mate. Very helpful 😊
Love this
Going to see Jimmy live for the first time ever this Saturday. And it will be an experience I bet!! Once in a lifetime.
American. Friends with a Russian trucker. First time hearing this. I grew up in the age of "Convoy" and "Phantom 309" and "Eastbound and Down." This song follows the tradition with the hard drive, high energy of the 1980s. Already I love it as much as I do "Working Class Man" that I heard in the '86 movie "Gung Ho."
First song I've heard from Jimmy over here in Sweden. Boy, this record were spinning :-) Found his catalogue, AND, after that, his history with other musicians...Ian Moss for instance. Great musicians.
pray for australia ...god save Australia for the terrible bush fire
Our prime minister has been doing enough of that, but not much else. Lot of good that's done us...
Im 32 heard this song growing up i love the truckies and what they do thank you
🚚Driving Wheels 🚛 . Thanks Jimmy Barnes ❤. For dedicating this song❤ . For your sweet precious dad❤ . Every Man and Woman ❤. Who drives 18-wheelers every day of the week ❤. I Want To Thank You . For all your dedication ❤. Seeing that the load you are carrying ❤. Get delivered to their destination ❤. Drive safe and take care of your selves 💓.
They've always been underpaid, under appreciated, overworked, targeted by police and screwed over by Work Cover. There are some bad peas in the pod but most are real heroes, saving lives along the way like my husband did before his work injury which ironically was in the yard and not out on the road. I'm still fighting WC 15 months after he died which was 3 years after his injury. There are many of us who've lost our loves to the road and not only truckies.
Much respect for you and your hubby. The logistics industry is a tough game. WC is a bastard to deal with and I'm sorry you had to endure it. I'm sure your hubby will be looking down on the rest of us in the game. I hope this song gives you great memories of a great time in Australia. RIP
Rock is on the endangered list but we'll always have Barnsey to fall back on...... Music that touches the soul
Are you kidding me. I was 17yo when I first heard this song. I'm about to turn 52yo & I never knew this. My first boyfriend absolutely loved it & so do I. God bless x
This is the one song that brings be back up
When I'm down , and the song that inspires me and motivates me to keep going
I did a short stint as a long-haul trucker across the U.S., but those road trains you guys drive down there in Oz sound like a new definition of a hard run. In any case, I love the song. It reminds me of the only good thing about that job: the miles themselves, the open road.
I remember as a kid first hearing this and blown away. Couldnt afford the whole album so i got it on a good old cassingle
This song is not a movie, it's a whole life story!
Great song made for a great industry that we all rely on!
Thanks boys and girls
Aussies a breed of their own ......Legends on the highway......Hero's. ....proud to be part of the history....👍
Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
I know what is like to be on the road all the time.

Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
This song will never get old love it just wants to make u get behind the wheel and just cruise no destination👍
Every time I get into my old 1969 Ford Falcon Ute and cruise down the M1 I will play this song.. She's got 600,000ks and a third engine rebuild but.. Amen (if your religious).
I love this song and the production. The drums 🥁 are powerful.
'Truck on and keep the engines turned on', this music is the one Im looking for. The best rock music that Jimmy Barnes has ever composed of for every trucker they listen to.
