every time I watch a new C.E. episode, I'm always a little bit apprehensive about the possibility of the entire review being done in a drunk pirate accent.
Eh, I didn't think the accent was THAT bad. I prefer normal episodes, but I still enjoyed cutthroat island review.
To be fair...the rum probably had a lot to do with that one.

The character who constantly makes things worst for the party in the game I run? The one with the highest Wisdom stat.

She probably has a high intelligence stat but a very, VERY low wisdom stat.

The description is an unforgotten realms reference....I love this channel.
I think D&D lends itself better to a television series because it's naturally episodic. Sure, there's overarching plots in a campaign, but every one I've been in as been structured so that each session had a somewhat satisfying ending. It would allow you to, say, have an episode that's mostly a dungeon crawl with some humor, and it wouldn't necessarily drag the pacing of the whole show down if written well.
Oh. Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas next month? Kick ass! I've been waiting for you to release that since it came to DVD.

Why does it feel like I'm watching a lost Merlin episode. To the point where I wonder (a phrase I use loosely) when Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Angel Coulby and Katie McGrath were going to show up.
GOD I wish Richard Wilson and Anthony Stewart Head was in this.

did you know their characters are based on actual PCs made by Gygax (R.I.P.) himself, he even gave the actors the Player's Handbook with tabs for each one.
I had a D&D game where I was a constable in a building that had been taken over by thieves posing as orcs during the winter solstice. I lost my boots but things got even when I got the repeating crossbow.

If this movie is starting to sound like "Krull," it's probably because that movie started off as a D&D movie early in development, so that might explain a few things.

a possible solution to many of the conceptual problems of a dungeons and dragons based film would be to take one of the novels that were written in the frenchise rather than try to reinvent it cinematically
This movie can't be worse than the third, i remember what was the story at least.
I thought it couldn't get worse... at least they covered more of the source material, even if GoT does show up quite a bit.

I wouldn't really say that the heroes' names are inspired by GRRM. Oberon is from Roger Zelazny's book Hand of Oberon. Berik was a Gothic king. Dorian might be a reference to Oscar Wilde's character. And Valerius is a generic Roman sounding name.
Maybe it would be better as a tv show, in the mid 90s, after Xena Hercules and Sinbad

In alternate universe where Hollywood wasn't run by soulless, uncreative producers you'd think that movies titled Mario, dungeons and dragons, resident evil would be films you'd see in the list of top 50 highest grossing films. You have this product that everyone around the world either loves or is familiar with. You hire the best director in the business, spare no expense, create a perfect blend of tribute and creative license and sit up back while the billion dollar profit roles in. I think they only thought the first part of that formula and wanted to experiment on how shitty they could make these ops before they flopped.
You realize half of those franchises have a crap story.
You know: because this sequel takes place 100 years after the first one, it makes sense that the accent on how to pronounce `Izmir' has changed.
Though, right now, i'm just imagining the director saying: ``yeah, evolving languages, that was totally what we went for...'' ;D
Also, you didn't mis much, whitout the third movie. I once binge-watched all three in a row, and my summeries are:
- the first one is bad, but personally i think it's funny-bad
- the second one is quite dull
- and the third one is REALLY dull, and occasionally a bit gross Xp

One funny/sad thing, is that I actually watched this during its original air time on SciFi and EVERY commercial break there would be a quick Comment page with some little D&D rule from a players manual before the show would start again...
I saw the 1st movie and laughed my butt off.
It took more than 35 years to make sequels to make sequels to Top Gun and Blade Runner. It was 46 years in the case of The Wizard of Oz.
I bought this dvd for 5$, and the commentary is better than the movie.

I think the third D&D movie is probably the best of the lot. It follows a mostly evil party and references "the Book of Vile Darkness" for a lot of it's material. Not really a family picture but a better compromise between movie and a recorded D&D session.
I'd probably have the barb beat the BBEG into forgetting his role, lol.
I admit that I liked this one better.
I get that Nim's actor is a bit short but that's no reason to call him a halfling.
He's never referred to as such and according to Wikipedia he is indeed a human (apparently their character sheets are glimpsed in DVD bonus features)...

You should do Dungeons and Dragons the Book of Vile Darkness. Not everyone seems to know about that film.
They took away all of Damadar's fighting skills in the sequel. That could have been an epic duel for the climax but it just ended up being a missed opportunity. Intuition tells me that the upcoming reboot will be much the same except with modern special effects.

I watched this movie when I was 11... and made almost the same joke you did when the cleric died. I personally enjoy the Dungeons and Dragons movies as staples of Bad Movie Night, though when it comes to the first one I mostly just skip to all the glorious scenery-chewing Jeremy Irons scenes. *waves hand* YATATATATATATA!

I don't mind the lack of continuity. Anything that makes this its own movie is for the good. It's not a good movie by big-screen-release standards, but it's not as bad as the first and it does get closer to the feel of a D&D troupe in a campaign.

You can't really blame them for going to eastern Europe.
A ton of big budget movies go to Eastern Germany or eastern Europe, because they can find places their grandpas didn't bomb to bits and that can easily be "fixed up" to look period-correct.

This is how I see the dumb moments in this movie. The players roll a nat 20 on whatever the fuck they were doing, and the dm just said "Fuck it and roll with it"
Its like a bad day at Gen Con in the late 80s.
