I'm so glad to see comments like this, as I really appreciate knowing I'm not the only one to find his views absolutely abhorrent.

I very much agree, but very good to know that I'm not alone in my thoughts.

In France we had a kind of "moral panic" against the roleplaying games in early 90's, it was not specificaly against D&D but all ttrpg as D&D was never as important as it is in the US (CoC or Warhammer were huge here). What's interesting is the moral panic cultural difference here it was not a religious one as France was already by far dechristianized so you cant be afraid of your kid bacame satanist if you dont believe in satan. It was mostly a TV show subject after a teenager suicide (with his father's gun) and the family on TV blamed the rpg, at the same time there was a profanation in a cemetery where some Larp players were by mistake accused of desacrating a tomb (the perpatrators were far right idiots). So in a few time many assocations lost their place to play in city commodities, parents were frightened their kids will suicide and other stupid stuff...

Here in the UK there wasn't really any satanic or moral panic over RPG's. There was a general attitude of people considering us childish for still playing games in our teenage years, when obviously we should have grown up to play or watch football instead. So that was the start of this series for me, as it's a look into a world totally different to the one I experienced.
Thanks for the information about the situation in France, fascinating to hear.

@@RPGGamer I think the stigma of "TTRPG is for kids" is still there, even if now it's much more accepted since a lot of people have seen celebrities play D&D online since 2020.

Yep, I remember seeing an advert in Dragon magazine for that Dragonraid Christian RPG. I never tried to buy it because it seems so limiting, compared with the (A)D&D rule sets, in which players and DMs can do Christian things (e.g. play a paladin or cleric devoted to a Christian-style god), while also allowing others to play other non-Christian type characters, such as assassins and wizards.
I was about to include demihuman characters as examples of non-Christian options, but they were in Lord of the Rings, which was written by a Christian. So were wizards, come to think of it.
What I feel bored of in Christian games is being railroaded into being goodies going on quests to save the world from evil, like in Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance (and Narnia stories, IIRC?)…. I like the freedom to simply explore, search for treasure, gain power as a magic user, work toward building a stronghold, etc..

One of the reactions to the Satanic Panic by TSR was to rename demons and devils. But I've heard there was discussion of this from much earlier that why would Elves and Dwarves worry about christian things like demons, so some of the creators think that the game should have made up an entire classification of this type of monster for themselves. Which I do think makes a lot of sense.
Ron's ideas for Christian games does remind me a lot of Dogs in the Vineyard, where the players had to root out the causes of the demonic manifestations causing problems in the settlements they visited, whether it was from lust, greed, etc. Which I do think is pretty interesting and could be a lot of fun (not only do you have to defeat the demons, but you have to investigate the cause or more will just pop up as soon as you leave).

I am a lapsed Roman Catholic who believes there is a deity. I don't know what that god's name is due to never dying. Whenever someone speaks of religion with certainty I am sure they are at least 1 percent wrong. So when Ron dies and comes back from the dead a few days later I will believe him. Until then it's just his opinion.

I've mentioned in some of my previous videos, that one of the guys in my gaming group is a retired Bishop. He ran D&D within his church for kids, and never saw any kind of problem with it. So people like Ron are definitely the aberration, rather than the norm.

People's knowledge of all this stuff would increase 10000 fold if they bothered reading God's word in the bible at least once. Why there's been massive bible burning in random places and times should give you a hint.
