      i am the same. have about a year left til I get my BS in psych. What are you currently thinking about pursuing?

    I appreciate you mentioning the other routes. I’m currently in an clinical mental health counseling program. Ideally I would have loved to have done a clinical psych program. But when I saw where they were only accepting like six people and I had gaps in my undegrad, it did deter me, because in my mind I knew I couldn’t move for school, and couldn’t wait another application cycle and wanted to get things started right away.
    I still love the idea of clincial psych as it allows funding and reduces loans for students. But if one can’t it’s important they weigh their other options. I appreciate this balanced perspective you give. I’m curious to know if you got full funding from your psy D program?
    But thanks Phil either way!

      That's awesome and thanks for your question. My PsyD program was not funded but there were some scholarships/grants that I was able to apply for, so it depends on each program, some may have other ways to offset the financial burden of paying for graduate school through other funding sources if they don't offer stipends/funding in a traditional sense.

    Thank you for that great video! It really clarified a lot of the questions I had before. Is it also possible to apply to a clinical psychology Psy.D. Program after finishing the licensed clinical mental health counselor Master?

      Yes it is! Good question. Always good to also just double check programs website for necessary courses and prerequisites needed for application. Hope that’s helpful

    Hello Phil,
    I have a masters degree in Human Resource and have 11 years of experience in Talent acquisition. I am interested in becoming a therapist. How can I peruse certification to become licensed practitioner

    • @philsguidetopsyd

      Great question! It really depends on where you want to end up. If you live in the U.S., there are state guidelines and requirements by a variety of mental health professionals, whether being a counselor, social worker, or psychologist/psychiatrist. Once you know what type of practioner you want to be you can follow the state guidelines to be licensed. Hope that helps!

    I watched a couple of your videos and it brings so much value information. I have a BA degree in Business Management. And i really interested in being a therapist. So is there any master program in psychology that does not require psychology BA degree ? Im willing to have a premaster class if needed

    • @philsguidetopsyd

      If you're in the U.S. there a lot of masters programs in psychology that don't require a BA psychology degree. There may be a few pre requisite courses that you have to take, so looking on the school websites may be the most helpful, or reaching out to the school directly via email. Hope that helps, best of luck!

    Why is it called "mental health" when it's really an emotional issue?

    • @philsguidetopsyd

      Good question, mental health kind of encompasses not just emotional, but the physiological, medical, spiritual, components that can influence or impact psychological health. That's one way I've heard it described

    • @hanklohan

      @@philsguidetopsyd ok, its a good way to put it. I just get suspicious of the medical industry that is clueless in helping someone become emotionally stable.

    • @rand_-mk5lb

      No disrespect, it's not always an emotional issue only.
