Thank you, worked perfectly on my Star Wars Arcade Trilogy Mod Arcade 1 up, using Big Box to organize my games, kids love it. Really love your videos, very well done, clear and concise.
Thanks! One of the easiest to follow tutorials I've ever seen. Thanks for explaining it in a way that doesn't assume we know some steps along the way and tells it all.
I have searched on TH-cam for tutorials for setting up MAME successfully, could hardly find anything, until I found this link. What an excellent video, explained clearly every step of the way. This is how it should be done.
Great tutorial. Helped me set my old classics. Lots of tutorials in this channel and all works like a charm. I'm extremely happy revisiting some memories.
Thank you! I spent two days trying to add Mame to a different system I already have. I just couldn’t sort it out. Followed this tutorial and had everything importing in less than half an hour. Tomorrow morning I set up the dolphin bar and start with the pew pew. You are a legend! Thank you.
Thanks ETA PRIME! Your videos always are so helpful. I've built many RetroPie setups for friends and family with your videos! And now looks like I can finally set LaunchBox on my PC. Will be perfect for my arcade build I'm working on! Thank you!
Lots of folks (myself included) waiting to see tutorials from you on how to update their romsts (0.196 to 0.197, etc.), as well as how to take a romset like this 62 gb version you're using and just keep 100-200 games to play & be able to delete the rest from thier computer to save a lot of space...
My bank account isn't happy, but you continue to provide golden content. My wife doesn't approve me watching your channel anymore...God bless my lunch break at work 👍
🤣🤣🤣 Did she give you an ultimatum? "Either it's me or ETA PRIME!!" So is it considered cheating since your seeing ETA on your break at work? Is your marriage worth it? OH THE DRAMA!!!
Some versions of mame seem to come with various video filtering options. I recently set up mameui 64-bit version of 0.201 and there don't seem to be many options. Games seemed a little blurry or too 'smoothed', well it's because in the direct3d section 'Use Bilinear filtering' was automatically checked. As soon as I unchecked that and started a game again, I got my preferred 'sharp' pixels.
oh, dude that would be to cool. i use 4 versions of mame to play all my games i want to and have chd and bios files loaded in them all. do they transfer over to launchbox automatically when u upload mame??
To anyone having the problem where you see the "Initializing" screen and nothing happens, make sure you put your roms exactly where ETA tells you. inside the "roms" folder inside the mame emulator folder.
What a lovely video with excellent and clear commentary! I'm only slightly anxious that it won't work or something will be wrong after it imports the games and meta data, but I'll find out in the morning... Thanks so much
What I did is to add my Mame emulator to run already tested games working with that version and It worked! As import brings many games my handpicked set does not have or that I will not be playing
I found a MASSIVE MAME set on archive.org, but in the main zip file was all type ".7z" game folders instead of ".zip". I figured these were the same, but found that the games will not load. I had to extract the folders from the .7z. Then ZIP the folders to make them ".zip" . Ordinarily not a big issue, but the archive I downloaded was over 12,000 games. I don't even know where to begin to pair these down. Too many games is a good problem to have though!
I can't seem to add any new games to my mame after coming back to it about 6 months later. All the games i added previously work, now it seems like the roms aren't working anywhere.
Great video as always ETA, as it seems recommended to skip some games when setting up Mame, and the Mame games filenames seem well known, would it be possible to have a cleanup feature after setup to delete games that are not being used with launchbox.
So this is something I’m looking into now. A simple bat file might be able to weed out all the unused games but finding one or making one might be a pain
I'm so confused, does it default to all those games it has to scrape? When I select a folder with ROMs in it that only have a handful, it shows hundreds on the list..
Thanks for the video. I built my own cabinet and downloaded launch box and loaded MAME. But I am having an issue where my joysticks are switching between player 1 and player 2. Do you know how to assign the joystick and buttons so they don't swap? I have 2 separate encoders.
