I don't normally leave comments but this was the most informative, understandable, down-to-earth explanation of becoming a licensed mental health counselor not just in Washington but for the whole United States. Definitely helped me understand which route I want to take. Thank you.
Right I’m having to start making graduate school plans and I feel like it is very daunting this just reassured me so much that like I can do this! I agree this video was so informative and easy to process
I enjoyed this video so much. Looking forward to becoming a clinical psych in mental health and counseling. You calmly and thoroughly explained this process and erased my doubts/anxiety. Thank you❤️
i’m currently a psych & sociology double major wanting to pursue my lpc. this video has given me so much clarity to what i’m getting myself into with getting my licensure. thank u so much for making this video
Thank you so much for this! I am beginning this process and feeling so overwhelmed. This is exactly what I needed to know. I appreciate the resources and encouragement so much.
I really appreciate this information. I’m currently in graduate school and I really didn’t have any knowledge of what the next steps were after graduation. This hasn’t been taught in school so I truly appreciate it!
This was so helpful. Thank you for the information. I aspire to be either a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. 💖
I love this video. It's so helpful and the way you talk through this stuff is both helpful and calming. If there's more like this on the channel I'm about to subscribe
I live in Texas going to start school in fall 2023 for mental health counseling plan to work in Texas for 2 years after I finish school then move to Colorado thanks for the info lived in Denver and when I moved I missed it ever since so I plan to move back
Thanks for reporting this. Great video! Question: After completing your degree, successfully passing the exam and attaining your license w/in your state, what other certifications can you obtain with this degree/licensure? Thank you.
I have a double bachelors in psychology & sociology from a New York State university. Graduated magna cum laude. I don’t know where to start to pursue my masters in mental health counseling. It’s def what I feel most fulfilling as a career path with my skill set and genuine want to assist people in the midst of their mental struggles and difficulties. I know I can do it. Just don’t know where to put my first step
Nicole, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I am in Austin and starting a masters in couples and family therapy. I am wondering if you think it’s better to seek to become an LPC or an LMFT.
Does supervisory HAVE to be someone I pay out of my pocket? I see where they charge $500 a month for the 2-3 years doing the clinical hours. I can’t find anyone who addresses this issue.
CACREP accreditation has driven up the cost of counseling degree programs astronomically in the past 20 years while salaries have remained relatively unchanged. A waste IMO though it has now become the standard.
Hey Nicole I have just graduated with my Bachelors in Social Work but I want to become a Mental Health Therapist so what Masters Degree should I pursue?! PLEASE HELP ME! I’m struggling Thank You!
i am currently an English teacher in China and am considering Mental Health Counseling ... I have a B.A. can I get a masters online to qualify? thank you
I’m from the USA originally but I’ve been living in Australia and Europe for the last 6-7 years. I’m wanting to do a grad cert in counselling but if/when I move again I know I’ll have to jump through a bunch of hoops to be certified wherever I go next. Does anyone have any recommendations for a gal with itchy feet trying to get going down this path?
Can anyone tell me if I live in the state or NC but I want to internship in Florida, does it affect me being able to use those hours to count towards a NC license?
Hi I believe your school can help you. Also the veterans affairs I believe have virtual internships. Also look up if Florida accepts NC accreditation which will make it easier.
I know the salary can vary for any career/careers for psychology. However can you give a rough estimate on how much clinical mental health counselors make starting out (after having completed exam and required hours). Please and thank you, this video helped me a whole lot!
If you're in Florida, you're only going to earn under $40,000, our pay is tragic. I'm working on getting my license, because I'm literally barely making it by with a Master's degree.
I am in Seattle, WA and I had offers from $59,500 to $66,800. That is a starting amount. However, after a few years, you can go into private practice and easily make double that amount.
You’re not gonna make crap, lol. I work in community mental health. These therapists make less than someone in private practice, but they do it bc they get benefits & PTO
I'm currently in college to become a counselor. Im in Internship II and in my state (WV) we are required 750 hours. Social work hours are actually not as much. It varies state to state.

This is the most helpful thing I've ever seen! Thank you!
This was SOOOOO valuable to me. Thank you ❤
This woman!!! sooooooo good! This was the best video I have ever seen insofar as WHY AM I DOING THIS
Such a well done video. I’m at the waiting stage of licensure, but still found this so informative.
In Wisconsin you need to complete 3,000 hours with 1,000 hours face-to-face to obtain an LPC + college, of course.
Ridiculous
@@Logan-jh5xn not really. a lot of states are like this. You get a temporary LPC license so you can get those 3000 hours.
@@fitandcurvy2520 Correct. In CA, 3000 hours with 1700 being face-to-face for LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor)
@@Logan-jh5xn What's ridiculous?
thanks for the time you all put into this!
Thank you! This was very informative and useful!!! I would love more videos like this!

Can the internship be paid? Would those hours count?
Can i major in social work in undergraduate school. Then pursue a masters in counseling? Or do I have to switch to psychology major.
Very helpful thank you 🙏🏻

Masters level I should say
If you're in Florida, you're only going to earn under $40,000, our pay is tragic. I'm working on getting my license, because I'm literally barely making it by with a Master's degree.
Once you're licensed you can open a private practice and charge what you want plus take insurance.

Really helped me look and think of things differently into more depth for my interest in the psyc. field
Why does a social work degree require 940 hours of internship while a counselor one only requires 250 😢
