Welcome to Fantastic Fabrication & Welding Wizardry!
On this channel you’ll find a new engineering project every week and have the opportunity to decide what those projects will be.
Ranging from full build videos, instructional videos on fabrication equipment, visits to other engineering shops and more!
Each week, we will give you guys the choice of This, or That, to be shown the following week. The most popular choice will go ahead for that week and the second will be held back for the following month.
Along side this open choice, we will give away one of the parts produced each month to one lucky subscriber!
So, thank you for being here and I hope you enjoy the videos!

EP6 - Running 3 Phase Machines in a Single Phase Garage?!
Welcome to Episode 6!
This week, we’ll be looking at the easiest way to add a 3 phase power supply to a single phase garage, via a VFD, or Variable Frequency Drive. This may not be as complicated as it sounds!

where do you smoke your spliffs? lol
Where did you go?? Handful of videos and then disappear? Miss seeing new content from you.
Apologies Lucas, my work has been stupidly busy this year! I have plans for a couple more pretty soon, showing some of the new stuff that’s been happening here. Everything will be explained in that one 👍
very very nice! I really appreciate the designs and craftmanship of your seats! Greetings from Amsterdam
I have an AHP welder which is a sister company to Everlast Welders in the USA. I can see your R-Tech welder is from the same family per the layout, programming and even the molded handle and peak.
Just came across this by accident. You're the bike jumper/fabricator I had followed on IG at one time. I used to design bomber seats 7 or 8 years ago but did not fabricate. Just getting into welding now. You set the bar high, Josh.
thanks bro, size your workshop same with me
Three!!!
No comments yet! You are an engineering nutter 😂
HOLA... TIENES ENVÍO A VENEZUELA...
HOLA... DESDE VENEZUELA... EXCELENTE... TE FELICITO... SOY TU NUEVO SUSCRITOR...
Looks very cool hope to see it in use. 👍👍
Absolutely - faced that problem all my life.
That swing out press blade is a sneaky bit of genius! Impressive! Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Well, that explains it better 😉😆
😆 👌
Very cool got to love a tool like that I made 1 just to do little tabs
Awesome! They are a very handy bit of kit!
Its got to be one of the best Bomber seats I have seen made! true artist.
Thanks Geoff! Appreciate the comment 🙂
Love it! Recently found you on instagram and now hooked!
Thank you Ben! Full episodes will be back shortly, work is crazily busy at the moment!
If your 80 pounds wet then I can see this being comfortable
Lucky we can make them to any width, ay 😉
Absolutely fantastic love it great work and skills 👍👍
Thank you Justin 🤝👍
Those VFDs are really meant to be in an electrical enclosure, hence rudimentary terminal covers and no form of cable restraints. But, it's your garage.
Appreciate the concern Mark 👍
great job, keep it up man👍👍
Thanks dude 🫶👍

I want it! Awesome build!! Rewire the drill!
Thanks Brandon! You’re in ✅
3 phase into my garage…. Yes please… Big lathe and ….and… and other big stuff… There are lots of 3 phase things on marketplace just waiting to be bought… and collected(heavy) all would one need to do is learn how you use them..
The possibilities!!! 😆🤝
Great video, what type of motor did you use in your rotary table? Thanks
Thanks Shane 🤝 I can’t remember off the top of my head, it’s been a few years since I’ve had a proper play with it! Only a cheap, 90 degree geared 12v motor I think!
🤣 that's just your luck... 😂 arh il have ago, then boom... he's only gone an nailed it first try 🤣 keep you the great content buddy. look forward to the next one an to also see the next this or that 👍
😆 Wish it was like that all the time! Thanks Craig 🤝
Electrician as well as welding wizard ⚡️🔩
I wouldn’t go that far! 😆🫶
I WANT IT! 😉

Absolutely loving your videos Josh. Keep them coming mate! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Jack! Glad you’re enjoying them 🤝🫶
Do you sell these
I do indeed! You can find them here - www.classic-race-fabrication.co.uk 👍
Ah, I wish it were always that simple! You touched on it at the end (needing the motor to be wired in the delta configuration) but - 3ph in the UK is 415V across all three phases while domestic 1ph is 240V, so this style of VFD will work fine for a motor in delta config but not in star, and not all 3ph motors are selectable in their wiring. The motor on my Bridgeport had the 'point' of the star buried in the housing rather than exposed at the wiring block which meant it would only run 415V 3ph so my options were either a "step up" VFD (more expensive but there are *some* cheap Chinese ones now), a rotary phase converter (expensive but can run multiple machines) or have the motor re-wound.. the latter (by W.H. Shoebridge & Sons) was by far the most cost effective as they didn't have to do a full rewind, just 'pull out' the star. Is is DIYable but for the cost of the work (under £200) I got new bearings, paint, insulation tested etc etc. Anyway the whole point of this was - if you aren't sure how your motor is wired, a local rewinder is pretty cheap peace of mind and might even be able to save you the cost of a new motor if yours is permanent-star :) Now I just need to figure out what to do with the 3ph power feed on the X axis.. it's only been three years (sound familiar? 😂)
Thanks Aaron! Appreciate the run down! Oh yes, it’s a great feeling 😆
£200 sounds pretty reasonable. I'm a sparky and would be in two minds whether to DIY or send it out at that price.
@@markrainford1219 I thought it was well worth it considering it also got me an insulation test etc etc on the windings (not like I have a Megger lying around :)) and the bearings, blasting & paint. Lucky for me the place is practically around the corner. Plus I got to drool over their Colcheste Magnum!
Yaaas!!! Cheers!
No problem Graham 👍 Sorry it hasn’t gone into as much detail as I intended!
Not at all. This is just what I needed. I have the same Drill press. @@FanFabWeldWiz
Can you run a 3 phase tig through one of those josh or will it melt something?
I’m pretty sure this type wouldn’t, but I’m not 100% sure. The main job of this type of VFD is to act as a motor controller, so I think you would need a dedicated phase inverter rather than a VFD. Great question! 👍🤝
Very cool. And I bet that’s going to come in real handy👍👍
It will indeed! 🫶💪
Be it that you only have 50 hz generated to you are you able to run your machines at 60 hz off the vfd
Yep, I can’t remember the full range of this unit, but it will be able to output at 60 hertz 👍
Is that a turntable project on the bench 👀
It is indeed! I started it a couple of years ago, but it needs a bit more head space to get working as nicely as I’d like it to. It’ll get there one day! 🤟
So cool 👍👍
Thanks Justin 🤟🫶
Thanks for the prompt reply. Will be good to see the tools of your trade in use to your high standards Mike
No problem Mike! Thanks for watching sir 🙂
I WANT IT Great job and great channel starting here , I love your work and very inspiring managing so much with so little! Just found your channel and saw all the videos at once ,great job and keep on inspiring people!
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the channel 🙂. You’re in ✅
Very similar to my setup.
Great minds and all that 💪🫶
Great video. Do you happen to know Matt Clarke by any chance? Used to work with him in Swindon at a metal furniture company. Once mentioned he knew someone fabricating Ally seats & I spotted your Tarty Bikes top. 👍
Thank you sir! Yes, I’ve know Matt for a fair while now! Haven’t seen him for a bit as they have moved away from trials recently, but good lad 🤟
brilliant attention to detail. I want it!
