    Thank you for sharing these interesting videos. As a small correction; The metal film under the roof tiles is an attempt to reduce heat in the form of infrared radiation, and not ultraviolet radiation. The tiles will absorb much of the electromagnetic spectrum of the sun in the form of heat, and heat will leave the tiles in the form of infrared radiation. In my country up here in northern europe, we always have a secondary roof under roof-tiles, since we dont consider tiles to be a perfect roof under stormy conditions. For the secondary roof under the tiles, we often use non-UV resistant asphalt shingles. The metallic film used under your tiles is probably more important to stop leaks than to stop heat.

    thanks for the video, great details and explanations. An easy and steady progress made this week....yes the rain does delay alot exp with access. But very well handled and all is looking great. Good to see the light brown roof tiles instead of the black. Its so common to see house here in thailand that look identical to the next. 50 shades of grey!!!!!!! so once again, thank you for the details and info.
    cheers

    Good video. Showed the roofing process and the materials used very clearly.
    Here in the UK it is typical that only every third row of tiles are fixed down. Obviously there are exceptions but that is standard practice (cue a billion comments from roofers that do it differently!!)

      @@StephenWestrip appreaciate the feedback. Always a challenge creating videos as an amature & hobby. Learning as I go. Hope the roof holds out for many years.

      @@RetiredTranquilinThailand as long as it does its job and, as my 87yo father likes to say these days, it’s “see you out” it has done what was intended.

    The roof foil under tiles acts like a sarking or is sarking, not just heat reflection but if you get a roof leak from broken or cracked tile water should run down on top of the foil over the facia...

      Thanks - yes correct; it is probably most beneficial for help with managing any rain leaks. cheers

      It also doesn't reflect any heat because it's in contact with the tiles. It's supposed to go under the purlins to create an airspace. No point.

    You should get insulation under the tiles as well to stop heat

    • @RetiredTranquilinThailand
      @RetiredTranquilinThailand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The insulation will go over the ceiling, not under the tiles as there is large roof cavity. 150 mm SCG stay cool will be laid down on the ceiling to protect the roof heat from the house. The roof space has 4 gable vents to allow air to flow and vents around the eaves of the house as well to create air movement in the roof space.

    How are they getting in fresh air under the roof and venting the hot air out?

    • @RetiredTranquilinThailand
      @RetiredTranquilinThailand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are 4 gable openings in the roof (one's that currently open). They will have gable vents in them so the air can move freely in the roof cavity. One on each of NSEW faces of the house. In terms other air entry points there are numerous air vents around the eaves of the house (where the roof meets the walls). So air can come in at the eaves and exit/enter through the gable vents. Common method in these parts. The ceiling of the house will have 150 mm SCG stay cool thermal insulation installed to protect the ceiling/interior from the roof cavity heat. This combination with balcony to keep sun off the walls will provide a solution to manage heat the best we can.

    May I ask how big is the plot of land the house is on? Or how many sqm is it? Also starting to look like a house for ya

      @RetiredTranquilinThailand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@redfan80 The land is 3.5 Rai. House is 166 sq + covered porches 68 sq m = 234 sq meters.
