Hi and thanks for uploading this content, I own a 16 plate octavia hatchback 1.4 tsi, dsg box and I was worried at times that this could be a costly fix but you put my worries at ease 😅 . It pops up every now and then, when I had extended warranty in place with Arnold Clark I asked them to look into the matter and they couldn't find anything even tho I provided a picture of the error pop up and they said they can't fix something that it's not broken...now it's doing my headin every few weeks
Hey thanks for the comment this would be the fix for that fault and they would also find a fault code in 0016 steering control module, part number is in the description if your selector lever matches this video. Many thanks for your kind words :)
I’ve just added the right micro switch from tps but hasn’t worked. No fault codes after deleting
Thanks for the video. I just installed the micro switch yesterday and it works like charm, so no annoying alarms after more than six months. The dealership here in Hungary wanted 1000 eur for the fix. (I guess they wanted to swap the whole gear selector). Anyways a huge thank you for your help.

Can this mistake "only leave vehicle in P position" cause any damage to the gearbox?
It apears on my škoda octavia 2018 1.6 TDI, I run a diagnostick and it says it is b116229 position lever 😮.

Thanks for the video. I fitted the new microswitch this afternoon and all seems fine - no error messages! Dealer wanted £106 plus vat just to diagnose the fault then more dosh to fix it. Fix cost me £36. Found it a bit tricky working in the tight area around the gear lever but worth the effort.

Could this issue cause the 645 relay to get hot. I have this code and my 645 relay gets noticeably hotter than all other relays. Also seems to throw more codes the hotter the relay gets

I have a 2017 skoda fabia monte carlo with this problem. I took into skoda yesterday. They had it for the day and called up saying its going to cost £1900 to fix the issue. Needs a whole new leaver assembly to fix the fault switch lol. There are no issues with the gearing at all. Drives perfectly. Had it from new with only 21k miles on the clock. Crazy repair cost.
How much does this part fix cost?
It could be because this part isn’t available for the selector lever fitted into your vehicle

Hello. I am from India and I too, like many other users was facing Error B116229 - Leave car in park. I bought 5Q0-713-128-A from ebay and fixed it in my Skoda Octavia. However, it made the problem worse. Moreover, it was a static fault rather than a intermittent fault which I had originally. I checked the mounting and both the connections and I found them in locked properly. I have since reverted to original connection. What do you suggest I should do? Did I get a faulty microswitch?
Was at a genuine part of a copy/non genuine part

Arghhhhhh fitted the booming gen vw Skoda black switch to the black casing on my 2014 Octavia 2.0 tdi , And dam error is still coming on, mostly opening door 1st thing in the AFTERNOON 🫣or rear doors, ding ding & 3 mins later another ding. While driving then 2 days free of dings if am lucky Driving me nuts. Any other investigation I can do, vcds fault codes in auto & steering,
Just a quick note loads of a yellow sponge all round my black casing took my ages to remove

I need help with this. My usual garage quoted over £1000 to replace entire system and said there was no other way. This seems another way. I am in North London and a bit of an old lady so could do with recommendation of a garage that might do this.
Any garage can do this :) the part number is in the video description and very very easy to fit so their is no need to replace the whole selector unit

On your video you can really see how you connect microswitch. In minute 2 of the installation it would help if you provide visual guides where you connect what.
It’s just in a loop buddy you can see the plug that needs to come out and it’s the same looking plug that goes in

I have a Octavia vrs 2016 place 4x4, would this remove the Error: workshop! Only leave vehicle in Position P' issue.

Just trying this fix now but I must be doing something wrong. Fitted the microswitch but if I then move the lever to park in still getting the original error plus 'Error: gearbox' and the lever is locked in park. Only way to resolve is to remove the microswitch.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi, great video thanks, subbed! My golf is throwing an engine light some days when I start it up, drives fine otherwise. Hi bud, does the ZF or 3Q0-713-128 A… Switch only apply to 2017 FL onwards as seen in the video. Am needing one for 2014 Octavia 2.0L. This error is dinging on/off every blinking 3 mins 😢arghhh😢
Any chance you could advise if you’d change water bottle to non silicon one ? as air con is cold drivers sides but passenger sides luke warm. Heater working ok tho so far. Just bought the car last week, ahhh the joys…. Timing belt /water pump & DSG oil getting done Monday
So i got this error in a Octavia 4. Says it has something to do with the gear shifter button not being in park mode. Do you know if this switch that works on Octavia 3 can fix the problem in the 4th generation or there is no other solution except changing the whole button mechanism. Much apreciated for your answer!
No mate the repair for the mk3 does not cross over to the mk4

Hi Rob, Thanks for the excellent video, Just one question, should the top screw in the slot be tightened on completion, or left as it came out of the box, and the top peice move against the spring when pushing the gear lever forward into Park position ? Thanks 🙂
Hey thanks for the question the little piece that slides when you fit it should be tightened once your all fitted and in the correct position

Hey so you install it in a loop so you unplug the selector unit (black plug with a bright blue slide tab on it) and then connect the new microswitch into the existing wiring to form the loop

Terms and conditions will always apply to warranty matey but should all point to a manufacturer defect then there should be no reason it wouldn’t be sorted for you under the warranty
Hi m8, hey tell me something. So I have the same problem I fitted the micro switch but it still tells me to put it in p or n to start the engine like before and it tells me this every time the glow plug light flashes, if I leave the car a few hours and the light stops flashing the engine will turn over and I can drive the car. Any ideas of what could it be...

