You've built an amazing bomber seat factory there. Would love to hear the back story on when you invested in tooling to up the production and how much longer the seats took before you had the tooling. Your presses are brilliant designs...they take a bit of trial and error? The bead roller looks like the design 101 others on youtube have beefed up to stop the flex. That bit of plate and clamps sorts that issue for you doing edges?

Some of them do, but the majority are so simple it’s just ensuring the tolerances are correct between the male and female.
Yeah, pretty much! You do still get some flex, but it needs to be removable so you still have access to the entire throat of the tool for wider jobs. I’m sure there’s a better solution, but this have proven to do the job so far 🙂

Awesome seat and fabrication but i dont think the riv nuts are a strong enough anchor to the car, unless those are a different type with more meat when they get clamped but i have seen many a riv nut pull through from relatively small flexing

I’ve been using this design for quite a few years now and made a couple of thousand of these with that fixing method. No issues have arisen as yet, but I can see why you’d think it may be a failure point. My pressing design does help shift any pulling strain away from the nut itself (basically transfers that energy through to the seat base, which would have to be rather significant to cause a failure!) 🙂

Yes, the machine here has a high frequency start option, so no contact has to be made for the arc to start. Simply bring the tungsten down to a couple of mm’s from the material and hit the pedal (I rarely use the trigger, but I’ll cover that soon 👍).
You may well see more on this in next week’s video, we’ll see what people choose!

What grade aluminium do you use? Seems to swage and bead roll nicely

Nothing particularly special. 5251 for the pretty much everything (very standard grade here in the UK) 😊👍

Ah, ok. This does still buckle and twist, but the dies are relatively large radia (3mm inside for the false wire roll), so can be shrunk with a bit of hammer work relatively easily 🙂
