The Most Underappreciated Player In Hockey

  • Brad Marchand holds the record for most suspensions in NHL history. From 2011 to the present, Marchand has been suspended 8 times by the League, forfeited over 1.4 million dollars over the 28 games he’s been suspended from, been fined 6 times, and has spent over 1000 minutes in the penalty box. Hes been labelled the “ultimate agitator and According to a 2020 poll by The Athletic, almost a third of NHL players voted Marchand as the dirtiest player in the NHL.
When a player's bad behavior becomes so frequent that he needs a “Days Since Last Incident” sign hung around his neck, there’s clearly a problem. Brad Marchand, known for his foul play and risky tactics, has earned the nickname "The Rat” from fellow players and fans alike. From engaging in bizarre acts like kissing and licking opponents to savage beat-downs and dangerous incidents resulting in fines and suspensions, Marchand's track record definitely shows a player with a love for drama. The Boston Bruins’ Captain has switched between penalty-provoking pest, to mature fan favorite, and back again over the course of his career. But is it all just brawn and no brains, or does Marchand have a strategic side that could make him one of hockey’s most underrated players?

And not once did you mention his unwavering loyalty to his teammates. The man puts his body on the line to defend his teammates every time he is on the ice. You do something dirty to a Bruins, Brad is going to stand up if it won't hurt the game. He is also an incredible off ice leader. He is kind to everyone and stops for the fans - especially kids. people like you are exactly why this league is so soft now compared to the 2010s. Focused on all the wrong things. He is an agitator thats what makes him stand out and his young teammates look up to him. He has value in the locker room and is really good with mentoring teammates and keeping the locker room loose and fans in the Boston Community. Yes he has had some questionable antics in the past but there have been far worse things than what he has done. Maybe hockey isn't your thing maybe you should go play softball or soccer instead if you're gonna pussify the league. @@maxx4576

he reminds me very much of myself when i played growing up. I was always the fiesty yappy one but also had wicked wrist shots and can use em to score. 2019 sure hurt bad cause he prolly would've been the mvp and it was at home unlike 2011 in vancouver. Plus, it would be 2 cups for him instead of 1 and 2/3 for finals results instead of 1/3 although 1 is better than none yes. People who whine and cry ab past antics and ignore his skill and talent are exactly why the league is softer than ever now and it kinda sucks. People don't realize there have been far worse things and players than him too. @@TheHockeyVault

As a student of the NHL's history, it seems to me you never heard of Sprague Cleghorn, a great hall off ame player who held grudges a mile wide, espeically against his former team mates. This was a man who was so violent he was actually once fined by his own Team's manager for his attack on Lionel Hitchman....a player for a different Team lol. That's a man who once beat his own wife with one of his crutches. Marchand seems like a choirboy in comparison.

His numbers are better than most NHLers. And as far as being dirty, the times he's been cheap shotted is a bit more than any of his shenanigans. Barring any insanity, he's in the Hall. This video is bias big time. He's gotten called for penalties that were BS. He gets called more because of his reputation which he did create that himself. But he doesn't make no bones about either. The league is changing whether we like it not to a weaker game so that the skills can shine, but in the days of Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Phil Esposito, Bobby Clark and Bobby Orrs they played hard AND showed the skills. It's all watered down and guys like Brad still reflect that old world hockey.

Any hockey fans would be embarrassed to have him on their team. His numbers are simply because he was hitching onto great players. He didn't get more penalties was simply due to who the owner of the Bruins is. If he is on any other team, he would still be sitting in the penalty box at this very moment.
