    52:54 don't be fooled, _BOKTAI_ there in the bottom-right is a Kojima game, and a wild one at that.
    The cartridge has a solar sensor in it, and you have to go outside in the sun to recharge/refill your main weapon. I've never played it myself but I've heard it's a surprisingly good game, and I think if you emulate it people have figured out workarounds for the solar issue. Just a wild concept and this was Kojima doing his Kojima thing in between MGS 2 & 3

    • @luka9967
      @luka9967 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it's very a interesting game, and i believe some emulators for mobile devices use the light sensors on cameras as a replacement

    • @Adoochi
      @Adoochi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a pretty good game! The series as a whole is pretty solid. If you're emulating them, most emulators nowadays have a function to adjust the Solar Sensor built in, but you can also opt to use Prof 9's Solar Sensor patches instead which adds that functionality to the games themselves. They also had a lot of crossover content with the Mega Man Battle Network series (and Star Force 1). The series has a pretty great fan made sequel in the works called Kura 5 that manages to keep the feel of the Solar Sensor by connecting to the internet and using weather forecast data from your location and reflecting it back in game.
      I'd definitely recommend checking the series out if it sounds interesting.

    MLB Slugfest is a real hidden gem. I love games that take a sport and make it wacky and extreme, and that game is no exception. I remember playing against my friends as a team of robots vs a team of minotaurs, and punching each other out with flaming baseballs. It's a blast!

    God back in the day I would have my e reader on the gameboy player, scan the cards and then have the link cable plugged into my GBA to transfer the data over, with "Scan Dot Code" playing on the TV. It's interesting that they don't cover that scenario, because what kid always had two GBA's at their disposal. It might be because the e-reader awkwardly plugged into the Gamecube, though I found a page on their site that explains how to use the e-reader in this setup. What a bizarre product. I remember I wanted to trade it into Gamestop back in the day and they offered me a DIME for it lol so I just kept it. Its weirdness is lovable in a certain way.

    Resident Evil 4 was in development for a long time and actually hit the reset button 3 times before getting what we got, we got Code Veronica Port aka Code Veronica X, not only as a limited released on the gamecube, but a a much larger release on ps2, getting a greatest hits version as well, but it was basically to hold us over till we got Re4 (because CV was suppose to stay on the Dreamcast as a spin off), First game that was suppose to be RE4 was Onimusha, released Jan 25th 2001 with in the launch year of the ps2, it was re worked and turned into Onimusha, instead of RE4, next game was Devil may Cry, still with in the first launch year of the ps2, coming out in aug 23rd 2001 again was suppose to be re4, but didn't make the cut, but still also seen potential as a game, and was re worked and re named to devil may cry, and as you can see both onimusha and devil may cry played very similar, to each other, and i also think they both used the same engine as Code veronica, when then we got the port of Code veronica on the ps2 aug 21st 2001 2 days before devil may cry, because they knew they had to give us something to hold us over for re4 since they reworked yet another game ( Devil may cry) into a different game. then we got shown RE 3.5 (the paranormal re4) which ran off the new engine that they created for RE4, which again scraped and re worked from the ground up to get the re4 we got today. lol RE 4 was literally being worked on for 5 years, because planning and development started right after re3, and was being worked on along side with code verionica. Also another reason why CV was skipped for a remake and went straight to 4, Originally was suppose to be a non cannon spin off to cater to re2 fans pacifically Clair fans.... though some how it was made cannon when CVX came out but capcom still chooses to ignore it as they basically re write the RE series lol. sorry for the long winded comment, but seeing the RE4 spread in that book, all this info just flooded my mind, and reminded me damn re4 had a hell of a rough development cycle .

    I know EXACTLY what he is talking about with that Jimmy Neutron vs. Jimmy Negatron PC game demo. We got a CD ROM with 3 Nickelodeon game demos on it that came in the package of a Puffs Tissues 3 pack for back to school shopping back in 2004 I believe

    I forgot all about this thing. I don't remember how I got it, but I would spend hours pouring over each page even though I didn't have a Gamecube and wouldn't get one until I was in my mid 20s.

    To Scott:
    Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition was practically a sequel to the GBA version of Deadly Alliance, which tried to emulate the console version's 3D gameplay.

    They used to play the original Wallace and Gromit short films on Cartoon Network back in the late 90s/early 2000s. That's how I discovered them.

    I noticed you passed over Metal Arms: Glitch in the System on one of the 'worst' pages in the gamecube section of the catalog, but thats a seriously amazing game! Absolutely recommend, I think it still holds up pretty well in 2022.

    The feeling of getting those old ok quality licensed games, small ideas and studios getting AAA type of releases with big boxes and manuals... we are getting old.
    Also, now after watching this, i feel more confident on talking about the mexican Club Nintendo magazines that i own, that will be on my second channel as well, but idk when i'll be able to do it... its still a very fun idea to see how and what Nintendo was promoting at a certain time, in my case, the magazines i own start from 2006, and the Hamtaro game featured on this 2003 catalogue reminded me of a DS version of the same game i think, one that had a full page dedicated to it on one of my old CN magazines.

    Well to be fair, with Battle Network 3 starting the 'two version' cycle, it wasn't the intention; 3 came out as a single game in Japan first, and later got an enhanced version with the subtitle Black; adding in new chips/battles/forms to set it apart from the original release to give it its own appeal, but mainly it was done to create a version of the game that lacked hardly any game-breaking bugs. Then when it came time to bring the game stateside, they pretty much had to bring them over in a pair; with the bugfixes being in both versions if I recall correctly.
    I'd say the two games cycle TRULY started with the 4th game; they went all in with that shit.

    I don't remember ever seeing a "jett black" SP, per se. I had one that was black metallic though, one of the original AGS-001 models with the dimmer screen, so they might've launched side-by-side with the metallic silver ones.

    I actually have that Indigo Clear, and it holds up really well considering clear plastic is known to be already super fragile, and become exponentially worse with age. Only issue mine has is the little bit of yellowing, but that's expected.
