  • In this video I diagnosis and fix my mistake that caused a high idle issue on my 1975 Chevy C10 with the factory quadrajet carburetor.
In a previous video I went through the carb and did some minor cleaning and replaced the gaskets... and ended up messing with the secondary throttle blades. After reinstalling the carb and with new intake manifold gaskets, the engine had a high idle that wouldn't go away.
It sure helps to diagnosis carb issues with a working carb nearby :)

Success! I wonder, though… What did you do to close up the secondaries? Did you move the butterflies from side to side? Did you somehow add material to the butterfly valves to seal them up? Did you adjust a screw someplace? As always, it’s great to see your progress on this truck! Aloha!

Should have shown it on camera rather than briefly mention it at the end, but because I replaced the screws with oversized screws, I had to oval out the hole they go into on the secondary blades to provide it some wiggle room like it would have from the factory with factory sized screws.

@@bluesxt Silly me! I was actually looking at the throttle blades and bores and the light that was shining through them, lol! I failed to look at the screw holes and didn’t catch the oversized screws part. Live and learn! Mahalo!

i just bought an 84 squarebody with a 350 and i dunno a single thing abt carb motors but it idles high. will die if you close the choke

definitely check for vacuum leaks. but since it dies when you close the choke, try adjusting your idle speed screws. If your cold start fast idle is too high, adjust the high idle speed screw, and if your warm idle is too high (once the choke fully opens and disengages), then adjust the warm idle speed screw
