@@NotThatJonesShow Closer to around 8 years. He started in 1997, rushed through training and controlled in every aspect of his work and image in between injuries and things, that stretch isn't complete. He isn't present for the invasion and waits until receiving the proper agreement conditions before returning in 2003. His initial run ends with the first match against Lesnar. 13 years later, he shows up, to continue against Lesnar as well as go up against others occasionally. The poblem primarily stems from how successfully the promoters at WCW managed to imprint the "Juggarnaut" image on him, to the point where Goldberg isn't given the same leeway to step aside from his character. Couple that with the incomplete training and not really having a mentor to help him navigate the "Locker Room" side of things like other stars had, and you've got a guy who's stuck in a no-win situation of constantly being forced to "wing it" and hope that he says or does the right thing. Kevin Nash, Shane Helms, Undertaker, and even Bret Hart himself have called Goldberg one of the nicest guys you could ever meet in person, I feel like I have to mention that Deon Sanders (Primetime) still absolutely loves the guy. He's just been given very little to work with on the practical end.

Nobody thinks Goldberg intentionally hurt Brett. Goldberg was rushed through training and pushed instantly to the Main Events. Great for him, terrible for his opponents because he was sloppy, stiff and dangerous.
Hart took extreme pride in his ability to make wrestling look real, without actually hurting his opponents. Goldberg never truly had the opportunity to learn skill.

To be fair Goldberg said in an interview last year he's done apologizing. Every year or so Bret puts out a a new interview dogging Goldberg and only once ever having any thing nice to say about him him and just attacks him as Unprofessional and untrained.
The one time he didn't completely I annihilate his character even even admitted he got his bell wrong earlier in the match when the corner figure four went wrong and he hit his head on the ground and that was the first concussion he got in the match he got 2.
Also Goldberg always hit the kick on standing opponents as a controlled kick Bret insisted on calling the match in the ring because he was tired, and called running into the kick so neither are to be blamed for the kick spot in the grand scheme of it all

It's such an irony how someone like Bret Hart said about Bill Goldberg how unacceptable and selfish it was for kicking him so hard not realizing that wrestling wasn't real.
However Bret was the one who refused to lose to Shawn Michaels because he was the Canadian hero not carrying about putting the company that made him the millionaire into possible jeopardy as they were losing at that time to WCW big time. What an unselfish businessman who knows that wrestling isn't real.

To those saying Bill apologize enough
I agree, a family has forgiven Rey Mysterio for accidentally killing someone in the ring.
Sting holds no prejudice to Seth after almost ending his career (even when he thought it was ended).
    Same with Daniel Bryan..
What really ended Brett's career was all the matches after the fact and doing a Hardcore match with Terry Funk.
It's not like Goldberg was Brett's last ever match.
In WcW it was Kevin Nash.. I dunno if he had any matches when he went back to WWE all those years later.. but before that I know his very last match ever was against Kevin Nash!

    • @SP-rp4lk
      @SP-rp4lk ปีที่แล้ว +4

Not fair to compare Mysterio's case with this. It was a complete freak accident and not a result of any mistake on Rey's part unlike Goldberg's kick. He dropkicked the guy correctly, hitting him on the shoulder, the guy fell on the ropes and the whiplash from his head movement broke 3 vertebrae in his neck. Most likely he already had damage there though and that was just the final straw.
Also arguably when your move is to look like you're kicking someone in the head you should be more careful than with most other moves.

Wrestling is a 50/50 which was the point.. also watch the fcking kick to Bret's head.. he block's it.. and their al comparative.. just you marks never want to admit.. where as smart fans see it for what it really is.. an in ring accident that can happen by anyone at anytime...shit Owen Hart broke Austin's neck and didn't apologize or visit him... What because Owens dead/Bret's brother.. no one ever wants to bring that in the discussion.
Bret Hart, according to every other WcW wrestlers, was consistently unfocused.
Let's break down Bret's bitchin in his book.. he complained about dropping on his head during the Figure Four ring post spot . Everytime he pulled out that move in WcW.. he dropped on the back of his head.. especially with Booker T match when Bret Kayfabe injured Booker.. no one mentions that.. WcW apron to floor was less height than WWE(WcW also had a smaller ring).. Bret just didn't adapt his ring post spot for the new clearance.
So yes completely fair to compare in ring accidents especially with what we were eluding towards.. forgiveness.. comprehension/reliving the Monday Wars.. see for yourself..
And actually, for how poorly trained Goldberg was and the amount of matches he had.. his opponents being injured is way out numbered by some of the greats l.. and really your going to overlook the fact people forgave a death and a neck break over a untreated concussion? A injury that would be healed and forgotten if Bret took the right measures.
Edit - Next time I'll make sure im smart enough to realize what comment thread i am in before re-iterating the sentence I replaced with this Edit paragraph.

