I thought, “Oh, I just need to train.” So i trained but the last session was so discouraging. I barely was able to complete some moves. I want to try again though. The game is really beautiful.
Parrying is NOT as bad an idea as he makes it sound, and is in fact absolutely neccessary if you're trying for the Wude ending (sparing all bosses), because that needs you to break their structure bar twice without killing them. Dodging is safer most of the time (unless you consistently fail mixups) but true mastery is being able to use both and knowing which one is best in any given situation.
@@raindrain1 IDK if avoids are really that good. I mean, if you are able to avoid everything on the run and realize quickly enough the windows to punish, it might be great. But I'm not able to realize the windows quickly enough to punish and I don't notice there is an incoming sweep kick fast enough to avoid it. Since I am as bad as that, I just parry/deflect everything and go for heavy or light attacks. And it works. I take almost no damage. You guys gotta be pretty smart to do all those complicated combinations.
@@slowtalker Avoiding builds meter. Upgrade your amount of Focus slots and thank me later. Parrying isn't as important as @raindrain1 makes it sound. You have to break them once to get to second phase anyways, so that's basically a freebie (and let's be real, most of you are not ever going to go for a true ending run). There is no need to spend a bunch of time practicing parries, especially considering you can seemingly spam the block button and get them for free a lot of the time. Generally speaking, avoids are just far superior (spamming left to right avoid seems to be op, so try that maybe). Blocking is for pussies. Also the combos are not hard at all. Most fighting games are harder to learn. They look a lot more flashy than they are and you have to realize that they aren't pushing buttons for every hit on screen. The key is making a little tool bag of combo stings and set ups that work for you (bread and butter combos for any FGC nerds). Then you can worry about being flashy. Fighting games are kinda similar, most players aren't even using 50% of their characters move list. Most players are also bad though lol. Just recognize that you don't *have* to use everything to be effective, it makes learning these kinds of games a lot easier for the uninitiated.
You know what, I'm an old man, I've been here on TH-cams since its inception. And I gotts tell you, you are one nof the best educators I have ever seen. Flattery aside, the way you explained this game was exactly what I needed. Crystal clear, surgically precise. And immediately made my gaming experience that much better. Thank you and I wish you luck my man.
This was exactly what I needed. Crazy good guide and info! Thanks so much. I realized I was getting frustrated because I was absolutely playing it all wrong, trying to parry everything, and then panic dodging around a room when that didn't work with a group of them. It made me not like the game much. I am going to play again with all this in mind. Best tip btw was the away and forward for sweep kick. I always wondered why "up/down" only seemed to work sometimes. I thought I was just not doing the timing correctly.
I got the game in Nov. 2022. Gave up due to difficulty. Now I started again and exploring the combos and your video seriously helps one become a master at the game. You have put a lot of effort on the video and have explained things beautifully. Nice work. Gonna try all your advices.
this video saved this game for me. I was playing just mashing x and y and mainly dodging with r2 and attempting to parry. This video made me finally feel like I'm in control of the fight and it's so much more rewarding playing this way
so. incredibly. helpful. As suggested I'll watch the rest after the first couple levels.. and probably after playing them again and again to gain some muscle memory on those 5 or 6 basic mechanics.

But ever since saw this video n after practicing for jus 30 mins,im getting the hang of it..... I love playing it now even though i still need a bit of practice mastering the combos n the move..... The swipe kick is quite tricky as u have to change the buttons according to ur positioning..... Once again thanks again @underthemayo
Oh you mean "do these 10 different things once all in the intro and we'll assume you've learned what to do"? You're telling me that wasn't a good approach?
it landed on Gamepass so Im about to take it for my first spin, first "what to know before you play" video I came across was filled with things like "pick up weapons" safe to say this was a lot more helpful
GREAT video! Instead of "watch til the end so I get the most credit from the algorythm" you say "If you want to see each boss fresh, stop it here. goodbye!" Haha I appreciate that! And I'll be back. Several times!
Picked this game up recently and I've been loving the experience. It's so good! I had a really rough time at The Club Boss which gave me a hard time but once I figured how be patient & dodge his bo staff attacks for counters the rest of the game wasn't as rough honestly. An amazing game indeed.
Sean is a big skill check. He tests your knowledge of the game, which sadly the game just doesn't give you. Once you understand how to beat him, the rest of the game clicks.
@@underthemayo yep that's exactly what happened. Thanks for the video though cause it's gonna help me improve even more &dying less on these levels with your advanced tutoring. Appreciate it.
