As a kid I hated Regal but as I got older I noticed his talent around the ring.

A little decorum for Stevie Ray. But yet Stevie Ray chewing gum on the interview podcast. Come on Stevie Ray practice what you preach.. No chewing gum!
True Story. I met Booker at a book signing. He had just become GM of Smackdown. I wanted to ask him when he was gonna get Stevie Ray on Commentary. I asked him "Suckas Gots To Know" and he lost it. Started Laughing, asking his people "did you hear what he said?' No one got it. Stevie Ray was great on Commentary. Glad he's doing this show.
I saw Booker T and Sharmell in the gym on the Jericho cruise. Fans were generally respectful of the wrestlers, and we wouldn’t interrupt them during their workouts. A boy with Down Syndrome was in the gym, and asked me “Is that Booker T?” I smiled and said, “I think it is Booker T, young man.” Booker then stopped his workout, and talked to the kid for a couple minutes. Booker and Sharmell are intense in the gym, and still look like they’re in amazing shape.
Regal has forgotten more than Goldberg knows! Regal has been wrestling since he was around 13 years old and started at the bottom and worked his way to the top paying his dues along the way. He is most definitely due a place in the HOF in the near future. His podcast with Austin is a joy to listen to and I highly recommend it.

Loved that game, but once i figured out you can flick the joystick to get out of a pin or submission, it kinda ruined it so from there on i had to just turn it on knockout only
William Regal exposed ALL OF GOLDBERG'S weaknesses, he was one of WCW's biggest success stories, and the streak is legendary, even though Goldberg was green at the time William Regal wasn't going to job out like that.

Regal was an overweight drug addict at the time, that is why he was fired. He embarrassed himself as much as Goldberg with that slop match.

Our morning DJ has had issues with new co-hosts, chewing gum and drinking on set. Even coughing into the microphone or smacking their lips. After years of hearing him get on the case of co-hosts there was once like 10 seconds of dead air followed by 1 commercial. When they came back there was apology from the co-host saying she will never chew gum on set ever again. The host explained she started choking on her gum.
When they went off about Apple Juice, I forgot what the whole video was about.

