    Actually watched the anime before I played the game, so I thought everyone who kept saying P5 was a masterpiece lied. Then I ended up buying the game because it was on sale, and the difference was EXTREMELY noticeable.

      I think P5 (in terms of story and character development) is ass compared to P4, and there's FAR less fun moments with the group. Half the P5 cast seemed like cheap knockoffs of characters from 3 and 4. What really bothered me was that every group meeting was somewhere extremely public and they're all talking about being phantom thieves, but then yell at Ryuji for saying literally anything and I guess that was the joke.
      The gameplay and system mechanics are vastly improved, but to me, everything else is way worse. The entire game I was just waiting for something "fun" to happen that never did. Like, they go to Hawaii, but instead of doing anything fun or interesting, they sit in the hotel and jack each other off about how sick it is to be phantom thieves.

      @@Squidward-jv7go Is it though? They're all dipshits. They all stand around the middle of a crowded street shouting about how they're the phantom thieves, but the only one who gets called out for it is Ryuji. What's annoying is not only is Ryuji the only one called out, but it's basically a running gag to yell at him and call him stupid or to shut up. He's the butt of every punchline and none of them are funny.

      Ryuji is probably my favourite character but I’m not one to get annoyed at clear running jokes, even if they aren’t always funny, because it’s obvious the whole team cares about Ryuji. It sounds like that’s your only reason and that really is weird. And I don’t even remember that happening often, maybe only twice... and it’s not a big deal.

    The problem of the anime can be summed up in one scene: when Sojiro discovered the identity of the Phantom Thieves
    Anime:
    . Totally *COOOOL* with it....doesn't even care
    Game:
    . Furious about being lied to for months, but still sympathetic to the Thieves' cause
    . Worried about Ren and Futaba's safety
    . Split between his responsibility as Ren's and Futaba's guardian but also his desire to avenge Wakaba (Futaba's mother)
    ....See the difference ?

    • @louiscypher4996
      @louiscypher4996 5 ปีที่แล้ว +563

      Couldn't have said it better myself. Not to mention that one scene in Episode 1.
      Anime:
      . Kawakami drops a flyer for a maid service business in her first scene... Literally no one cares. (Except for Joker, of course)
      Game:
      . Ryuji just finds a flyer somewhere.
      . Shows it to Joker and sets it up, also bringing Mishima along.
      . Ryuji finds a vacant room so that they can test the service out.
      . Maid comes, Ryuji and Mishima hide while Joker does the job.
      . Ryuji and Mishima chicken out. Maid turns around and... It's Kawakami.
      Game version is how you do build-up to something without some stupid foreshadowing.

      roast beef Well the anime is meant to give more exposure to the game dude. How can a newcomer who only watches anime know that Persona even existed if he didnt watch the anime first? (Even if its not its entirety).
      I have friends who watched the anime of P4 first and didnt even know it was a game and enjoyed the heck out of it.
      Some of them played the Arena games first and didnt think that it started as a JRPG yet they loved it so much even without the background knowledge of it. They bought the Original afterwards.
      Exposure is exposure. So the content by which you get it does not matter whether it being seeing the anime first or playing the spin offs because it will lead to the game being exposed therefore it will most likely lead to the original game being played.
      It doesn't matter because everyone will enjoy the franchise differently.
      I started with Persona 3 and Persona trinity soul.
      Just like the Star Wars franchise. You can watch the prequels first and then the original and you'd have a different yet still an amazing experience just like the people who watched the original first then the prequels.

    P3 Movie - art style and animation are amazing, a bit rushed on the story but what can you do.
    P4 the Animation - serviceable art and animation, and the execution of story beats and social links were amazing, Yu Narukami's personality is engaging too. There were some parts where it even handled better than the game
    P5 the Animation - What the fuck happened with you? The only good things that came from you were the opening songs! And oh yeah, at least you handled Goro Akechi and Ren's relationship better than the game.
    Edit: Yep, P5R pretty much further invalidated the Persona 5 the Animation.

      @@joshuaholmes7929 The thing that i think majorly helped the P4 anime was the murder mystery aspect. New characters get introduced along with their palaces, but they're more like short term points of focus, getting 1-2 episodes per character intro, while the long term goal is still always "find the killer", and the characters get further development while on the way to completing that goal. P5 doesn't really have a concrete end goal till late game, which makes the beginning and middle of P5's story sorta aimless, especially when presented in the format of an anime.