I like to make the "roms" directory under the MAME directory be a symlink to the directory my BitTorrent client dropped all the ROMs into. Seems cleaner to me somehow.
I'd really like a tutorial on how to get mame working in launchbox via retroarch, I really like being able to use shaders and overlays, especially for arcade since there's a huge amount of game-specific bezels/overlays out there to make the experience more authentic. However, i've not been able to get any of my arcade games to launch from launch box.. they just freeze before the game boots. And if I use fireburn alpha as a core instead they just flat out won't launch, the window comes up and immediately closes... except for some reason, Gradius Launches with the mame core... just Gradius... not sure why. All the games launch fine in stand-alone retroarch. But not through launchbox. Can't find any helpful info on this anywhere. PS: Great videos btw. You're the reason I got launchbox when I was struggling with getting my retropie to stop freezing so often.
I followed your pass retropie video and made my arcade possible thanks to you. I always wanted a PC version but it seems difficult for me won't even know where to start I don't do any gaming on PC and due to having two kids I have no room for a tower. But I really want to play all Mortal Kombat ,killer instinct and Virtua Fighter's with no issues. Is there a mini computer/ affordable alternative would like to use the same joysticks I have for the retropie USB
Mine has an issue where it will launch the incorrect revision for a game. For example, the 1942 from I have only have revision A, but launchbox only wants to launch revision B so I always get missing file errors. Why doesn't it see that I do not have any other revision?
Great video ETA PRIME. I have started building an arcade machine and I was going use Hyperspin for the front end but have run into screen tearing issues on some games. The odd part is the games will run fine directly out of MAME but start to tear in Hyperspin. One game I am having an issue with is Ninja Turtles, I was thinking switching the front end to BigBox but now I see the same screen tear occuring in Ninja Turtles at the 13:08 mark in your video. Do you know of a way to correct this?
Love the tutorials. Thanks for all the hard work. Will you be doing a tutorial on how to set up Technoparrot on launch box? And what computer specs will be needed to run Technoparrot roms with out issues? I currently have the emulator on a 2 TB external seagate drive with a few roms. A couple of games run good but the games I wanted to play I am having issues with. Aliens Extinction seems to be on fast forward loop.

Thank you for the amazing video, as usual. One question though: what is the point in using MAME when you can use Retroarch with the MAME core. It seems to be a much better solution as you can then use all the Retroarch features. No?
Worked great!!!! Thanks for the video. One question though if you want to add a single rom to the already inputted folder how do you go about adding that?
I need help please. I'm very new to all this. I follow the instructions and it worked just fine. Accept for some games, I double click them to start but it quickly opens up and closes right away. How can I fix that?
This is great, thanks for the video, so wanted to find an easy to use frontend to make setup easy. Does this work the same for different emulators too, playstation for example?
I have a question. I'm watching a hyper spin video to see all of the emulators maybe or types of arcades out there. I'm going to do this tutorial. But does MAME cover all the different arcades company types that are out there. Like does Mame cover the old Capcom games, and mortal combat games, Pacman and the old king of fighter games. Or is there other emulators needed for these certain games?
ETA says it's easy to find MAME rom sets on Inernet, well, not for me. I've done a lot of research and the better I could find (from a link that actually works) was a 0.151 version pack. Does anyone know where I can get a newer pack??
Hi ETA Prime. Thank you for the best videos on the subject. I have a question about how to undo mistakes in Inputting my joystick (a HORI VEWLIX arcade stick). I do your typical tab, General Input, and mapping of my controller buttons. But I made a mistake on the button assigning. I find it impossible to undo the mistake. I try to reassign it but it just wants to add the previous button assigned with the new button. So I try to delete the rom and redeploy the rom in the folder. It keeps insisting on that button that I had mistakenly assigned. Is there a way just to start all over and return the default buttons, so I can do it over again?
