The long-awaited Atlantic crossing. A big shout out to Dylan, who stepped up from his regular position as a deckhand to Videographer for the crossing to bring this to you while Steve and I were away on vacation. It's a weird feeling watching these videos and seeing life on board when I'm not there. However It's great to see the crew continuing on and getting it done. 😎
For those eager to know if I was ever able to shower again; I can confirm there were multiple spouts that released water, largely into my eyes and gaping mouth as I screamed in horror. But it peeled off rather easily and I spent the remainder of the shower plotting revenge on the deck team which you’ll see in part 2 😄
Thank You Dylan for stepping into the role of videographer for the passing and to the Loon Crew for sharing your travels across the beautiful waters with all of us, job well done! 👏🏼❤️
Hey guys and girls, you are doing an absolutely great job out there! But may I recommend using an Festool sander, for example the Rotex RO 150- FEQ, for sanding your gorgeous wooden deck! I guarantee You heaps more fun in less time, instead of working with the Bosch green line! Wish you all the best and a great season
I am really impressed with the drone shots when the weather was still unsettled. The video, without showing the ill effects on the crew, still conveyed that this is not a pleasure cruise and the crew still has lots of work to do.
What happened in the shower ???? Nice to see the weather, doesn't look bad but obviously is, sometimes we forget how big the boat is I suppose so the waves must be big. Looking forward to more.
Wow... @14:55 I love those laundry machines. I know it is weird but I like cleaning if I have the correct machines and that laundry room is perfect! I could easily spend all day every day working it. I would have that room spic and span and working perfectly. Nothing better on earth than Mielle Commercial machines. They so deserve to be kept in tip top shape and that room run like a top.
Captain Ben - welcome aboard and looking forward to the sea journey across to the Med for the next charter season. Hope all goes well and take care and God Speed 👍🙏😇🛳️
Some absolutely great camera work and shots on this episode. Hats off to those involved. Everyone seems to be on top of it in their roles and assignments and the Loon is looking outstanding. Who needs Capt. Clarke ? Just kidding gang. SMOOTHE SAILING.......
Fantastic to see part 1 of the long awaited Atlantic crossing. GREAT job by Dylan, I enjoy his no-nonsense approach I must say. It's great to see, despite all the obvious hard work done by all the crew, there's still time for camaraderie and hi-jinks. Hopefully part 2 will feature the hard working engineers who are actually keeping Loon moving forward.
Do you ever do an Atlantic Crossing (eastbound or westbound) with passengers onboard? I ask because this is my idea of heaven not stopping at any ports and just enjoying a couple of weeks out on the open water.
So great. Been waiting to see this. Miss the atlantic crossings, that's one big blue ocean.. nothing but water❤ What was the speed when the tuna was caught? What an excellent way to spend some at sea time Day 5 drone shots were really excellent
That's the issue with having cabins up front. Also why I woukd never have a main deck owner's cabin on an explorer yacht because I wouod be living aboard that yacht going places. I would be in the back and down as low as possible. Like sleep in the beach club. Lol. No, but low as possible. It sucks on small crew areas like a Sanlorenzo where your bed is not only small and oddly shaped, but also the ceiling is a couple inches from you and you get bounced into it all night. So we would sleep on cushions In the main salon.
Excellent video as always! @MotorYachtLoon - do you ever turn the engines off to rest or are they on 24x7 until you get to land next? Also, is there a "crew count" to verify everyone is onboard and if so, how often is that count/verification? Thanks again for the amazing videos - I would do anything to be there and crossing the Atlantic with you. Looks like fun!
Great video! During a crossing like this, do you have some of the crew working at night and sleeping during the day -- so as to be ready in case something comes up at night?

It's easy to see that the owner is very consistent in his preference for all things (and crew), to look their best.
I have been a number of times and while the seas can get rough/rolling like, I’ve never gotten sea sick as others are puking their toenails up, I can sleep like a baby during any high winds/storms (although I’ve come close to being tossed out of bed several times), some get sea sick while others fare just fine! If you’re ever adventuring off on a cruise it’s probably best to pick up some Dramamine to bring along with you, just in case, you don’t want the experience spent hurling over the side of the vessel or in a bathroom for many hours, constantly feeling nauseous, unable to keep anything down, and miss all the fun and sights/scenery.
Besides the seasickness the feeling of being completely isolated is something that is humbling and brings you down to earth. The everyday things we worry about on land are a distant memory. It’s you and the sea. I used to plan my whole life out while I was on watch late at night or early mornings watching those sunrises and sunsets takes you away.
Lot of South Africans in the crew. Nice to see my fellows doing well, getting out and seeing the world, showing the world how friendly and hardworking South Africans are. Only thing that could make it better is if their was a more representative view of the population in SA, thus giving more people an opportunity to see the orld and experience a different lifestyle.😊
Most vessels all personnel must have a basic first aid qualification whilst more senior members hold a higher first aid qualification. Aside from that some of the crew like stewards, Captain and chef may also hold various medical qualifications to issue certain drugs and give basic medical care. Always prevention is better than cure so hygiene and cleanliness onboard is important.
@@Buddy89538 Thanks! What kind of drugs are allowed? I can’t imagine that drugs like strong narcotics like Morphine etc. are allowed even if you have a qualification. I’ve heard that the normal paramedics in an ambulance also carry drugs like morphine, ketamine and are allowed to administer it after they asked a doc for permission, in case of an emergency even though radio. Can it be that this is also the case for a ship?
Great video but have to laugh at your comments about the seas being choppy and the vessel movements pitching and rolling haha. This weather is like crossing a small duck pond, you were so lucky with this weather.
Love the content. But please be careful with the audio mixing. The music montages are much louder than the talking parts. I'm constantly hovering over the volume knob.
Would you consider releasing B-roll footage edits of the yacht in the open sea/ocean? I would love to have chill out videos of footage like this available!
@@motoryachtloon Thank you very much - 14 days for 3866 miles worked out to about 11 knots - our destroyer crossed the Atlantic in 7 days with a planned speed of advance of 18kts - but we stopped for fuel twice at Ponta Delgata and Bermuda. Oh that’s good news, I thought he’d been ill and unable to film.💪💪💪
the good old Dylan
Loon videos are like Friends episodes. It's not complete without the main characters.
Yall have gotta try out the submarine in croatia! It's my favorite restaurant there. Or if you're in rijeka boonkers is good too.
I was wondering where the captain was but your Crew sir looks like they did a wonderful job on the crossing