      I know this is a late comment, but I think the ending credits song "Infinity" is fantastic, and I wish it was used for Persona 5 Royal.
      In addition, I do think that they made the mistake of trying to copy the narrative of the game, albeit in a condensed form. Instead they should have came up with an entirely original story that was tailor made for the medium of a TV series; Video games and film/TV are entirely different mediums, after all

    I greatly enjoy how in-game, Ren as Joker is a cocky, flamboyant, badass little show-off who taunts his enemies, shows no fear when facing an opponent, and does what he does due to his unquenchable need to help other people, the catalyst to him being able to awaken his Persona and wield Arsene in the first place while Anime Joker is..... kinda tough.... a bit mean...... can fight...... meh....
    Point is,
    In-Game Joker: Cocky and flamboyant little show-off with a flare for the dramatic and a strong sense of style and grace in what he does

      I would have preferred the anime if Ren was totally written off the story (and Haru too). A silent protagonist with no point in the plot except being the player's insert, why can't you simply TAKE HIM OUT and make Makoto the protagonist?

    • @vittoriopugliese3352
      @vittoriopugliese3352 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @EdMarlo Ulpindo I think it was intentional, as they wanted to avoid giving Ren too much of a personality and ruin the "self-insert" he was created to be. If that was what they wanted, they I'd rather want him completely taken off from the anime, rather than him being given a canon name, because a canon name doesn't always mean he's going to be non-silent and to get a good characterization (and he didn't), while completely writing off the silent protagonist means that the party member (Makoto Niijima) that acts as "replacement protagonist" is a good character.

    • @vittoriopugliese3352
      @vittoriopugliese3352 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @EdMarlo Ulpindo For Persona 6 the animation I want the protagonist not to appear at all.
      While we had a few protagonists like Yu Narukami and Serph from the Quantum Devil Saga book adaptations, who were turned into characters with personality that were even well-written, most protagonists from Megaten are still silent in adaptations or are kept generic to be self-inserts (see for instance Hibiki Kuze, Makoto Yuki or Ren Amamiya). A protagonist that doesn't exist in the anime gives those who want a player avatar their avatar, and to those who want a well-written protagonist for the anime a party member who takes over the protagonist's duties. After all, Persona 5 showed us that half of the cast was an overglorified mouthpiece for Ren

      Talking about JoJo I wonder how the anime would have turned out if it was produced by David Pro instead of A-1. Every point that the game masters and P5A flaws (Opening, musical direction, visuals, sfx, etc) is managed very well in the JoJo adaptation.
      I know that JoJo isn't an anime with a mainly God tier animation (It does have god tier moments but almost everytime is standard) but the direction manages to make its better aspects compliment its flaws.

      GG-27 but I wouldn’t consider persona 4 a 100 plus hour game. Generally speaking this is supposed to be a brief taste of what you will experience if you wanna play the game. Will they leave some stuff out? Of course, Persona 5 the Animation is basically a commoner’s approach to the material its merchandising (much like Pokémon with its game and YuGiOh with its trading cards) Persona 5 the Animation’s main goal is to sell you a product that you want to invest. After all the way they approach the anime appears like so. Much like Persona 4 the Animation and Persona 4 the Golden Animation, Persona 5 the Animation is to give you a take on the game and if you want to emulate or create a different approach then you can buy the game and play it yourself. It’s the main rule when it comes to product-based Anime.

    I really don't like how they handled Ren. In the game he had a lot of funny and sarcastic comments. He was snarky and I couldn't wait to see what he would say. Even the other characters knew he had a mouth on him. There was one scene in the anime where he got so used to taking off masks he almost did it in reality. I wanted more of that!
    They also down graded scenes like where Mishima blabbed about Komoshida. You don't hear what happened in the anime when Ryuji and Ren found out so its nothing big for the audience when it was a big deal in the game. You could feel Ryuji's anger when its implied the worst happened, that's why you got angry with him in the game. You get nothing like that in the show.
    Then there's the animation, I understand you can't make it like the game, but the all out attack needed work, but I really didn't like the lighting. I felt like giving the characters an umbrella because it was so dark anytime an episode came on.