Got this game yesterday and was having such a tough time finding the groove until I watched this guide and spent some time in training building up the muscle memory. Thank you! Also, something I haven't seen anyone mention yet: The editing on this video is great! Really helps accentuate your points and fully elucidates the concepts as you're explaining them. Great job pal.
Video helped out a lot! Just last night I was feeling unmotivated and was thinking about if I should continue the game, but after this video I feel like a pro
I’ve been playing this game for months and I just watched your guide today. You’ve earned my subscription Man. So much enlightenment, disciple thanks you
I am coming back to this game after being frustrated about not getting my level two. I was doing so many things incorrectly I'm amazed I got as far as I did. I wanted a better explanation of what I needed to do to get better as I really want to finish this game. Your videos are gold!! This is the best video I have found yet that actually explains the game and what to do to get better. This is very well done, sir!! Excellent. I WILL get though this game yet!
Sifu is in GamePass now so that's why my comment is so late, but man thank you so much. By far the best video on this yet. I've beat the game already and absolutely loved it but I feel as if I didn't actually get good at the game so that's my goal now. Goals and arenas.
I’m glad you dropped a video today. You helped get through the day and it’s Friday tomorrow yay. Also I’ll play Sifu when I get home and give your video a couple more views
This guide is super helpful. Just got this as a deal and wanted to play it forever. Was having a ton of trouble trying to parry everything. So much more enjoyable to avoid like you noted.
This is the only video that has actually helped me. Everyone always says parry, block. But, I'm in free range practice now just playing against some of the enemies and the dodge is helping so much. I can stop focusing on trying to hit them, and understand the patterns.
But pls do not make the mistakes of starting the game on the newly added student difficulty, trust me it's a waste of time and you will have one reason less to become better. My friend did exactly that and thought the game was pretty boring.
@@Ageleszly I suggest, you edit the beginning of your comment to "please do not make the mistake of starting the game on the newly added student difficulty". Otherwise your comment sounds like it's encouraging us to start on the student difficulty, until we read the second half.
I just got this game and I've been watching a lot of videos and this one is just what I was looking for. I was struggling with crowd control and trying to always parry which wasn't helping a lot
I got this game a few days ago and tried it out. My character was 31 when I started The Club and I saw my first final death before I could get to the boss. Then I remembered this guide and watched it. Now I'm at The Museum with my character at the age of 33 thanks to your tips and suggestions. I like doing the L-L-L-H combo (the one ends with a tornado kick, which knocks most enemies down) to mix things up here and there and I still should use Palm Strike and Sweep Kick more but I feel like I'm improving.
Thanks for this Mayo it is really helpful I got this game a long time ago and got distracted but I liked it and I wanted to understand it a bit more, this video is very helpful. I am only watching half for now just so I don't forget the basics so I'll stick to the info from the first half and once I'm using that info instinctively I will learn the rest, thanks again mate👍
Super helpful The game doesn’t bother to tell you all the stuff you have complied I just started the game yesterday and was sucking so bad at it 😃 Thanks to your video I will soon become a Shaolin monk 😃
Great guide. Especially the game mechanic/progression explanation. I think it deserves a short separate video. That said, I think avoiding is far more important than any comboing. I finished the entire game on "disciple" using the occasional sweep and heavy attacks only while avoiding/blocking attacks waiting for openings. Also no throwing. I'm obviously still playing implementing the rest of advices but for fundamentals heavy attack + avoid = GG
This is some of the best communication and some of the best info. The quality of this video is top-notch. I'll give you a like and sub for this, why not, great job.
Personally my GOTY for 2022 The combat is one of a kind, so dynamic, every play-through is a unique experience. The slow feeling of getting good is immensely satisfying. But goddamn master is a humbling experience after you already got Disciple mode by the balls Also shoutout to UTM for making these videos. I know your first video guide on the club was instrumental on me actually learning the fundamental mechanics because back then we didn’t even have the preliminary tutorial for the basics, and even when they brought it into the intro it would’nt have done much. But a video like this would do a lot to reign in the new players and actually manage to beat Sean. Biggest mistake Sloclap made was to lose mass player retention by not explaining how to deal with Sean in the beginning
Not to brag but I beat sifu without ever intentionally using throw.....mainly because I never could figure it out. Sifu is a great game and one of my all time favorites. Really any game that does something new is so refreshing that they stand out, games need to get out of being stroll playing games
Dude, throwing was like a core part of my playthrough. It is just so satisfying, fun and extremely useful and versatile. Sure, it's not mandatory to use it, but then again, you can play through the entire game by dodging and blocking everything and using a basic light attack combo.
Ill have to try a throws run. . I love new innovations and learning new mechanics or new ways of story telling. Sifu, doom eternal, The messenger, Inscryption, BABA is you, are some of my latest favorites.
