Having watched Jordan his whole career, he just had this inherent intimidation about himself when he stepped on the floor. He was bigger than life. I've been to tons of rock concerts and when Jordan was introduced it was like a massive rock star just stepped on stage. I was lucky enough to see him live once and I will never forget it, the game where Rodman kicked the camera guy

I only got to see the 2nd 3-peat. Did he come into the League with the aura or did Phil Jackson instill that in him? I've seen highlights from the 1988 season and watched the '92 Finals (decades later) and '93 Finals but I'm curious if just didn't have enough help before the 90's or if he actually changed his game? I've never known him to be a distributor but I can certainly see how a Rodman and a Pippen are invaluable to the overall team's playing ability. I guess my question is did he strike fear in the hearts of opponents before he won a ring?

@@fightclub6291 all his career, the second best player he had was pippen. Pippen was coming in the league as a fifth pick bench rookie. Every championship Lebron won he team up with at least one player that is already an all star MVP and USA gold medalist and still half of the time he won it was a shortened season. He also once had a chance to play with a first pick rookie Andrew Wiggins who we all know he can be a second best player on a championship team by now. He is not good enough for Lebron. Lebron still now is credited with not having enough help. So that is how much help jordan had for your reference.

Yeah, that team was nuts. They were up against what I would call the first truly stacked super team, with 4 clear HOFers in Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Payton, plus Phil Jackson at the helm. At the start of the season I thought there was no way that team wouldn't crush it the entire season and win it all easily. Age issues aside, those Pistons showed me what a real team playing together can accomplish and that simply stacking super stars together without chemistry just doesn't work. Not only did the Pistons whip on the Lakers, it really wasn't clear to me who would be Finals MVP because they played so well together overall and 3-4 of them had an equally large impact in my eyes. I'm really surprised more teams don't intentionally go that route for team building. Instead of being so heavily focused on acquiring as many top 10 people as possible on one squad. It would be way easier to stack your team with people ranked in the top 30-50, they'd still be really skilled, and there'd be less ego and drama to manage. Then, give it a few years to let the chemistry meld, and you're in a much better place

Not really, I played pro ball for 11 seasons. Played against a lot of guys who never made a penny to play the game who were head and shoulders more talented then some of the guys who were making all-star teams. You can be the most talented guy in the world but if you can`t apply that talent to enhance a basketball skill then its not going to help you. The all-time level guys I got a chance to be around had three things almost always in common and it wasn`t talent. It was mental recall and pattern recognition. They could recall meaningless individual plays from a pre-season game in October when prepping for a playoff game in May. The second was they were acutely aware of how their movement(s) impacted the man other 9 guys on the floor. Because of that they always seem to be playing 1 step ahead even when the physical ability to "out athlete" a guy was no longer there. Third was a complete understanding of their own strengths and weakness and how to use what strength was needed to beat the man in front of them. All those things tie into one another.

@@stumpu96 Athletes coming from Europe understand this a lot earlier then athletes coming from America because having to come up through a organized club system better players get to a point at 13 or 14 years old where they are thrown in competition at a semi pro level on the clubs 2nd or 3rd division team where they end up practicing with bigger, stronger, faster and more experienced players. There can be an age and development gap greater then a decade in that situation. That forces the kid to focus on their technical ability to play the game, see the game and understand what they are seeing. A lot of times for us in the USA is we come up playing in a youth system/scholastic system where there`s very rarely an age gap of more then 3 years. That creates a bit of reliance and addiction on bigger, faster, stronger as you can use pure physicality to dominate until you are 19 or 20 years old and pull on a professional uniform.

I don’t think “work ethic” and Kawhi should be in the same sentence. He mentions how Kobe and Michael played every preseason game to get ready for the 82 game season. Kawhi, on the other hand, is a part-time player. He can’t even show up for every regular season game. I hope at the next bargaining agreement negotiations that the owners demand a play-for-pay type contract for everyone. In other words, if your contract is for $10 million, they divide that amount by 82 and you only get the portions you play. So if you take half the season off like Kawhi does, then you only get $5 million. If they did that, load management would end overnight.

@@Thanosdidtherighthing - That’s not the owners fault. If Kawhi wants to be paid like a full-time player, he needs to play full-time.
