- 3+ weeks and I've finally found the source of my stuck high idle on my new quadrajet. turns out it wasnt the heat riser assembly or the choke assembly, but the secondary vacuum break that pulls back the linkage for the high idle cam. hooking the new carb up the way the old one was from the factory doesn't cut it guys, you need to have that vacuum break hooked up to the constant vacuum source on the back of the carb, next to the threaded port. hopefully this video saves someone else the time and effort it took me to figure this out
Great video! If there is a will there is a way and you are determined you will find the problem just dont give up and you showed that to us thank you good job. Dern simplest things can cost you a ton of money.

The TVS module within the air cleaner is supposed to only have 2 connections at least on a 77, mine goes from the secondary vacuum break > TVS inside air cleaner > vacuum behind carb. The point is that it gets the hot air from the manifold via the tube that also connects to the air cleaner and once that gets to operating temp it will send a vacuum to the secondary vacuum break thus kicking down the high idle. That is if everything is working correctly. My TVS however fell out of the air cleaner and won't stay in, this is why my high idle never quit.

Fast idle screw adjusment screw on left side that hits cam turn right idle increases left it decreases. there are videos on you tube for this situation.
I have a similar problem but on an older quadrajet from the 60s without the heat riser assembly on the carb. Suspect it's something to do with vacuum because when I blip the throttle, it comes off fast idle but the car starts running rough like too much choke and I turn the car completely off and restart and it's normal.
On carbs with electric choke, once the electric choke heats up, it will unlock the high idle.
Having the same issue on my 84 regal. Seems the rear vacuum break isn’t hooked up to anything

In case you haven't seen my more recent videos, I'd highly recommend you don't buy a reman carb from the same company. I've been having quite a few issues with mine lately
damn this just happened to me lol, i took it to a shop and got it rebuilt but next day on cold start idle was stuck like this.

I believe you're referring to the secondary choke pulloff in front of the choke housing? That controls how far the secondary choke plates open on the 4 barrel part of the carb. When the engine is cold, the linkage won't allow them to open to avoid a lean condition. The spring is used to adjust the point at which it allows them to open. I'd suggest leaving it alone, as messing with that stuff often does more harm than good

Nope the rear vacuum break is not designed to fully open the choke nor drop the fast idle cam. What would happen at wide open throttle? The choke could come back on due to lack of vacuum. That vacuum break is obviously miss adjusted. I think your problem is that the choke is set too rich and not opening fully. Or it is not getting heated properly and not opening fast enough or fully. Is your heat riser valve working properly? Or maybe the exhaust cross over in the intake could be plugged
Mine old one just started doing this today. It doesn't have that setup though. Weird. It worked perfectly fine without it but now having this issue. It idles at 1400 rpms warmed up with open choke.