Well, to keep it factual,
Regal was mistaken when he
said that Quiet Riot's only two
hits were Slade songs.
They did have two hits,
but their second biggest hit,
"Bang Your Head
(Metal Health)", a top-40 hit
that barely missed the top-30
when it reached #31, was an original song by the band.
I'm sure Regal is talking about
Quiet Riot's 2nd Slade cover,
"Mama Weer All Crazee Now".
But that was not much of a hit,
as it only reached #50.
@@Randall-dg6wn true, Bang Your Head was not a Slade song.
His point was still a good one, Slade made Quiet Riot a lot more money than Quiet Riot made Slade
Regal is a real man he's not going to backdown and lay down for anybody
What's all this "he was a real man's man and he's not gonna lay down for anybody"... are we forgetting that this is the freaking entertainment industry??? Why are people saying that like it's a good thing..that he refused to do his job which was what he was hired for? Look at the other people that Goldberg was PUT IN THE SCRIPT to beat, and they did what they were told-barbarian and Meng come to mind immediately. Do you think any one of those two guys were any more of a man's man or legit tough guys than Regal? Regal was being unprofessional.End of story.
FWIW, I suspect this (refusing to do jobs) is the big reason sports entertainment is the way its today. Everyone is kept a mid-carder (no one gets over) to prevent these kinds of disagreements that cost the company money.
I would love to see a show where Stevie Ray just goes about his day, cutting promos on everyone. His family, the mailman, meter maids, dog walkers, everyone!
WCW had so many good characters and wrestlers. Stevie and Booker were an underrated duo
The og Harlem heat was always one of my fav duos. There entrance music and moves were super cool, loved the side kick/scissor kick.
Good job for stevie ray sticking up for regal
Regal said goldberg froze up in their match so he tried to work around him and salvage the match. Goldberg was lucky he wasn't in there with someone like ken shamrock, bradshaw or vader who would have just beat him down in the middle of the ring!
Your talking like the whole thing isn’t fucking scripted like a real fight would happen get back to reality
@@josephbuccoleri3814 listen shut the fuck up. He's right and you've missed the point.
Definitely lucky he took care of people. I think Bill was annoyed after cause he was inexperienced and didn't know Regal was just trying to go home believebly. It's like he told the booker. "I can't beat up myself" and up until then that was the longest he had ever gone in a match.
So much of this is lost sight of. Regal is a fucking legend of a person and it's shit that idiots on here have no clue. Like the fake dipshits on your comment. He probably thinks a shoot match is wrestling and laser tag.
I remember being a kid watching that match and I thought it made wrestling look a little bit more real I thought to myself you see how good of a wrestler he is no one has taken Goldberg this long
Yep. Goldberg was just not a technical wrestler. Isolated power moves in a quick squash match - not a problem unless you can be safe and effective while selling moves - which he didn’t do at all. He literally ended Bretts career with a hard kick to the face. BUT of all the wrestlers who faced him Regal at least got an OK match out of Goldberg.
Apparently backstage wanted Regal to give Goldberg his first "legitimate" test in the ring and both men were on board. Then right before the match began, unbeknownst to Regal, some higher-up told Goldberg "you better squash this guy or you'll lose your credibility". Classic WCW miscommunication led to an awkward match that ultimately did expose Goldberg and whether or not Regal was fired for that or for his drug issues is up for debate.
He was fired for embarrassing Goldberg on TV him being on drugs was the excuse they used to justify it. Regal admitted that in a shoot interview that and the fact that hours before the match happened they did a run thru of what was going to happen and when it came time to do it Goldberg went completely off script no selling his moves so Regal said to hell with it and embarrassed him in the ring. To answer who told Goldberg to squash him it was either the head booker (can't remember who was the booker at the time) or Bischoff my guess Bischoff since he was high on Goldberg squashing everybody during that point of his streak.
I watched that match when it happened on TV and I watched over and over again on TH-cam. What I saw was Regal teaching a young buck the facts of the business. He in no way "exposed" Goldberg. He eventually put Goldberg over in that match. If anything William Regal taught Goldberg how to wrestle a little bit better. I watched a podcast with Goldberg as he thanked William Regal for the lesson. In my opinion it made Goldberg's win even more legit.
Regal was the most genuinely skilled wrestler of his era.
He would have been up there with Flair had he been featured in the previous generation. He had it all for a classic heel: a punchable face, a dick attitude, real brawling skills, could work the coward angle, was great as a heel on the mic and was a technical wizard which could help him keep up with lenghthy matches against top babyfaces ala Flair.
Too bad he was featured in an era where you have to look like Goldberg or talk like The Rock to be top game
I love these interviews with Stevie Ray. It's obvious that he's very passionate about the business
I heard Regal, Haku, and Rick Rude where all tough S.O.B.S
on the wiki, during the collosal connection when Andre and Haku/meng were a tag team. Andre the giant said there were only two men he physically feared, wrestling coach named Harley, and Haku. Harley, I don't know why. But all you have to do is hear one wrestler talk about Haku and that's all you'll need to hear.

I like the match. The 'Kicking everybody's ass' thing shouldn't be so black and white in wrestling. A guy who's a monster getting in there with a supreme technician should look like the Regal/Goldberg match. The commentators should be told to non-stop highlight the fact that grapplers can HALT a monster by taking away so much of their offence through techniques. The monster winning at the end should be sold as a huge deal because not even great technique could hold their power for long.

I never felt lume it was a bad showing for Goldberg it was just a good showing for Regal.
Nonsense. Goldberg was becoming the typical squash-monster. I get that monsters generate hype, but there's only so much of "Big monster smashes puny mortal" before it gets stale, then when matches like Berg v Brock came along, it was an utter disaster. The Regal/Berg match in question may have played up on Bergs weaknesses, but it still made him look good. He actually squashed someone who put up a fight for a change, and Regal got to maintain a little dignity despite knowing it was typical 'jobbing'. From Regal's PoV, he was TOLD to 'wrestle' him - and then told off by the exact same people afterwards.
Except he didn't really demonstrate any great skill or anything. He just ran from him the entire time. It was boring as fuck.
After watching shoot interviews of Stevie Ray he seems like a no nonsense , down to earth kind of person. My late father loved wrestling and Harlem Heat was his all time favorite tag team. His favorite wrestling story to tell people how he got to meet Harlem Heat as a kid at a WCW show in the early 90's. He said Booker T and Stevie Ray were amazingly nice to him. Took the time to talk to him and took a picture with him. My mom still has that picture in a frame in her office.