So don't ever ignore the fact that it doesn't matter that Bret wrestled more matches, had this match over any other match not happened he would have never had to worry about continuous strain to an existing injury in the first place. Here's how I see it. I never believed that Goldberg intentionally hurt Bret. There's no reason to think that he would have. They didn't have any issues with each other until that kick. So I can fully believe that what Goldberg is saying is true.
At the same time, I've never heard Bret say that it was intentional. He's always maintained that Goldberg was sloppy and still green in the ring. Which is probably also true.
WCW saw a money making pathway open up when they had Goldberg. So they put him in matches that lasted 3 minutes. They protected the fact that Goldberg was still very much learning even HOW to work. At this point he's just a big guy, who spent no time in any territories, or other promotions, or learned the craft anywhere else. He was learning weekly on WCW TV in matches that didn't even last as long as his entrance. I'm sorry but you don't learn if you don't practice, and he was getting minimal practice at the time.
So Goldberg is sorry, and has apologized, and to a degree I don't even think it was fully his fault. Bret has a point that Goldberg shouldn't have been working with the top guys, until he learns the business. By that point in his career, Bret had been working for 25 years. He worked in his dads territory in the 80s. He worked the undercard of WWF in the 80s/90s as a tag team. He worked the undercard of WWF in the 80s as a singles star. He worked up to the main event in the early 90s. He was pushed back into tag team wrestling. He was also pushed back into undercard wrestling in WWF. Then came back up to main event wrestling. He worked everybody. He worked every style. He adapted and worked on the fly. He worked under plans. He worked his style. He worked other peoples styles. He had mastered his game before he even went to WCW.
Then along comes Goldberg, who doesn't know anything. Doesn't want to listen to road agents. Doesn't want to learn. Because his ego and card placement told him that he was a big deal in wrestling, and he wasn't wrong. That doesn't make him a master. WCW management I feel is more to blame behind what happened to Bret than Goldberg, simply because you don't put a giant meathead with zero experience in with a guy who could (and should have upon arrival) been one of the faces of your company. Hogan, Sting, Flair, Hart. That SHOULD have been the mount rushmore of WCW. Instead, despite his talent, WCW had no idea what to do with Bret. They had no idea period about anybody.
So now you got Bret hurt, and he has a right to be angry. He had his career ended in an instant. The problem I have with Bret is that he just won't shut up about the same things over and over and over, that happened 25ish years ago.
Yes, you were screwed out of the belt in Montreal. Yes you had creative control in your contract. Yes you went to WCW who didn't use your potential at all. Yes Goldberg kicked you and ended your career. You're not wrong about any of the things you say........you've just said them so often and for so long that nobody even cares anymore. Shut the fuck up Bret. Talk about literally anything else! Because with you talking so much about these things, you start to not only lose any sympathy for these things happening, but also start to aggravate people with your incessant whining.
Steve Austin got dropped on his neck by Owen. It happened. It hurt Steve and probably shorted his career by 15 years. It forced him to change his style to become more basic in the ring, and become more character driven. You don't see him talk about it, unless the subject is brought up by somebody else, or it comes up naturally.
Ric Flair survived a plane crash that caused him also completely change his wrestling style. His injuries from falling from the literal sky in an airplane staight into a crash left him thinking he was going to die as a result. He survived, and you don't hear him talking about it constantly.
Darren Drozdoff was paralyzed in the ring by D-Lo Brown. He'll never walk again. First thing he did was to assure D-Lo that he forgave him and didn't blame him for the accident.
All these people had stuff go wrong, and they got past it. Bret can't get past it.

Honestly, Goldberg represents everything that is wrong with professional wrestling. All these years, and somehow he's still less talented in the ring than a 16 year-old backyard wrestler. How has he not learned anything except one move, the spear. And part of the time he can't even pull that off right. How many times has he concussed himself over the years?
Yeah, he's got the looks, the physique, he can cut a great promo. Tons of monstrous charm. What he doesn't have is actual wrestling ability. He needs more experienced wrestlers to guide him during his squash matches. Make sure they don't last too long. Otherwise the audience will realize what a clown he is in the ring. Heck William Regal proved that during their match in the WCW. And based on his attitude in this interview, I can see why Hart never forgave him and his lame, insincere apologies.

He hugged me and told me how sorry he was about my concussion. I had no doubt about that-Bill was a good man. Unfortunately, he’d been pushed too fast and didn’t understand his brute strength."
That's verbatim from Bret's own 2003 book. Its a shame 20 years later Bret now acts like bill is a terrible person because he is older and bitter.

I don't remember anyone saying Goldberg intentionally hurt Bret. Just that Goldberg was undertrained.
I do believe Goldberg. It was an accident. Caused by being under trained and rushed.
The point to training is too reduce accidents and help avoid career ending injuries. For both. The one 'receiving' the move, and the one performing the move.
I can't even blame Goldberg for not taking additional training. WCW offered to give him a push and money, anyone would have taken it.
I do blame the WCW, for not heeding the coaches, not giving Goldberg additional training.
And then the bosses didn't give Goldberg long enough matches, to flush out and correct, Goldberg flaws.(He didnt/couldn't learn on the fly. As it were.)

I’m a HUGE Hitman fan, but Bret is wrong on this one. I’m no Goldberg fanboy, but I’d imagine it’s difficult for him to have been trying to carry the load he was asked to and not make a mistake or two along the way. Hogan did far more damage by abusing his powers than an athlete like Goldberg being rushed through their development. Bret should be angry with WCW management and their insistence to put him in the focal point position of a company like that at the time. It wasn’t malicious and at some point Bret needs to understand things happen, but that doesn’t always mean intentional. Problem with Bret though it is also hard to expect someone to consider the other person’s position in an instance like that when you feel victimized so many times prior like in the Screwjob, Owen, and few other known grievances.

I don’t think it’s just Goldberg. WCW blew that whole deal with Bret. If they had canned Nash and Hogan and then actually pushed Bret at that time, history would be very different. Then they could have pushed the actual stars like Jericho., man, it would have lasted a lot longer.