I have 20+ consoles perfectly configure on LaunchBox/BigBox but i have this problem: -Roms are ok, images and videos for every arcade roms are ok and they all work with my Mame version. LaunchBox recognize those roms just fine but when i choose to run a game it doesnt lunch. Instead Mame is open. How can i solve this?
Just completed this tutorial and still works great however, I was unable to get any CPS-3 games going... any chance you can walk us through that part? Pretty much any other game I tested works fine though.
Anyone know what would generally be considered minimum CPU/RAM specs to run this well on Windows, for purpose of a old Arcade games? I don't have much desire to do home console emulation, just the 80's/90's classic arcade games.
so i have a .214 set with 35000+ files but like you, when i filter then i only get 2500+ games, which obviously is what I want, but is there anyway to clean up the unnecessary files? I mean 32500+ unused files takes up alot of space
Yeah I’m not even going to try Hyperspin, seems to complex for a noob like me. I’m a big Midway fan, if I want games like Blitz & MK 4 what pc specs do I need to get these games running good?
Just about to build my first PC mainly for emulation so my question is how do you figure out or what are some determining factors to make sure your downloading safe files and stuff
HI i have a question regarding the Mame Wizards "Skip games" setting. Is there a way to add these seperately afterwards through the wizard in case i feel like i shouldnt have chosen to skip them ? For example the prototypes one might actually be good to have as i have noticed over the years that some prototype games for SNES/NES roms are actually very playable and enjoyable. For now though i do want to go with the recommended setting of skipping all of these choices.
Its not easy is it...search for 0.209 ROMs on archive. Click on the link that spells out MAME in blue letters and I then click the zip file. I used the merged one since that was the only set I could find. its about 64 gigs and took 2 days to download...longer than it should have taken. Then follow eta's guide here and most of the games should work. I still haven't figured out the stinking CHD's yet...
You should go to archive.org and download two files from your favorite game ( for example my favorite game is Twinkle Star Sprites ) then when u open a game, you will see a list of downloading files on the right, choose ONLY two files to download ( my favorite game has two files called : neogeo and twinkspri ) then download them! After all, u have to copy both of these ones to " roms " folder in "MAMEUi64 " folder, then EXTRACT ONLY file "neogeo" in " roms " folder. Then u just back to MAME emulator or Launchbox emulator to insect the roms of game and play it, it will work by the way! I tried it and successfully! You can contact me more on here if u need to ask more questions, my friend!🙂😃💖💖💖💖
Especially one thing that AFTER OPEN THE GAME INSIDE, WHEN U WANT TO START GAME BY COINS ( I MEAN START GAME ), you have to TURN OFF UNIKEY by click " end " button on it, then u can press the button in game, this is what I found when I couldn't play it before, so turn off the Unikey will START the game.
Hey Prime Thanks for the tutorial very easy to follow it’s a great interface. I have an issue with some games that will not start from launch box.All ROMs I down loaded are working in MAME but when I launch some through launch box screen goes to initialising for a couple of seconds then goes back to launch box main screen. I have reinstall MAME and launch box but still same issue any ideas?
I've just followed your great tutorial and while waiting for everything to download I have purchased a launchbox premium account. Is there a simple way of creating the playlists after importing everything? The option I wanted to do so was greyed out first time around due to having a free version of launchbox.
great vidoes brother. question...do my chd and bios files automatically transfer into launchbox when i upload my mame emulator. is there a way to load chd/bios directly into launchbox or u have to them in mame??? for example: cal speed and gauntlet legends require chd's and work perfectly in launchbox. then games like cruis'n usa/world don't work now when normally do. any thoughts?
Thanks for the video ETA PRIME. I have an ASROCK a310 mini PC with an i5-8400 CPU. I installed Launchbox but unfortunately MAME isn’t working. It starts for 2 seconds and then shuts down. Anything you can help with would be appreciated. Thanks!