    I don't really think anything persona 5 related has a right to look standard. The game flagrantly defies what is to be expected stylistically from a JRPG, taking style to a new level. The game itself is about defying the opressive grip of authority and expressing yourself in the way you feel is right, so what is the irony that the anime not only looks standard but is stiffly animated, cheap and lifeless? Just look at the opening to the Game, that could've been what the whole show looked like this abstract, symbolic representation of the themes at play with in the story, but instead the decided to play it so safe which is antithetical to the very ideas that P5 thrives on. Why does the sky need to be blue why do the character need look on model, why do the buildings need to look so generic? Go crazy, have fun, you would've made a bigger impact doing that than trying to adhere to what is expected. Hell even the promo looked like it would've been a better style for the anime than what they went for. Such wasted potential.

      Marche800 ok, you’re exaggerating. You’re talking like this game was some milestone for jrpg’s.... it really isn’t. It’s one of the best recent jrpg’s, but don’t talk like it’ll go down in video game history as legendary as something like Chrono Trigger or FF7.

    • @marche800
      @marche800 6 ปีที่แล้ว +111

      Baba Bobo Am I exaggerating? I'm of the mind that the aesthetic of Persona 5 is going to loom over every RPG I play from now on. It sets a pretty dominant precendent in that regard. If an rpg doesn't have a strong aesthetic it will always have something inferior to P5. Now I'm not saying it redefined the genre entirely but neither did FF7, FF7 just popularized the RPG genre and pushed it towards the 3D era but as far as gameplay and story it was fairly standard when compared to the previous games. Other games did the the same or even more that FF7 but because of how popular FF7 was the changes it brought were more prolific and set a standard.

    • @bababobo5067
      @bababobo5067 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Marche800 it’s cool that you think Persona 5 is that great. I like it quite a bit myself (although I think P4 is superior, and is better in every aspect besides graphics and gameplay); but don’t be mistaken in thinking it’ll be nearly as celebrated as the other jrpg’s that truly defined the genre. It’s just a really good game, nothing special; we get tons of those over the years. Again, it’s cool you think it’s revolutionary, but it’s just another popular game of the year that’ll be somewhat forgotten by the masses in the years to come, much like the Arkham games, or Nier: Automata.

    • @marche800
      @marche800 6 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      Baba Bobo Again it's not that I think that it's revolutionary in its own, it's that I think it's presentation is revolutionary and it should become an industry standard to create a unique and rich aesthetic for your RPG instead of going the generic status quo.
      Also you mentioned NieR automata but that game borrows heavily from pre established ideas in both gaming as a whole and the Drakengard/NieR franchise. Gameplay wise it's pretty standard platinum fare and it's tone, themes and writing style are thing that were explored pretty heavily in the previous games but, like Final Fantasy 7, it only seems revolutionary because Automata was popular and heavily regarded. The same is true for Persona 5 in a lot of ways, it's a audience and critical darling, so even though it did a lot of things that the previous games established those elements that were overlooked in the previous games are brought to the forefront and attributed to P5 because of its popularity. For a lot of people Persona 5 is there first Persona game and so the elements present in the previous games will appear brand new to them and given that their first experience was with 5 they will likely attribute that feeling with Persona 5. It's like how many people still think back to their experience with persona 3 when they talk about what so great about Persona. If those same people go on to make game ormf storues of their own there's a great chance that it'll be inspired by Persona 5. It may seem like a Renaissance for of veteran fans but to newcomers, to which there are a lot of, it's all brand new.

      As much as I prefer "Akira Kurusu", I also like the meaning behind "Ren Amamiya". Apparently it means Lotus, Rain, and Palace. Palace is obvious, Rain I'm guessing is meaning to make something fall (the palaces), and the Lotus is a symbol of purity and cleansing in Buddhism. I personally think going for something around the word Trickster or Thief would've been more fitting, kinda like how Narukami meant "howling god" and was the name of the Japanese god of thunder, and Izanagi was a lightning persona based on a god.

