  • In this video we show how to repair the drum brakes and replace them on this drum brake replacement video for dodge dakota & dodge durango. It should be the same for most drum brake repairs and the replacement procedure should be pretty similar with the auto adjuster and spring kit as this style setup has been around for many years. Here we replace the shoes and drums with just standard tools.

I've done many drum break jobs. All of them were agrivating. I learned a lot from the vid. that will make it easier. Thank you for a great tutorial.

Thank you for making this video. It was very descriptive. One tip I would like to share after following your directions, @1:04 use a small rat tail file without a wood handle to push latch @2:24. The rat tail file grips the slot and stays in place if you are creative, and allows both of your hands to rotate the clock-wheel with a flathead screwdriver.

I sure don’t miss having drum brakes! Great video, only thing you might want to add is lubing the contact points with the backing plate and the brake shoes.

Great video. Also, be aware he switched sides during video. The adjusting screw is not the same for both sides. Don't mix them up. The threaded end goes toward the front of the truck. The adjusting lever needs to be against the adjusting wheel so it doesn't back off.

@@jennah5460 It's one of those things that looks hard until you actually get into it. Then it's just a simple puzzle. The hardest part is to get the old brake drum off. Instead of trying to turn the dial backwards, like he did. I highly recommend to just take an angle grinder and CUT IT OFF !! th-cam.com/video/zRXKAfv5mRo/w-d-xo.html

I put everything brand new on my 01 durango and sometimes the brakes grab and in due time no matter what they always being to pulsate. and that's with all new hardware front and rear including drums and rotors. I also experienced this with my 2000 durango when I had it. Have you experienced any of this?

My right rear brake backing plate hit the ground after my lugs snapped off and tire flew. Needless to say I got to replace the break backing plate. They stopped making the backing plate can I take one off a Durango from the same years?
