    I completely agree with you. The older 1800 had good drop bar protection. It seems that they ignored all the user protections on the new ones. It is also difficult to tie them down in a trailer too.
    I had to use a rental trailer once and I was concerned about it swaying. I tied it down using the handle bars and found that is a no no. You can't tie down to the steering column any more either.
    Love the bike but it is too delicate to really use.

      I ‘m learning the work arounds. It is more delicate than the previous generations.

    All the previous generations of Goldwings were protected very well in a tip over. Honda knows very well that Wings are used in Top Gun competition. They dropped the ball on this new design.

    Rich, a great video discussion topic. With our bikes having an 850lb dry weight, gravity usually wins regardless of how proficient of a rider we are or how careful we may be. Before my 2018 Goldwing Tour I rode a BMW K1200LT. Similar dry weight but more too heavy than the Goldwing. I dropped it 3 different times and no speed. Once in the garage, once in my driveway and once in a parking lot. The difference is BMW’s integrated engine case protection tip-over bars prevented any damage mechanically or cosmetically. Even lighter weight R1250RT’s have OEM and aftermarket engine case protection tip-over bars available. Knock on wood, I haven’t tipped mine over but having protection like the bars you put on would be a significant saver!

      Absolutely Tim. I don’t care how careful we are. Dropping your bike is a high probability. I am starting to really bond with Ruby. Want to minimize any damage not only in practicing but overall. Thanks for that. Ride safe.

    Love the handle “Rich the return rider” as most of us old guys are returning to riding after various time of not riding. So many aides to riding available online as well as some excellent advanced riding courses. We need to be able to safely manoeuvre our motorcycles at both parking lot speeds as well as at highway speeds. Our skill level will not improve without regular practice. Btw still waiting for max to complete his tip over protection product. Helibar also has some tip over protection for the2018+ wing in development as well. Cheers.

      Wade,, wade. Thanks my friend. All I keep hearing is folks returning to riding after many years. 20, 30 years now back in the seat with all the resources now that I never heard of before. Us old guys eating it all up on the second go around. Learning all the fundamentals. I can’t wait to see what Max comes up with. Practice practice. I love it as much as just riding. Thanks for watching. Ride safe.

    100% agree Rich. Honda seriously need to consider, at minimum, an optional engine, storage case protection system. Honda designed that goes a step or two beyond mere “tip-over protection”. Functionally similar but Engine and Storage Case drop guards are beyond a tip-over. Now to safety of a different kind. Safety awareness and helping other motorists to see you. Robert Simmons, as you well know, a man widely known for his surgeon, scalpel-like slow speed skills is not only a huge proponent building confidence on your motorcycle, but making his bikes look ever-present through high lumen LED lighting. Ever notice that? He’s a billboard of brilliance. Not only for the bling factor but the “can you see me now” factor. You gotta agree, you can see him. I fully expect you now or in the future checking out Gold Strike, Pathfinder, Ciro and Custom Dynamics. Ride safe and often. Peace.

      Absolutely. Again RG you hit it out the park. Just added some lights on the forks and the rear with a modulater. Just returned from Daytona BIKEtober fest. It is time to add some functional Bling To The Wing. It’s in the works my friend. Thanks for that. Ride safe and keep the great info coming.

    Great insight on drop guards for your Goldwing. I have a 2012 Honda Goldwing and the drop guards I have work perfectly. I have dropped my Goldwing a few times without incurring any damage. Honda has to do better so hopefully, they will listen to their consumers. Be safe and God Bless!

    Great review!!
    I’m a wheel officer(motor officer) and I’ve got the same feelings, in regard to if I can’t find protection then I’ll move to another motorcycle that provides it, if needed. It’s a great skill to have and let’s be real it’s just a ton of fun, haha. I’m in touch with a fabricator that is willing to modify the factory setup to work better, like you showed but with a little more of my spin on them. Love this Gold Wing so I’ll invest in something custom for it. Keep going with the great videos!

    Great video Rich. Interesting that it didn't go that far over with the guards on. That's a great point on getting them. However you know mine is a 2015 so they came with it. And I still think they should come from factory this way. Be safe sir.

    one suggestion since I've already been through this issue. Is You might put some non-folding hwy pegs or something like that on your existing crash bars. As the bike starts to roll over this would probably act as a stop because its sticking out 3-4" and is at the top half of the crash bars. The bars would slow it down then MAYBE the NON-FOLDING Hwy pegs would prevent it from going all the way over..
    PS. The bike with the best Tip over protection by a long shot is the Victory Cross Country Tour. Almost impossible to tip it over on its side. Plenty of videos of them crashing on purpose and it stops at a 45 degree angle. I had this bike before I bought the 2018 Goldwing and loved it.

    • @richthereturnrider6737
      @richthereturnrider6737  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sound like a good idea but would not want footpegs that could not fold in. I like the protection you have welded to the back. Look like that did the trick. I’ll test ride the Victory but no nothing about that bike.

  • @baldrider

    I bought my bike pre-tipped over on both sides so both mirrors are currently scarred up. The previous owner had the saddlebags repaired/repainted. I want to do one of those slow-speed classes but not until a more reputable company (looking at you, Traxxion Dynamics) provides a better tipover solution.

    • @richthereturnrider6737
      @richthereturnrider6737  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Understand. They seem to be more companies duplicating the bars. Traxxion Dynamics and many of the Goldwing fabrication co. Don’t seem to think this is important enough to address. I believe these classes is that important.

    Looks like they are out of stock. The options are becoming more plentiful. Still woefully missing the rear protection options at this point. Might have to go with custom or 1 off. The previous generation was pretty good. Especially when beefed up with shaft collars.

      @richthereturnrider6737  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. Still looking for a better option. Until then this is it for me. The previous generation protection was definitely good.

    Rich have you considered adding training wheels to your goldwing, to prevent it from falling on its side? They automatically deploy when you speed id between 0and 15 miles per hour.

    • @richthereturnrider6737
      @richthereturnrider6737  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do a video on them so I could see how they work. If I like them I’ll try them.

    Hi big Cubano rich. Have you considered buying a 2023 honda goldwing

    • @richthereturnrider6737
      @richthereturnrider6737  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Would like the more space available in the trunk but don’t offer the blue or the white. The two optional colors I really like. If I was in the market I would buy the 2021 or 2022 to get the blue.

    Rich, I love your videos, but I don't understand why people pay for courses that result in damaging their bike. If instructors are watching you drop your bike, then they aren't doing what you're paying them for. You are paying them to be instructors, not testers.

    • @richthereturnrider6737
      @richthereturnrider6737  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark. Nobody is forcing you to do what you can’t do. You might want to challenge yourself to be the best rider you can be. The 1rst thing you’re encouraged to do is to protect your bike. Motorcycling is dangerous stuff. Folks with decades of riding experience shouldn’t be struggling with making basic Uturns, left and right turns. My goal is not to just ride but to be a great rider. I always say. I am not the typical Goldwing rider. It’s not just about covering mileage. It’s about knowing what I am doing.

    • @markman7
      @markman7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richthereturnrider6737 Rich, I just feel these instructors who tout their courses should probably work more with riders who may not be ready for some of the challenges. They should know the characteristics of all production bikes and should teach accordingly. Have a HD touring class, or a Goldwing class for example to better focus on the characteristics of what the group is riding. They're all different. I got off my Street Glide once and right onto my Softail Deuce and I almost dropped it because it handled so differently going from FL to FX.