Regal says he was told by someone in WCW management to do it; though he won't say who that person is.
Regal was one of the best GM's in WWE history. He booked some outstanding matches when the WWE/WCW merged
Everytime I hear this story it's so exaggerated. Goldberg saw what Regal was on & Goldberg actually pulled off some very impressive reversals & a roll up leglock. 2 me it made Goldberg look gr8. BTW, the match didn't even last 10mins. The commentary was superb.
Regal comes from a serious wrestling background, far tougher than Americans are used to. He was trained by people with more moves than are typical in US wrestling. That was British wrestling in the 70s and 80s; genuinely technical. Think Dynamite Kid and Rollerball Mark Rocco. Plus Regal is tough anyway....
Harlem Heat in my opinion is the greatest tag team of all time. They were Big, Scary, awesome entrance music, full of passion and excitement, and most of all; they had the skills to pay the bills and knew how to tear the house down. The total package!
Ryan Alves Harlem Heat were definitely in my top 3 best tag teams ever(1.Road Warriors 2. Steiner Brothers 3. Harlem Heat)..

Love how Stevie Ray is grilling the dude for being unprofessional, classy
Regal says himself that he didn’t get fired for months. He said he was a mess and on drugs and although the Goldberg thing was probably a part of it but not the sole reason.
Regal had his "issues"- so I can see him being on his last strike with WCW. But he's a legit badass- and certainly could make someone look like a fool in the ring if he wanted to.
I like how dude started off trying trying to be an ass with the "marks" comment, and looked like a fool when s Stevie Ray confirmed it.
Big ups to Stevie Ray. He always keep it real. Much love to homie.
Regal said on the night “I can’t wrestle myself” basically mocking Goldberg for being A. Shit and B. Limited on what he can do.
What happened ?. He just beat Goldberg badly ? Why didn’t Goldberg fight back

You are correct. They actually had a decent match, and Goldberg did some real wrestling moves. The thing that made it different was it was the first match that Goldberg didn't just squash his opponent in seconds.

because his roots belongs to that

I love these Stevie Ray interviews.
It was not William Regal's idea to go 6 minutes with Bill Goldberg who only knew enough moves to carry about a 90 second match.
I came across these videos late but these two chemistry is amazing. Stevie Ray is hilarious btw lol
Regal is a legit legend. If he’s not in the WWE Hall Of Fame he damn well should be. But he also broke the golden rule. He broke kayfab. He was the veteran in that ring. He damn well knew better. His pride got in the way of his commitment to putting on a good show. He was tasked with putting over Goldberg. It wasn't his place to decide to embarrass the golden boy just because he got pissy about it. I would have fired him too. As I said, the man is a legend but he fucked up bad. He deservd to be fired.
Stevie Ray reminds me that big bully guy from the movie “House Party” with Kid and Play.
Regal exposed a lot of wrestlers. He had great skill compared to others. The others were just for their physique and the odd occasion whereby they'd exhibit great strength. Promoters wanted action men, not a brit who could dance around the rest of them.
I watched that match many times and saw a competitive match. I didn't see Regal embarrass Goldberg. I saw a good match between a awesome legend in William Regal and a awesome newcomer Bill Goldberg. I thought it was a great match. No Goldberg didn't come out and destroy Regal in 30 seconds and I didn't expect that to happen. I thoroughly enjoyed the match. It taught Goldberg a lot in the wrestling ring and I loved it.
Also tell them this every time regal threw punches at goldberg, goldberg shok it off.... every time regal had him in a tangle hold goldberg had a counter...REGAL PLAN WAS TO TANGLE UP GOLDBERG AND HAVE HIM OFF RHYTHM he's use to win when he squash a opponent ... question did you see regal pick up goldberg and throw him around ? NO did you see goldberg throw him around before he hit him with a spear ? YES. .... u see regal surprised goldberg by hitting him but not damaging him cause goldberg shook it off and he tangled his arms..... but goldberg said ok this is different... imma flow along with it ,EVERY MOVE REGAL DID GOLDBERG COUNTERED... THEN HIT EM WITH THE SPEAR...THE END 😂😂😂❤
Stevie takes no crap. Love him! 💪💪🤛
Coincidentally, Goldberg's face on the thumbnail is the same face he makes after eating two pounds of pastrami and visiting the bathroom.
