    Moisture meter has been my biggest game changer. Helps determine how much to water and more importantly, when. I’ve found pots I thought dry, wet 4-5” down, and ones I thought were good, needed a drink. So basic, but level up tool.

    Hey there, great video as usual! [If I haven't said it already, 'happy new year!'] I already accredit you with my purchase of the water probe meter. Despite being a plant parent of too many years to mention, I have been known to be guilty of going through the odd occasional phases of overwatering (my birkin was suffering from overwatering and bad placement 🙈 so I'm in love with it again😍). This meter has been a real eye opener and plant saver! Funny enough I'm currently awaiting a very similar repotting mat to the one you've showed simply because of it's ability to secure the corners and form a little barrier to stop all the planty mess from spilling everywhere. I finally got fed up of using dustbin bags🤣 So thank you very much for all the other tips!

    I love seeing your channel do so well, so quickly! Can't wait to see you catch up to Planterina!
    I've been experimenting with a Pteris fern I bought from the aquarium store I work at, and I broke up the plant into halves and put one half in a closed terrarium environment and the other half in a terracotta pot. The furnace is on the other side of the wall from me so the air in my room can get fairly dry without the use of a humidifier. The Pteris in the terrarium has done wonderfully, while the one in the pot droops a bit and threatens to dry out if I don't water it every couple of days.
    With the light meter, what I've learned from aquatic plants is that PAR is very important as well, as PAR measures how much light a plant can use for photosynthesis. PAR in this reference stands for "Photosynthetic Active Radiation" and it is the wavelengths of light within the visible range of 400 to 700 nanometers which drive photosynthesis. In aquarium settings, PAR values can change within a few millimetres and can be affected by a myriad of things, from where the light itself is to where the plant is planted within the tank. If you have a PAR reader on you, you can also use this to measure the amount of light your house plants are using.

    • @SheffieldMadePlants
      @SheffieldMadePlants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much. Great info about PAR. I wasn’t familiar and it’s great to learn something new 👍

    Just the other day I noticed my pothos had climbed up the wall totally by itself🤨... It had attached on the surface of the painted stone wall. I was a little upset because I fear the wall paint could get damaged. I've had problems with a monstera too attaching itself into a painted side table, because it grew horizontally... My husband joked that some day he'll wake up and the plants will be choking him, because they are already acting aggressively with their "tentacles" (=aerial roots and vining stems) pushing all directions...

    I have a moisture meter. I bought it when I first became interested in houseplants. I still have it, but I don’t use it for its intended purpose. 😜 I use it to poke compacted soil to loosen and aerate it. I didn’t find the meter to be very consistent or accurate, but maybe I got a dud. I think it’s money better spent to make your own chunky aerated soil mix. “Overwatering” becomes nonexistent when you provide plant roots with the oxygen they need.

    Those glass terrariums are so pretty, but are they really a good idea with the succulents shown? Seems like a moisture trap and therefore a recipe for rot. But they could be great for some moss or some more tropical plants

    Those plastic watering bulbs could be an interesting learning experience.....yes they are GREAT for their watering capabilities BUT it would also be interesting to see how differentnplants' water needs are. I've seen such a huge water needs difference between plants, pots made of different materials, pot shapes, places in my home. It would be interesting to see how differently the bulbs need to be refilled, it could give some insight into different care for different plants. This wouldnt be feasible necessarily for someone with a LOT of plants, who's going to buy that many bulbs just for that? Lol. But it could teach someone like me a thing or two about my plants since I don't have a huge number. I personally, quite like watering my plants individually though. It gives me a chance to really inspect them and I enjoy the day to day care