Great video and everything. Followed everything step by step. Only one problem is that the capcom games shut down after selecting them to play. What could be the cause of that?
thanks for the video.. one question though... what about Software Lists in Mame? I use mameUI, but it only has 72 bios, no snes, no n64, no dc, no vgmplay, and a long etc. Does LB support SL? If so, how? My roms folder has a lot of subfolders (standard, neogeo_bios, dc, n64, taito, etc.). I'd appreciate if You made a more complex video-tutorial, using software lists on mame. Also what about samples&CHDs? Thanks a bunch!
So I know I only got five games and my ROMs folder but the final list showed over a hundred games in launch box, will I get those games after it's done downloading images?
i have problems trying to play a game an error apper seys that need elevation , also when i was imported the mame games i reallized that only the covers of the games was imported and not the acctual games can uyou tell me why is that???
Setting those 16 buttons on Mame 0128b with Logitech f310 controller has been nerve wrecking, and I still am sorely in need of help :( Can you please tell me which button is for which under a PS2 controller layout?
Great video, you even answered my question about where to place CHD's. One quick question about custom themes. I'm running Launchbox on Win10 and many of the theme files are automatically blocked. Is there an easy work around this instead of manually unblocking each file? Thank you for your help and contribution to the scene!
Great video as always, Because it is so easy to import, is there a way to export roms lists? I'm looking for an easy way to make collection rom lists for mame (i.e. SF Collection) to be used on other frontend platforms
Your split rom set is about 62 gigs. Once all the importing is done (including all art and videos) how much space does your mame set and all imported files take up? Just wondering because I'm putting together an emulation pc to stick inside a cabinet and was pricing SSDs. Thanks for your content. It is extremely helpful and entertaining.
Have I missed something because once everything is imported the games will not open on my pc? Please help as I have imported and deleted many times, re-watched the video and still nothing
I'm trying to set launchbox or something that has alot of arcade games on my raspberry pi 3. I'm making a arcade cabinet and idk how to put launchbox on my raspberry pi 3. Please help
hey man, thank you so much for this tutorial. but i still cant play other roms like punisher , alien vs. predator and capt america and the avengers. even if i DL all thir rom versions. please help...
I've had mixed results with MAME over the years, but after watching this I'm going to try again.
So glad I got LaunchBox when I did!

what about the ROMS :) Nintendo took care of shutting down the big sites.

Did she give you an ultimatum?
"Either it's me or ETA PRIME!!"
So is it considered cheating since your seeing ETA on your break at work? Is your marriage worth it?
OH THE DRAMA!!!
Some versions of mame seem to come with various video filtering options. I recently set up mameui 64-bit version of 0.201 and there don't seem to be many options. Games seemed a little blurry or too 'smoothed', well it's because in the direct3d section 'Use Bilinear filtering' was automatically checked. As soon as I unchecked that and started a game again, I got my preferred 'sharp' pixels.
Thank you for providing this. Really great information and tutorial.
It would be great if these emulator collections could download all the missing BIOS and ROMs automatically.

Awesome video Mr Prime. Could you please do a guide on how to set up Mame games that require CHD’s?
Corey Winiata I have the same question. Did you find anything Corey?
What a lovely video with excellent and clear commentary! I'm only slightly anxious that it won't work or something will be wrong after it imports the games and meta data, but I'll find out in the morning... Thanks so much

Great video as always, thanks Prime!😎🤙
The ROM set was 62GB, what is the total space taken up after the screenshot, etc. download?
Thank you for the vid and guide.
Great video. Easy to follow and well done.

You can contact me more on here if u need to ask more questions, my friend!🙂😃💖💖💖💖
chrisnam98 can you please help me???
@@loukaskokkinis8809 sure, do u have Skype or Whatsapp?😃
Especially one thing that AFTER OPEN THE GAME INSIDE, WHEN U WANT TO START GAME BY COINS ( I MEAN START GAME ), you have to TURN OFF UNIKEY by click " end " button on it, then u can press the button in game, this is what I found when I couldn't play it before, so turn off the Unikey will START the game.
