    In case you're wondering, the games excluded in the last few pages are the edutainment games, which includes the Mario's Early Years and Teaches Typing series, as well as Mario's Time Machine and Mario Is Missing, also Hotel Mario They were literally that embarrassed about them, yet they included the small cameo in Earthbound. Nintendo has an insecurity, I see

    • @shyguy85

      Actually it's because those games didn't come out in Japan. Dr Mario 64 isn't there, because it didn't release in Japan. But Nintendo Puzzle Collection which includes DRM64 is. And that only released in Japan.

    • @alexandercorbett1147
      @alexandercorbett1147 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it's more because Nintendo themselves never made those games, they just licensed them. They were made during an era when Nintendo was way more liberal with access to their IPs (as compared to now when they will just shut down anything made by fans no matter what). During the early to mid 90s, this was when those games, Hotel Mario and the CDI Zelda games, and the 1993 Mario movie came out, Nintendo had little to no say in what went on in those projects other than giving approval to the rights to use anything related to the IP and they were made by independent developers and publishers.

    Regarding the long jump in 2D Mario, we do get at small taste of what it would be like in Mario maker 2 (with the 3D World style). It would honestly be kinda nice if they added more of those moves which are still relegated to 3D Mario in Wonder, like the crouch jump going higher then a normal one..

    • @TyGuy2462

    it’s so interesting to me that scott is having this realization about how long-standing the mario art style is. i’ve always thought of it as the historic/traditional mario art style, the one they’ve always had but that’s been slowly modernized over time and isn’t used as frequently now, and yet scott is looking at this old art like “wow it’s so modern and current!”
    i think scott and i are around the same age, so i’m not sure what’s causing the discrepancy. maybe it depends what title you started with? neat

    I think the reason why super mario usa was ported back to japan was because doki doki panic was a promotional game for the yume kojo festival and nintendo did not own those characters so pretty much every mario 2 rerelease in japan going forward was super mario usa as nintendo doesn't feel it was worth bugging fuji tv to rerelease a game starring characters that were retired after the festival ended when they had a much cheaper alternative to keep the game alive. its similar to how every rerelease of punch out is the mr dream version and not the mike tyson version.

    Good thing that they consider the Mario Land series canon. It justifies the existence of Wario and Daisy as mainline characters and where they came from (unlike Waluigi).

    So many mistakes noticed, and yet I'm barely paying attention as i assumble furniture. The festival _Yume Kōjō_ is *Dream Machine* in English, with _Dream Factory_ being the common fan translation.
    Similarly, _Famicom Disk System_ is incorrect and just an fan name for it (at least by English speakers) as it is always officially called the *Family Computer Disk System*, as the name "Famicom" was copyrighted by Sharp till sometime after the disk system came out. Then the two made a deal so Nintendo could use the name.
    The Super Mario themed named in Mother 2 is Japan-only. NoA changed them to Tyler, Holly, Sean, Aziz, Rover, bread, and gaming.

    That Luigi render in Galaxy isn't made for Galaxy. If you see the description of the image that is in the wiki that Scott showed, it says that it comes from Mario Party 8. So it was just Mario Party 8 art reused for Super Mario Galaxy for some reason. That reminds me of how the Toad artwork from Mario Party 6 is used for New Super Mario Bros. where literally no Toad other than Toadsworth appears in it. Just search whatever Nintendo press kit around that time and you will eventually encounter the one for NSMB, and see that it has that Toad artwork slipped in there for some reason.

    23:06 This is like considering Yoshi's Story as Super Mario Bros. 6 because Yoshi's Island had the subtitle of being a sequel to Super Mario World, which was presumably subtitled as Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan.

    its funny how Nintendo will acknowledge damn near anything in the "all games" section Except for Hotel Mario and the edutainment games. I mean for Hotel Mario and a few of the edutainment games you could argue they don't count since they're not on Nintendo consoles but what's Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machines' excuse other then Nintendo hates them?

    As a "local Sunshine hater" I feel like I kinda have to talk about this. It's different for different people of course, but me not liking Sunshine has nothing to do with the completion bonus - in fact, when you've already completed the game, what kind of in-game bonus would even suffice when you probably won't even keep playing the game much after that, without starting a new safe file? To me, the satisfaction of finally getting everything done in a game is its own reward, and a postcard to signify it, while not very flashy, is still all I need to feel like my effort had been ackowledged.
    But the problem for me is that the path to get there is just filled with so many annoying moments that I just really am unable to bring myself to say that it's been an enjoyable experience. Well, some parts of it were, but other parts just really tested my patience.