My car keeps saying something about done exit car unless in park but it’s in park and turned off and the little exclamation mark comes up and my trunk wouldn’t pop open I just bought this car it’s a 2019 Jetta 67,000 miles atm I’m beyond annoyed doesn’t seem to be doing anything else strange but I’m worried and of course the dealership is if no help and can’t get me in for weeekkksss

If your lever looks the same as the one in the video buddy there’s a good chance it will work….i just filmed it on a 2018 vehicle

Nope not really it’s more of an annoyance worst case it can allow you to remove your keys from Ignition without it being in park and if you forget your handbrake it could lead to your car rolling away

Hi i fitted the swtich as per video can i say very helpful. But still have to pull lever back to neutral then back to park and give the lever a wiggle to start car. No codes present any advuce thanks.

Hey thanks for the message that’s great :) it sounds like it’s not quite close enough to the lever there are 2 screws on the top of it to bring the switch closer to the lever so you don’t have to wiggle or anything give that a try
I get this fault occasionally now I seem to get that the park pilot is not available, it was intermittently happening now the park pilots is most of the time I put in reverse could it be this switch?

I'm locksmith dom an AKL just didn't do the programming right.
Had to reprogram the prox again correctly.
Then everything went right.
How do you know if you need this while or black microswitch part? (without opening your own to look)
You would need to Atleast lift the handbrake gaitor to see which lever is fitted into your vehicle

I wouldn’t use a non branded one as I don’t trust em buddy so would recommend genuine however can’t comment on rapid never done one on a rapid but I imagine it’s the same as a fabia
Thanks for responding, mines a rapid spaceback and it says error workshop only leave vehicle in position p same gearbox I think as has yellow tab, so hopefully it’s the right part 🙏🏻 doesn’t come up all the time it’s very intermittent. But appreciate your reply and video as was panicking it’s the gearbox on the way out as only just done meca tronics (sorry probably spelt incorrectly 😂)
My daughters 2016 Fabia has started doing this. She’s going to struggle to pay for an official repair. What would you recommend?
This repair is hugely cheaper than a new selector unit, the part number is in the description have a Google and see the price of it :)

Have you put the lever in park and pushed the new microswitch button upto the lever and tightened the bolts so the actual gearstick is Engaging the new little switch

I have the leave in park issue however SKODA dealer advises I have to replace the complete unit which will cost roughly £900 fitted I have a 2017 Superb 2L Petrol Auto DSG ... is there a work around switch solution or are there some Superb models that cannot use this please ? Last question if there is a fix will the switch need to be recoded by a main dealer ? many thanks.
Hey I am unable to check this for you as I don’t have acess to skoda systems only Volkswagen but I can’t say I’ve replaced one just the microswitch on a passat which is a skoda superb
@@TheVWMechanic_official Thanks so much for the quick response, my local gearbox guys say they don't know how to fix it so at the moment its £900 or doesn't get fixed which is crazy after the US ,Australian and NZ govt made VAG recall cars. If anyone has ideas who can help would appreciate it as i need to sort it before it gets worse. Maybe a video for the SKODA guys and I can drive up and you can show me your hairy knees !

Hi, Ive had this message appear intermittantly for 3years (golf mk7), more recently ive had an issue one morning where ive had error gearbox, an hour later it worked, error was U010300 lost communication with gear shift module. Do you think this fix could fix all my problems?
Hey thanks for the message so from what you’ve said you’ve actually experienced 2 different faults, this one detailed in this video will always have the fault code stored in 0016 steering control and the fault your experienced with loss of comms is another issue

I wouldn’t say the same no, i have to pull the lever down and left into manual mode so I’m guessing it’s different to this one if that’s how you mean mate.
Most dsg levers have a manual mode buddy message me on Instagram (TheVWMechanic) if that’s easier

Tps or your local skoda dealership is the best place. Make sure your happy with the diagnosis before fitting wouldn’t want you to waste money :)

Hi Mike, Thanks from Gothenburg. I own a Octavia 2019 1,0Tsi DSG. I get this error message randomly and dis appears in few seconds. 'only leave vehicle in position p. please visit workshop'. The dealer asks for 200 Pounds to diagnose and the add on cost for repair/replacement. Is it mandatory to fix it?. Or can i drive the car safely without fixing it?. It doesnt affect anything with engine or transmission right?.
Hey thanks, I’ve just finished work so I can reply now :) it won’t cause any driving issues as such but it won’t recognise park position so you could in theory remove your keys without it being In park but other than that it’s just an annoying warning that flashes on the dash a lot

I have a skoda octavia with a dsg gearbox, I can drive it 2 or 15 miles then I am getting a error gearbox message come up on my dashboard goes out but leave an orange triangle warning ⚠️ light on but the car isn't driving any differently?? don't know if you could throw any light on this matter.

Good evening, hope your well once the orange triangle is illuminated on your dash if your press the car button on your radio screen it will then show reports and a number next to it if you click on that it will show you what issue the car is seeing. Hope this helps give me a shout if you need any more hell

The part you mentioned has to be added to stop this msg coming. It means not replacing old one? Am I right?
You essentially add the new microswitch into the existing wiring which in turn removes the function of the original microswitch without physically taking the broken microswitch out the lever
