This was one of the big 3 Superhero genre games back in the 80s-90s. Alongside Mayfair's excellent 'DC HEROES' game and the super crunchy 'Champions/HERO system' these three were pretty much the go-to games for superhero action. There was also 'SuperWorld' which ran on the BRP (Call of Cthulhu RPG) system and GURPS Supers, Villains & Vigilantes and a few others. I remember MSH released an absolutely HUGE loose-leaf supplement that detailed just about every hero & villain in Marvel at the time...complete with game stats.
I remember Champions, Villains and Vigilantes and DC Heroes, but Superworld is a new one to me. Will have to check it out. They released so much stuff for MSH, and although I've only seen some of it, what I have was all excellent.
@@RPGGamer SuperWorld was a BRP system (the same system as Call of Cthulhu). Its main claim to fame is that George R.R. Martin's Sante Fe Gaming Group played a long standing SuperWorld campaign that eventually became serialized as the Wildcards anthology book series.
I dug this out a few weeks ago. I have not played this since I was a kid back in 1984. I got the Secret Wars 1 and 2, and Gates of What If? modules also. Rereading them now as an adult. Brings back such good memories.
Funny that, now that I've seen this video, I can see that the new Marvel RPG (Marvel Multiverse) took some inspirations from this game. The Attributes forming (even if not intended to be) an acronym, power ranks, Karma...
@@RPGGamer I watched an actual play session with the Glass Cannon guys. Seemed fun! The basic dice system seems to work well enough. I just don't know about the rest of the system (namely, the Traits and Powers).
With great responsibility comes great power, that is why i'm Powerless! : ) Marvel Superheroes was such a fun system! As a Shadowrun fan says "No Corp is the best Corp! #Sinless"
Machine Man was a favorite of mine as well, he doesn't get enough love. As for this game, my friends and I needing a break from Dungeons & Dragons, started playing this back in the day and we absolutely loved it. The Secret Wars adventure module which came out later was really fun. Brings back alot of memories...
Much respect for the mutual love of Machine Man. I played it back in the late 80's as one of the guys in my group is a massive superhero fan, so as soon as he got to GM, he pulled out MSH.
Marvel super heroes showing no favoritism feels alien compared to Disney era Marvel. Disney downplays any superhero teams that aren't the avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. For a number of years, they tried to replace the X-men with the inhumans and failed. They were successful in replacing The Fantastic Four as the main cosmic team.
Been a while since I followed what's going on in the comics rather than just the movies, but loved them in the 90's. So it always surprises me when I see the changes to various teams and characters.

Going back over these rules after so many years really did bring out the nostalgia in me, really fun game, with so many great supplements.
First rpg I ever played in ‘89. Great to see that cover again
The cover brought back so many memories to me. Looks so bright and fresh even now.

The designers have said the acronym is intentional lol. Its kinda cheesy but I like it anyway.
@@Nezzeraj Wha-- FASERIP is intentional?
I'm hearing good things about Marvel Multiverse, but haven't had a look myself.

I love the fact it balances the rules while allowing the GM such freedom, great game.

Could you imagine if modern day Iron Man had roller skates pop out of his boots to roll around in? The fans would lose their minds.
And it would be hilarious.
terrific flip through. thanks for creating this video.
My absolute pleasure, and many thanks for the kind words.