Hahaha 😂🙈🚿🌧️🛀
😂😂😂
Revenge? Two words..... "Super" "Glue".
We obviously couldn't see the actual prank in action, but I was hoping for a camera /microphone in the hallway to record the scream!
Wow❤
Wow, this might be the first time I've ever seen Captain Paul take a vacation. Well deserved!
You obviously don't watch very much lol I haven't seen him do one crossing
@@Kiwifarmerboy it's the ideal time for a Captain's vacation, as the maximum risk/responsibility is with high-value/dollar charter guests on board.
@@Stephen_Lafferty hey there's no hate from me Paul works very hard I'm just saying the comment was irrelevant and wrong
Love seeing a Canadian Captain onboard. We are a rarity in the yachting industry.
Canadian, eh? Must have been a very polite crossing😀

We think he did a great job for his first time filming
Well done Dyl on filming in the rubbish weather and to the whole team for keeping spirits higher than the swell! Xx

Always lifts my spirits when I see my grandson chris have a safe trip greetings to all the incredible crew
Hahaha. Nice
But sounds like he had a bit of a rough crossing🤭
Welcome Captain Ben!!! A much deserved time away for Paul. Loon is in great hands with this crew
Magnificent drone shots! And great music choices!
Cameras never really show how nasty the sea can get, but the drone shots really showed the effect on Loon.
Very good part one of the crossing and so glad you all keep yourselves amused while out there in the BIG BLUE. Looking forward to part 2 .
Thank you Jonathan, we always appreciate your comments 😊

Of all of the comments I could make about Loon content, which I love, I'm pleased to note that we have the same juicer!
Great job crew. Getting the job done while being tossed around. Well, except for Chris apparently 😂
Cheers folks. 👍👍
Excellent job Dylan. Great video!
You have been listening, watching put in practice to catch drones. Well done Dylan thank you.
So sorry about the 🌊 ride there. But the progress made through it was very good. A solid vessel is awesome and that is Loon! 🤗
Great job Dylan!! Crew you guys are amazing!
Well done Dylan!
For his first video he’s done a great job
Indeed, he did a good job

I'll keep an eye out for you from the Sierra Nevada mountains when you pass Salobreña on your passage to Itally.
Always fun watching your updates. Question: why do you choose to cross on your own bottom vs Dockwise? Great watching!
Loon was deigned to cross oceans with over 6,000nm range. It’s mostly yachts under 150’ that use ships.

Made that same crossing on an 160 ft yacht back in 1980. I was a recent USMMA grad ....Did all the nav via celestial. Ftl, Gib, Marbella

Wish u a good trip, let the MTU 4000s roar, hope they will do their job properly as expected 👌 is there a video where the engines are running?
8:36 What camera and gimbal are you using? Do you have problems with the camera overheating as you film?
Great video as always. Question, how come you don't fish in the med? Laws or lack of fish?
We do but it’s not as plentiful 🎣
Thank you for this view behind an atlantic crossing on a SY!
Does Loon have active stabilisation, eg side or tank transfer?
Nice video Dylan does a great job

Very nice Tuna dish.

I've never been abord a ship in the deep ocean. I have no idea how my body would handle it. But it is an experience I wish I had.

Hope the weather wasn't so bad that Piper didn't have to leave her cabin due to choppy seas.
Day 3 & 4 looks testing for Loon, and for the crew.
Loon handled the ocean swells great.. Some of the pollywogs not so much 😂
Just out of curiosity, why don’t super yacht manufacturers use the fake teak, seems like it would be so much easier to maintain? Great video, be safe!
Was Cap wearing an "OnlyFins" shirt? That is hilarious!
I ❤ that shirt.
Nice video! I've done crossings of the Baltic Sea in 50 footers, this is a bit different. :D
Do you ever take passengers for the Atlantic crossings?

Oh, you've got yourself a Fe$tool CT Vac there! They're nice stuff. But how did you the boss to approve the cost?
You must have a desalination system on board. Maybe if time allows, you could make a video of that in the future.
Do you guys get to use the amenities while underway
Why didnt you put loon on the big boat for the crossing?
Cost and timeing no doubt. Also, she getting a bit big for Dockwise.
Very interesting vid… the highlights, the lowlights. I think I’d prefer a little more freeboard but everything’s a compromise of course.

How
Much fuel did it take to
Make the crossing or how much does it hold total
does any of the deck crew get sea sick , and if they do how do they deal with it ?
How often can you sand the wood before you have to replace it. It seems like you guys sand it a lot.
Spectacular
don't you need to freeze the tuna before you eat it raw? I'm just curious.