Hey Prime
Thanks for the tutorial very easy to follow it’s a great interface.
I have an issue with some games that will not start from launch box.All ROMs I down loaded are working in MAME but when I launch some through launch box screen goes to initialising for a couple of seconds then goes back to launch box main screen.
I have reinstall MAME and launch box but still same issue any ideas?
also got a few roms in and when i try starting them, loading reaches about 90% and then stops.
@@peppercock wouldn't waste your time with it
Comparte el mega pack de Mame ? Tienes algún link para las roms Mame con sus caratulas?
I've just followed your great tutorial and while waiting for everything to download I have purchased a launchbox premium account. Is there a simple way of creating the playlists after importing everything? The option I wanted to do so was greyed out first time around due to having a free version of launchbox.
@ETA PRIME
Thanks for the tutorial, I can finally play Arcade games on my laptop. How do I get rid of unused games to save some hard disk space?
great vidoes brother. question...do my chd and bios files automatically transfer into launchbox when i upload my mame emulator. is there a way to load chd/bios directly into launchbox or u have to them in mame??? for example: cal speed and gauntlet legends require chd's and work perfectly in launchbox. then games like cruis'n usa/world don't work now when normally do. any thoughts?
Thanks for the video ETA PRIME. I have an ASROCK a310 mini PC with an i5-8400 CPU. I installed Launchbox but unfortunately MAME isn’t working. It starts for 2 seconds and then shuts down. Anything you can help with would be appreciated. Thanks!
Great video and everything. Followed everything step by step. Only one problem is that the capcom games shut down after selecting them to play. What could be the cause of that?
That means it's the game is using the wrong core. Have to find another core to play that specific game
I can't get it to work, by mistake i installed 0.201 ROMs with 212, i tried to find 0.212 ROMs and i can't find em anywhere.
thanks for the video.. one question though... what about Software Lists in Mame? I use mameUI, but it only has 72 bios, no snes, no n64, no dc, no vgmplay, and a long etc. Does LB support SL? If so, how? My roms folder has a lot of subfolders (standard, neogeo_bios, dc, n64, taito, etc.). I'd appreciate if You made a more complex video-tutorial, using software lists on mame. Also what about samples&CHDs? Thanks a bunch!
This is my next project
Goner have to buy new sdd for this i think
The only thing theres some much filler with the games
So I know I only got five games and my ROMs folder but the final list showed over a hundred games in launch box, will I get those games after it's done downloading images?
Hi ETA Prime, I set it up exactly as you said, and imported a few games, have RetroArch as the emulator SNES. The game appears, but it does not play??
i have problems trying to play a game an error apper seys that need elevation , also when i was imported the mame games i reallized that only the covers of the games was imported and not the acctual games can uyou tell me why is that???
Setting those 16 buttons on Mame 0128b with Logitech f310 controller has been nerve wrecking, and I still am sorely in need of help :(
Can you please tell me which button is for which under a PS2 controller layout?
Great video, you even answered my question about where to place CHD's.
One quick question about custom themes. I'm running Launchbox on Win10 and many of the theme files are automatically blocked.
Is there an easy work around this instead of manually unblocking each file?
Thank you for your help and contribution to the scene!
What about Software Lists?
Great video as always, Because it is so easy to import, is there a way to export roms lists? I'm looking for an easy way to make collection rom lists for mame (i.e. SF Collection) to be used on other frontend platforms
Your split rom set is about 62 gigs. Once all the importing is done (including all art and videos) how much space does your mame set and all imported files take up? Just wondering because I'm putting together an emulation pc to stick inside a cabinet and was pricing SSDs. Thanks for your content. It is extremely helpful and entertaining.
Just made the discovery after cussing this thing that I needed to choose refresh images after downloading them.