    It's notable that the P4 protagonist is the only Persona MC to have one name stick. Nobody calls him Souji Seta instead of Yu Narukami. Meanwhile, we still have Minato Arisato/Makoto Yuuki arguments over a decade later, and I think that we will have Ren Amamiya/Akira Kurusu arguments for a very long while as well.
    You wanna know why? Yu Narukami left an impression on the viewers with his goofy and funny dialogue. He held a presence within the story. Meanwhile, Akira and Ren are completely different.

Also, for a *long* time, Akira Kurusu was the only name and folks just got used to them.

    • @vittoriopugliese3352

      I want them to be real characters on their own. In the anime Yu was an actual character, even though Makoto in the movie was still silent (he had a few lines, but roughly the same as Ren in the game), and in the adaptations, the other non-Yu Persona MCs lacked the choices, but their mutism was explained with plot reasons, such as Souji in the manga being born with damaged vocal chords, or Yu from the Golden Animation being born mute, or who knows.
      As for the protagonist in P6 I hope he'll be an actual character (or who knows, TWO actual characters!), but, if he's going to be silent in the game, then I think the anime won't make another exception like Yu, instead giving him only facial expressions a la Wind Waker but no dialogue whatsoever. Like the protagonist in P1 manga and unlike Yu, I also think the P6MC might stay unnamed in the anime.
      As for Ren, I think they might retconnect him as an actual mute in spinoffs and have Futaba speak for him.

I remember playing my first persona game on the ps1 and it was innocent sin, thing is it was in Japanese cause of the issue of not being localized, it was hard getting by not understanding anything but my big brother was mainly playing it too so we got the handle of it, luckily the psp versions were released, understanding the game made it a thousand times enjoyable then it already was.

      Honestly, I think an anime studio COULD make a good anime out of Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, for a couple reasons; a) no social links, so all the charactization happens IN the main storyline, b) those games take place over a MUCH shorter period of time, rather than almost a full year, and c) most places and events in P4 and P5 were essential to the plot structure, so you could rarely condense things, but in Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, there are some plot points and areas that could fessiblly be shuffled around and combined without losing anything, especially since the game isn't played on a calendar system, so if you move stuff around there's no "what on earth were the characters doing for that WHOLE MONTH-LONG GAP OF TIME???"

    How did they manage to make the P3 movies actually okay (putting more focus on the main cast, I especially liked how they fleshed out Ken and Shinji's relationship more) but turn this into a soulless adaptation? For god's sake the game was praised for how much it was bursting with visual charm. Instead we get the most bland, lifeless interactions and every bit goes from point A to point B without a single pause. Pacing is moving horribly fast and the characters seem to barely even register each other's presence. What the hell happened?
    edit: I'm glad i'm not the only one who was actually kind of let down by the opening. the music starts off interesting but becomes predictable 20 seconds in and the opening is LITERALLY just animated official art.

Also this is the studio that game us the Persona 4 Golden Animation, and that was 12 kinds of mediocre (except the bad ending episode). • @ApexGale
      @ApexGale 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only movie in the series that had a different studio was the first one. After that, the remaining three were all animated by A-1 Pictures.
      It could be the fact that three directors worked on the movies (1, 2, 3/4 all had separate directors). Regardless, they still did a much better job. This anime is just a total disappointment for anyone who has played the game. Even if you haven't, going from the anime to the game will be a shame, because you already know the events that will occur but they won't evoke the same sort of emotion.
      It doesn't help that again, the game also had brilliant art direction that looked so good when playing. If they can't capture the aesthetic that helped push the game into the mainstream, what's even the point of making the show? That's be like if an "Oyasumi Punpun" anime just completely did away with the bird head - why would you even do that?

    Not necessarily. I'll admit it's not great, but the anime actually COULD capitalize on one big problem: the lack of development before and after The Big Stuff with Goro Akechi. He was sort of just a forgotten plot point after a point, not mentioned or anything. Akechi could certainly get a lot more development than P5's english release gave him. They botched a lot of his lines in localization, for example.
    So I think it could be a good thing we get more Akechi, and it already seems like we are. That's a pretty big redeeming factor to me, at least. There are definitely some plot points like Akechi the anime could improve on/give us more about, I think.

      Usually what happens is that there will be the manga for the game that has the main character having one name and then when the anime comes out they decide to give them a completely different name.
      Why they do this I have no idea.

