    You really got to be a committed person to work at UPS spend years working at a warehouse to get a driver position and then you have to stay to make sure that it’s worth it by driving for probably at least three years. I got my CDL would’ve loved to work for UPS but after 1.5 years of driving I was over that. I took that money reinvested it into a new skill now I specialize in redecking swimming pools. I really love my job but man I have to admit I still think about if I would have been a UPS driver. Grass is always greener on the other side.

    PSA: UPS typically hires drivers from within the company - it’s not common that they post driving jobs to anybody as we are in a union. They only do once they’ve exhausted the list of *union employees* who want to drive and are then desperate to find drivers.
    The typical route to becoming a driver involves starting part time in the warehouse. Then once you gain 6 months seniority you can sign up on the driver lists, they are posted in the hub for 1 month in October, some hubs do April too. They will also post emergency driving lists at other times when needed, still before hiring off the streets. The lists then go by highest seniority, so depending how many drivers are needed you might be waiting for a long time, like years. Then the driving school they send you to is very rigorous, I work with a few guys who did not make it through and were sent back to the hub.
    I also work with many 22.4 “drivers” who are stuck in the hub right now, please note that 22.4 is not the same as a regular driver…. it’s a driving/inside combo. You’re basically a cover driver when needed but are sent inside the hub when not needed to drive, you’re not paid the same and I’ve heard people get stuck in that position not able to be come a real driver.

    I don’t mean any disrespect but I feel like this video is super misleading and leaves out a lot of information and is too oversimplified. I’m a local CDL driver and I work around UPS truck drivers all day every day at the warehouses we all go to and all of them have told me that everyone starts out in the warehouse as a part timer. It appears that UPS and the Teamsters only like to hire drivers from within.
    I applied to be a seasonal driver helper (person on the UPS box truck that helps deliver packages during the holidays) like 7 years ago and the lady in orientation basically scoffed and laughed at me when I asked why we were being told we were going to be working in the warehouse when I applied to be a driver helper.
    UPS is a very difficult company to get into and even harder to move up in once you get hired. It’s not uncommon for people to be part timers for as long as 10 years before they get selected to become full time or become drivers.

    Don’t waste your time, you can start making driver money at other companies. I worked for UPS for 4 years, from unloading trucks is were you start to loading and sorting the belts packages. You go buy your hire date and when you sign up to drive. After 4 years they still hadn’t got to my name. Working two jobs because UPS only gives you four hours each day. It was just too hard. I’m starting as a pre loader in hopes to someday get on a truck, been a Delivery driver and package courier since I graduated high school, I started out with DHL , then Amazon Dsp Deliveries, then went to FedEx Ground Delivery services, I conversed with a few Ups drivers in my area and knew this was the move I had to make in my career as a package delivery driver, I’m not fond of the idea of working inside of a building but knowing the possibility that I could make it to driver position is worth it, I’m use to the long days heavy lifting and the need to rush to get the packages delivered on a set time schedule, what really got me interested in working for Ups is the structure, benefits, the ability to move up in positions and the respect UPS has over other delivery services.

I was offered to go back to local saw, but I was so embarrassed that I just couldnt do it. I've seen some videos and comments from a lot of the employees that gives a dreary view of UPS today. In their defense, I have to say, the company has always taken care of me and is still doing so, hopefully the rest of my life. On the other hand, as a office clerical nonunion, my job had been at risk since 1996 when they started cutbacks. And as far as I know, almost every clerical position has been deleted or outsourced.

    When I looked up UPS delivery driver jobs, there's only about 40 listed in the entire country. Typing "RPCD" doesn't work, nothing comes up. Is there some other way to become a driver? If I become a package handler at a warehouse nearby, will I get a chance to become a driver soon after? Not sure how to do it. Live in NJ near Philadelphia by the way.

    • @macwhite7257
      @macwhite7257 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s because they don’t usually post the jobs to people on the street. They hire drivers from within the company, so yes absolutely become a package handler first. But you won’t be driving right away, you need to have 6mo before you can sign up on the driving list that is only posted a couple times a year and goes by seniority.

    Does ups give you a sequence of stops like 1-2-3-4-5 and you go in order or is it just a bunch of dots on a map and you figure it out because I worked for FedEx Express and they just had a bunch of dots on a map when I was there and about 5 pickups per route with hour long commit times and we were told to just figure it out

    • @Randywithups2