@@RPC87I know this is a year old, but if u like Sifu soo much and learning ect try out some fighting games. Tekken might be your favourite game, or street fighter, tekken is closer to Sifu imo.
You should be a teacher. Totally inspired me to keep going as I've found the mechanics difficult. Whilst i used to love a fighting game, its been about 30 years and i was wondering if i just didnt have the reactions anymore! Brilliant guide. Patient, super clear. Love the way you give simple steps for different stages of experience. Little things like "stop here" instruction for those just starting... Much appreciated!
@@underthemayo well it shows 🙂 I'm a PS5 player unfortunately so I'm not sure if many of your reviews will apply to me but I'm scanning your content for recommendations as it seems I like what you like! It's particularly nice to get content that feels geared towards people of my age. I know so many people in their 40s who've lost their love for gaming. So called AAA seems to have sucked the joy out. We're often in the pub asking what happened, wondering why everything feels so formulaic, or if it's just an age thing. You've convinced me it's an industry big studio problem. Loving Sifu
what the hell this is magic, i got zero death on my first map, lmao thanksss love you undermayo, im confuse why im fukin bad in this game, dead too much, and i saw ur video, damn it works, got zero death lmao , starting to love this game, thanks underthemayo love you
I love how this game gives you flexibility in how you fight. Some people dont like parrying and dodge and avoid hits. I on the other hand habe beaten entire dead cells with shields only (you can block for damage deny or parry which damages enemy). So I naturally block but I finished sifu twice already and still CANNIT push/throw properly and I often get punished so i ended up avoiding it. Watching two different players could look vastly different. I watched a guy running around room, sweeping througho tables and tossing every trash in enemies and it was awesome. It is completely different to how I fight which is calm and methodic. It's so fucking cool
I've watched many Sifu tips and tricks videos, and this one is by far the best. All the others just reiterate game mechanics but you take it a step further and demonstrate how the mechanics interact, along with great boss suggestions and what to expect from enemies. I actually learned something from you, unlike all the others. Now im gonna go try to kill the botanist again, deathless this time
Great video - I have owned SIFU for a while now, didn’t like it and quit, deleted it, and I’ve downloaded and deleted it several times. But I always think about it. I did the same thing with Hades but when I committed to sitting down, learning it and getting good, it’s become one of my favorite games ever made. Using this video I’ve started to rlly be able to appreciate SIFU and now I feel like I’m playing it the way it’s meant to be played. That is awesome and 100% because of your great work here. Thanks and keep it up!
Ok, I have one insight on the skills for those who wish to get perma unlocks before finishing the game. You can grind a lvl (let's say squats) upto the last shrine, put your exp into a skill (let's say I put 2500 exp into weapon catch 5 times) to permanently unlock it. The best part is even if you PARTIALY UNLOCK a chonky skill like environmental mastery upto lvl 3 and then restart the hideout, guess what? You WILL HAVE IT PARTIALLY UNLOCKED in the subsequent run, you can't use it until you take the skill again in the shrines or death screen but it will be there. So, if you want to; you can grind out and permanently unlock specific 2 or 3 fundamental skills before you start the boss. It really helped my run because i started new game as master and got my ass handed to me, but after all these grind runs not only I have great moves to use on the enemies but also great insight into the enemy's moves and patterns. I thank you for attending my ted talk and here's a potato for the wall of text.
i am at first stage with bamboo boss and if i died 1x can i do it more time ,master it and go to club as 20yo? and does my permanent and non perma skills keep?
@@ciganmore501 don't die, quit out. Then go to the hideout and restart the level. In bossrooms giving up after dying sometimes resets skills, this way you keep your skills.
i just started this game and completed my first playthrough, i started on middle difficulty but changed to beginner after the first level, definitely made it easier. but damn the bosses, just tiring and tbh even boring.. i was so mad about the game not teaching me anything. this guide seems so helpful i wish i wouldve watched it before playing.. thank you so much!
Play through the first mission like 10 times. When playing max out ability after ability and unlock as many perms as you can before moving to the second. This tactic helped me not only become powerful as fuck by chapter 2 but it also helped me stay young cause i eventually was able to pass chapter 1 without losing a life.
Bro thank you so much for this video. Idk why game companies no longer provide video game booklets inside the game case anymore, its definitely needed for games like this
I was like okay this game is not your typical technical combat game. I need a TH-cam video. wow!!! what a great game This is fantastic I can't believe we don't see more like this The whole setup is just awesome I'm really enjoying it in this video with this amazingly good at explaining how it all works This game is a freaking diamond in the rough why do we not see more like this?