    • @tatsudragneel4761
      @tatsudragneel4761 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      they only have 1 canon name never 2
      the manga names are just made up by the mangaka making the manga and in no way official by Atlus
      then when Atlus makes spin offs and anime they make a canon name with a meaning that fits the character and theme of the game
      it would probably be a smarter idea to just have a canon name from the start like P2 with Tatsuya and Maya and give you an option to change it if you wanted to. Then there wouldnt be the manga problem

      the manga come out around the time the games did iirc
      the canon names are
      Tatsuya Suou, Maya Amano, Makoto Yuki, Yu Narukami, and Ren Amamiya
      the only protag that doesnt have a canon name is P1 Protag (hes called Naoya in the manga however like i said that isnt official)

    There's two general problems with video game adaptations that studios haven't solved yet. Both have to do with the simple question of why you are adapting.
    Firstly the audiance of a video game adaptation will be gamers. People who have played the game. Sure if your'e adaptation is well enough recieved by this audiance you might tap into the general public but you need to start here. The problem is that most studio executives don't understand that games are a modern artform fully able to tell a story as good as or better then the medium of film. They seem to think that the hook of the show will be seeing the game told in a fleshed out story.. you know.. the thing that games have already.
    The second is that while an adaptation of say a book to film ads something, audio and visuals (yes the book will usually be better and deeper but there is a technical reason for adapting) with games however you have both of these things. Games adapted to film usually just remove a quality, the audio and sound is in the game, so is the story so the film-medium only removes the aspect of player interaction. Gamers don't want to see some famous actor or animated figure as their favourite carachter when they themselves are used to being the carachter. You simply remove a quality of the game without adding anything substantial (sure you might add better graphics but that's usually doesn't cut it.)..
    Film needs to find a reason to adapt source material. They have to realise that games are completaly capable of telling a story and find a way to adapt to film adding something that would not work in a game. Otherwise we will never see a truly great video game adaptation..

      The Utte! True; reason why I feel that the best way to do a Silent Hill movie is to make an original story first (and not one that heavily borrows from an existing story). Which is probably why we’ll never get one.
      As for adapting games like the Persona series, a reason for watching would probably be changes that improve the story in some way. For example, I think the fight against Shadow Mitsuo in P4: the Animation is done really well. Rather than just doing the fight, the episode focuses on Yu’s fear of the gang splitting up once the case was solved through a hallucination created by the Shadow. This made it all the more satisfying when Yu defeated the Shadow using manifestations of all the bonds he made. It also tied into the main theme of the story more; note that after that fight, Yu is more open to people (including being on a first-name basis with Yosuke).
      In fact, most of the Shadow battles are improved just by having the victim conscious. Because now, rather than just beating up the Shadow, the heroes have to first help the victim face their issues (ex. Shadow Yosuke pretty much dominates the fight against Yu/Izanagi until Yosuke admits that the Shadow was telling the truth, weakening him enough for Izanagi to finish him off. Yu also has to protect Yosuke during the battle).

    I've never got this culture of anime fans judging shows with finality after the first 2/3 episodes. I remember watching one of the weebcasts and finding it weird Geoff and the guests were categorically and confidently saying a show was great or awful based only on the very first episode. There're a million shows which have thrown away an interesting initial premise and become trash (Kabaneri, BBK/BRNK) and there are shows that have ditched their initial premise in the first 5 episodes and become even better for it, going on for another 100 (Yu Yu Hakusho). Here there are three episodes of P5A out which is 12% of the show, it could turn around and be great or it could get even worse and be awful, *we don't know yet* .

    Well, we have the Shadow Kamoshida fight,,, and it sucked too. The fight only lasted about 4 minutes. Joker's ability to use multiple personas is just introduced and shrugged off. Both parties barely do anything before all the sudden Shadow Kamoshida is going in for the killing blow. I think this fight really highlights my issue with P5: The Animation, it is progressing too quickly for it's own good. It's like they are moving way too fast to get all the characters introduced and get the main story of the game going that they are sacrificing necessary character development. I'm really afraid to see how they will handle Haru considering she didn't really get much development time in the game as well.

      PeaTearGryfin the anime does not have time? If Persona series could do 40 minute long episodes and over 50 episodes then they could prolong the battles. But they have only 24 minutes and 24 episodes to handle Persona 5 from the beginning to the end.

