St Thomas Yacht Positive Energy Fire Burns to water line March 15 2016

  • This $2.5 Million dollar Yacht parked at the The Yacht Haven Grande Marina in St Thomas Virgin Islands tragically met it's maker. It about made me sick recording this. It looked like a possible galley fire that I thought would be quickly taken care of but as you can see after several minutes it became irreversible. Was a beautiful boat.
    Video was taken from the 16th deck of the Norwegian Escape.

    That was a sensible decision on somebody's part to take her out when the fire was clearly beyond control, and some brave and competent crew on the boat which did the job. It could have been so much worse.

      Not to mention the tow crew tied their tow line to the pier so the wind wouldn't grab the yacht -- good thinking

      FD response equally BAD. Actually they would have had to do something to have done bad. Other than stand there they did 0. Should have been put out easily. FD should be sued and forced to buy the owner a new boat. Negligent.
      Why no fire suppression ON the boat in the first place?

    The fire crew in green is actually from a docked cruise ship. The shipped launched its lifeboat with the fire crew to assist. As with the coast guard that towed the boat away, they are not in the business of saving a craft. Once determined that there were no individuals on board that needed rescue it is towed away. It is the same at sea. The coast guards primary objective is for saving lives not your craft.

    Very sad to see such a beautiful boat lost in minutes. So lucky this was not 100miles out to sea. Good work by the marina small boat that got the boat away from other boats and berthing area. It was clear that the boat was a loss and waiting for fire service would have been wrong.

  • @craddocraddoc

    Even though in general it might make sense to get the boat out of the marina, it's quite a stupid decision here: Just seconds before the boat gets taken away, the firemen arrive. You can even see them spray water on the fire, the exact moment, the boat is dragged away. Seconds later it is too far away for the firemen. So in this case, the "rescueboat" was not doing any kind of rescue...

      @@craddocraddoc yes! Because it would take them so long to get enough large bore water canons on it the surrounding boats would be alight. Do you know just how much water it takes to do anything at all to a grp boat? @@V8burble beside the fact, that this is a concrete harbour with no ships close by and even if there were - why not just drag them away instead? You are still trying to tell me, that taking the ship aeay from firemen and letting it burn down completely is the better solution to give the firemen a chance to at least try to get the fire out? You would burn down your house because it would be less work than mowing the front lawn, wouldn't you?

    • @V8burble
      @V8burble 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@craddocraddoc let’s beg to differ.
      My last comment is that of the wind direction towards those larger yachts, a drifting alight vessel compared to an alight vessel away from everyone is an easy decision. The vessel is a right off so don’t endanger surrounding vessels just to try and extinguish the fire, which as I say, takes way more water than you might think.

    The owner was too cheap to install a good fire prevention system. Maybe an insurance scam.

    If yall was smart n not being fricking dumb the fire was an OIL FIRE you cant put out a OIL FIRE WITH WATER. And how the fire department gonna put out such a big fire with that hose ? 😐

    • @craddocraddoc
      @craddocraddoc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah sure. If it is foam, then one hose is more than enough, even more if the fire is in an enclosed room like an engine room.

    Im betting most fires on a boat are insurance claims meant to fix bad decisions. Yes theres the fools with money to buy somthing they know nothing about but most real boat owners would never let this happen.

    Io avessi una barca di quel livello cancellerei come porto di attracco, questo porto e lo sconsiglierei a altri proprietari.
    Un porto che ormeggia barche della stazza di quel tipo, e non ha un vero servizio antincendio e una motoantincendio e da chiudere subito.
    Se fossero intervenuti con forza e mezzi subito a inizio incendio non si sarebbe arrivati a tanto.
    Io fossi il proprietario e assicurazione chiamerei in causa e Giudizio a rispondere e risarcire anche economicamente il Porto in questione. oggett