This video is AMAZING!!! Here I thought all the combo directions were always down/up when in reality they are away/towards the enemy. No wonder they weren’t working for me half the time! Why doesn’t the game explain this!?! Unless I missed it… but I’m pretty sure this is never mentioned. Thank you for all of your tips and advice. This game is excellent!!! 🔥
@@ThePhoenixEffect you're welcome. I have more Sifu videos too. As for why they didn't explain it that way, it's cause things just slip by you in game development. Something doesn't occur to you to explain it that way and it just ends up that way.
I just picked up this game from PSN and man, it’s hard to out stuff. Why doesn’t it tell you what basic combos are? How do you even select the focus thing? How do you hit an enemy when they fall down? How do you duck? Basic stuff not easily figured out when you have to just start button mashing to try to panic survive. I’ll have to revisit this video once or twice.
when I watch videos like this i couldn't help it wondering people like you should spend their time on much more important things like saving the world. this was a compliment JIC.
THE BEST Guide! U'VE SAVED MY LIFE! I've beaten elder ring, wo long and Sekiro. I thought i could beat this game easily. But this game frustrates me so hard. And I was about to give up. This game became more fun and easier after watching ur guide!
I just picked up Sifu the other day on Switch, and got obliterated during the first hour of playing. I found your video explaining the game mechanics and you did an amazing job man. Being able to understand the game mechanics the way you did made me appreciate the game design and difficulty a lot more despite all the flaws you pointed out in other videos. Cheers!
Chasing strikes is my favourite move. To do it u need to make your enemy tired like he doesnt move and u can finish him. Directional Throw him and press light attack. Hope this helps!
I’m really hyped that just dropped on the PlayStation for free, but feel very discouraged on the difficulty level watching this video and my love for rougelites Has given me the enthusiasm to pursue in becoming sifu Great video
I beat the game, but I feel like I’ve learned so much from this that I want to get back in it and play again. Maybe that’s what slocap wants. Weird approach but maybe good?
Thanks for your vids. I had trouble with the third boss’ first phase but I finally got her. Im definitely redoing that fight since she got my dying multiple times. I just started yeaterday and so far have a good record, finishing warehouse and club at 20yo.
Yeah it's been so interesting to see how many people needed didn't notice, or especially how many people didn't understand the difference between down-up and back-forward.
Awesome! I’m a huge fan of the game I beat it once but got my ass handed to me on a number of occasions, as a guy who is trying to get into fighting games mainly Tekken 8, I found a list of non fighting games you can play to help you sharpen your fighting game skills on the gamer’s website and one of those titles was Sifu mostly to help with my patience and sharpening my defensive skills in video games which obviously, is very important for any type of fighting game out there including Tekken 8.

Also, something I haven't seen anyone mention yet: The editing on this video is great! Really helps accentuate your points and fully elucidates the concepts as you're explaining them. Great job pal.
Thanks! I'm so glad this video has gone on to serve its intended purpose as a long term legacy guide.
Glad it helped!
Also I’ll play Sifu when I get home and give your video a couple more views
great video man I watch the full video.
I really had fun watching this
This guide is super helpful. Just got this as a deal and wanted to play it forever. Was having a ton of trouble trying to parry everything. So much more enjoyable to avoid like you noted.
This is just excellent -- by far the clearest, most in-depth Sifu guide I've ever seen -- and I've seen dozens.
This one is the all in one tip guide, I had to watch like 5-10 videos to get just the information from this one video. Good job and thanks man.
Thanks! I did one for Streets Of Rage 4 if you wanna get into it.
This is the only video that has actually helped me. Everyone always says parry, block. But, I'm in free range practice now just playing against some of the enemies and the dodge is helping so much. I can stop focusing on trying to hit them, and understand the patterns.
i was just about to start this game! just downloaded it a few days ago and was going to start this weekend
@@freemank8207 Thanks for the advice, yes that sounds pretty irritating. My englisch is pretty sloppy.
I literally watched half this video and then cleared the first two bosses under age 25. Barely got through the first ten minutes last night
Amazing Guide, I went from age 30 in the first stage to age 22 in 2 tries.
Thanks a lot !
Super helpful
The game doesn’t bother to tell you all the stuff you have complied
I just started the game yesterday and was sucking so bad at it
😃
Thanks to your video I will soon become a Shaolin monk 😃
Thank you really much for putting that much effort into these videos. I started playing the game some days ago and this is really helpful :)
This is brilliant, changed the game for me.
This is some of the best communication and some of the best info. The quality of this video is top-notch. I'll give you a like and sub for this, why not, great job.