    • @Kage-pm6qi
      @Kage-pm6qi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd like to point you towards Persona 4 the Animation: which had prolonged battles and decent pacing.
      But I will concede that Persona 5 does have the caviat that th dungeons are more importnat than P4's. But still if you can't find a way to put the content in the alotted time in a way that weaves a narative and effectively shows the action in new interesting portayals, then don't bother trying to force EVERY Major Plot point from begining to end, also don't waste time with pointless character additions that serve no purpose than cameo/quota.
      If they took their time and made P5 the animation's 24 a season covering half or a third of the game(I will admit that a third is being VERY generous) they could have had the time to deveop the narative, designs elements, and characters properly. Because come on, if P5 the animation was great do you actually think they would hav trouble getting another season?

    • @rikuvakevainen6157
      @rikuvakevainen6157 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kage1713 "sigh" that's why I have given up on comparing manga to anime or game to anime or game to manga. I could spend the rest of my life doing that, but what there awaits me? Nothing.
      I figured out long ago that putting exceptions to new version of games or series is waste of time. And if they repeated everything the same way as it was in the game or manga, watching anime would be pointless because I know the story. That's why I am more then happy when they do things differently. It gives me exitment to watch series.
      I know that Persona 5 the animation is pane combared to game, but I safe a lot of time thinking that Persona 5 game and Persona 5 the animation are from different universe. I can watch them knowing the plot, but I can enjoy both if them at the same time.

    • @Kage-pm6qi
      @Kage-pm6qi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not saying "DO it exactly like this or not at all" I'm saying "don't bother if you're going to take the lazy option" because that's what P5 is doing: putting forth the minimum effort without bothering to make a narative or characterize their MC. That's why I'm complaining they aren't doing anything new, they're doing the same thing from the game but crammed into impactless portions that quicly move onto the next impactless portion, the only new things P5 Animation has done are naratively pointless cameos that waste space in an already cramped run time.

    Personally, my biggest complaint in the anime is it's just so ...drab. Sure some areas in P5 had a relatively grey look to illicit certain emotional responses, such as gloomy streets on rainy days, but on the whole it was a very vibrant game. All colours, but specifically red, POPPED and it was a true treat visually.
    By comparison, all the colours in P5A seemed very muted. No longer was there that same sense of vibrance, stark contrast, and bold colours, instead everything seemed dark, drab, and dreary. This is perhaps MOST notable in the All-Out Attacks. Why oh why did they get rid of the character specific still frames and change them to a boring all red background for the final frame? It just seems so empty by comparison.

    P4: Decent animation and a wonderful adaptation of the story which made the viewer feel as much emotion and perhaps even more in certain scenes as the games by covering even more than just the main points with brilliant openings and a wonderful original soundtrack which reuses songs from the game a bit more but it works effectively.
    P4G: animation quality has gone far downhill, has about 3 good episodes which are all filler and are captured way better in the game. The opening was pretty good and the rest of the soundtrack was too but it wasn't enough to save the anime as a whole
    P5: Absolute car crash. Fucking hell it's as if you took the bad parts from the other animes and mixed them into one thing. Animation is poor, soundtrack is used ineffectively and the writing is terrible and extremely simplified making the viewer feel little to no emotion. Had like 3 good jokes in the whole thing and that's all the redeeming qualities it had. Please don't fuck up with Royal.

      I freaking love Persona 4! But I disagree with you in the first one. Persona 3 movies were really rushed, they had a pace so fast that if new PLAYER is watching it, he/she wouldn't be able to understand it properly.

    I look forward to the day that someone as skilled as Peter Jackson gets a chance to adapt a video game they know as well as Jackson knew Lord of the Rings into a traditional visual medium, and creates a LotR-style masterpiece that brings enough credibility to both video game adaptations that more people actually _put in effort_ when working on them. Until then, we're going to get a _lot_ of anime and films like this and the Silent Hill movie...

    Having beaten the game thrice on vanilla p5, and twice on royal, I think I'm the only person this show is for. Especially with the dub now out, the animation feels evocative of the moments of the games for someone that's SO FAMILIAR with what happens and the actual fleshed out story and character beats. I think the performances in the dub are phenomenal and make the animation worth watching on their own merit
