This just might be my next sweater! I am a year into my knitting journey and have a few scarves, some cowls and 1 sweater under my belt. I have been dreaming of a few of the Petiteknit sweaters for awhile. Thanks for all the tips!

Discovered you through a comment on The Gentle Knitter and love the idea of highlighting garments in this way so am now going to watch your take on the ranunculus which I’ve yet to make! Thank you for sharing with us. Jackie, UK.

I love the sweater. I am also a lover of a relaxed fit and was looking at petite knits patterns and I really like them. So many beautiful designs, very difficult to choose one to start with. The colour is amazing but I have to find a cotton yarn that I can use as I can’t wear wool. Thanks for showing off your sweater you did a fabulous job.

    • @songbirdsadeknits

Good luck to you, Monika, in finding the perfect yarn! It can be a challenge, but a fun one. Have you tried superwash wool yarn? It tends to be less itchy. There are also some lovely cotton and wool blends out there that are a good compromise if you can tolerate the little bit of wool content. If you can’t do wool at all, you’re not alone. There are plenty of lovely cotton yarns, too. Rowan make some nice ones, and there a few Danish brands that are lovely as well.

Loved the video. We have the same body shape so I appreciate the changes you suggested. I might also do the cuffs in garter stich as well. I'm having trouble figuring out the German short rows while increasing at the same time. any suggestions? I don't know if I am misreading the pattern. ciao Debra.

Hi Debra. Glad that you appreciated some of my modifications. The pattern is lovely as is, but it doesn’t suit all body types for sure.
Hm. It’s been a while since I knit this, although I plan to cast on another one in the very near future. I don’t recall the German short rows + increasing being an issue. I don’t know about this specific pattern, but usually the short row turns are not placed too near other details. So, when you’re working on a short row on the right side, you’ll encounter the raglan shaping and a turn in the same row - just take it one step at a time. I can imagine that keeping track of how many turns you’ve done and how many increases you’ve done could be an issue, in which case I might suggest keeping a tally or a chart for each separate technique. But, the short rows will be over before you know it, and then you’ll just be doing the Raglan increases on their own.
I hope this helps! I’m a bit foggy on the details of the pattern - I’m sure you’ll figure it out though. We knitters (almost) always do, some way or another.
      Happy knitting to you!

I am a fairly new knitter. I found you because I'm knitting the No Frills sweater. I was hoping to get some help in reading the instructions for the back neck. I understand the raglan shaping but don't understand where to add the German short row stitches. Can you help me?

      Hello Suzanne
I don’t think I can be of much help in this fashion, but I’ll say what I can here. I do think it would be best if you checked if there was a forum in Ravelry for this sweater. Most designers have a questions and help forum.
What I can tell you is that upon checking the pattern, the German short rows are written right into the pattern. You don’t have to do anything except follow the instructions! Where it tells you to begin the German short rows, while doing the Raglan increases at the same time, the instructions immediately following that are actually the steps to do just that. Where it says turn, that’s indicating that you have done a German short row.
If you haven’t done German short rows before, I would recommend looking at a tutorial. Very Pink Knits has a good one. They are simple to do.
      Good luck! I’m
      Sure you’ll get it!

Hi, it's been a year since this is posted but I'm struggling to find help with this pattern can anybody help me? I cast on the small 112 sts, but for the raglan set up row the small numbers are off. Is that throughout the pattern or just that section. I was to knit 20 add raglan stitch, knit 14 add raglan st, knit 40 add raglan st... knit 14 then knit 20. That adds up to 108 for the extra small size cast on. I added up the medium size and it didn't even match any of the cast ons.

You know what I think as you set up you don’t make the increase you just put a marker to separate the stitch for the raglan maybe 😊

Hello, what is garter stitch welt?

    • @songbirdsadeknits
      @songbirdsadeknits  ปีที่แล้ว

Garter stitch is the pattern created by alternating knit and purl rounds (knitting in the round) or knitting every row (flat). Welt refers to the hem at the bottom of the sweater.

Thank you for your insights. This is my second time making this pattern and I too have the issue with 1 x 1 rib riding up at the waist. For the garter stitch welt, did you also decrease needle size as you would for ribbing?