Thanks! I just did one this year for Streets Of Rage 4.
I watched the Sifu secret level episode, saw it was on sale and now I’m here, years later lol! Thanks for all this info!
Personally my GOTY for 2022
The combat is one of a kind, so dynamic, every play-through is a unique experience. The slow feeling of getting good is immensely satisfying. But goddamn master is a humbling experience after you already got Disciple mode by the balls
Also shoutout to UTM for making these videos.
I picked up sifu on your recommendation, great game
Not to brag but I beat sifu without ever intentionally using throw.....mainly because I never could figure it out. Sifu is a great game and one of my all time favorites. Really any game that does something new is so refreshing that they stand out, games need to get out of being stroll playing games
Yeah same, it’s not really that important of a move
Thank you. I actually have teaching experience. Check back soon for a similar guide to Streets of rage 4
Struggled with this game since release, found your guide extremely useful as I fancied it the other day, thanks a bunch!
I've watched many Sifu tips and tricks videos, and this one is by far the best. All the others just reiterate game mechanics but you take it a step further and demonstrate how the mechanics interact, along with great boss suggestions and what to expect from enemies. I actually learned something from you, unlike all the others. Now im gonna go try to kill the botanist again, deathless this time
Thanks so much. I'm doing the same style guide for streets of rage 4 in a couple weeks give that a shot.
Thank you! I'm so glad this video has gone on to do what I hoped it would.
This guide is so well thought out and articulated it is insane. You really opened my eyes. Liked and subscibed thank you!
I thank you for attending my ted talk and here's a potato for the wall of text.
it would be nice to understand
i am at first stage with bamboo boss and if i died 1x can i do it more time ,master it and go to club as 20yo? and does my permanent and non perma skills keep?
@@ciganmore501 don't die, quit out. Then go to the hideout and restart the level. In bossrooms giving up after dying sometimes resets skills, this way you keep your skills.
@@rzr0015 isnt quit out and giving up same?
i just started this game and completed my first playthrough, i started on middle difficulty but changed to beginner after the first level, definitely made it easier. but damn the bosses, just tiring and tbh even boring.. i was so mad about the game not teaching me anything. this guide seems so helpful i wish i wouldve watched it before playing.. thank you so much!
This guide saved me so much time and frustration. Can enjoy the game now.
This video is amazing. I started the game yesterday, but after this video i think of the games combat very diffrent. Thanks a lot man
Wow awesome explanation mate. Thank you so much you have mastered at this. Top notch
Saved to watch later for when I get my hands on the game. Thank you!
Best guides out there, simple but effective. Repetition is key to mastery.
Some types of games just resonate differently. You never know what's gonna give you trouble.
Find your video the day MS announced this for Game Pass. I feel now confident enough to give the game a try. Great editing and explanations by the way
Well done. Hope this will help me get through the 2nd set of dlc arenas.
You came in clutch after the game pass release
I'm happy to see this guide have a strong life.
Phenomenal guide, great help to enjoy this beautiful game, thank you!
After 2 hours of dying in the first or second club fight I watched this and beat Sean on my next try
That's what I like to hear.
This is amazing man thank you so much
I switched left joy stick to dpad, great for combos but movement is slower. This is the best guide I’ve seen.
Thank you! Doing one for streets of rage 4 in a few weeks.
I don't even play Sifu... But I watch every Mayo video!
Just got sifu.. im not bad at it, but this stuff is game changing. thx for the vid! quality info. I had no idea about the reverse inputs.
Yeah it's been so interesting to see how many people needed didn't notice, or especially how many people didn't understand the difference between down-up and back-forward.
12:43 Someone might have said this, but if you takedown those enemies on the ground they will be down for good instead of buffing up.
No, they will avoid the ground takedowns too.
Oh yeah! Using these tips I managed to fare extremely well against the first boss!
Just in time. I actually bought the game because it's on your videos. Just the video I need 🙏
Really great & detailed video! :D
Fantastic guide. Thank you!!
Just picked up this game for free! Thanks for the tips, having a blast!
I fucking love how you describe and put everything together new sub after that great information
Damn Mayo, I just beat the game yesterday after picking it up 3 days ago. Slightly too late, still going to watch it anyways.
You may find something here to make a replay more enjoyable.
Thanks man. I played for 2 hours and gave up. I found your video today and it helped immensely
Coming to this after the xbox release. Such a clutch video to watch.
Sifu was recently available for a neat Christmas deal on Epic.
Just picked this game up. Much thanks
You made it for ME. Thanks I just started playing. Lol. Game this game hits hard.
This video is super helpful. Amazing! This game is difficult but super fun.
