This was fun. Other issuers are beginning to emulate Amex on the credit side (see Chase with Door Dash). It is exhausting, but perception of value for most people will exceed actual value (unless you keep a spreadsheet, you see the credits you get, but not all the breakage in credits you miss). It is probably the only way to keep driving up multipliers and SUBs while maintaining margins. And it is clear brands have interest in subsidizing some of the cost to drive spend toward their products.
Good interview and great points Jon, but RJ from me working in retail a lot of young ppl only have Platinum/ Gold CC because they are AU on their parents cards especially college students
Great discussion! I agree that AMEX is slowly tightening up approvals and SUBs. Honestly, the BCE and BCP are two very solid cashback cards. I think they will be coming out with a flat 2% card to replace the Cash Magnet, and a flat 1.5X card to replace the ED/EDP. I definitely think we are going to see the end of 19 years olds with Platinum cards to flex on their friends. They could still get the the no annual fee road trip duo though, BCE and HH.
Thank you! They could bypass the whole 2% Cash magnet/1.5x Every day if they could just left folks convert membership reward dollars to membership rewards points. Way better than Statement credit.
Great update and discussion! FYI, I have the Savor One and just received an email from C1 that my card will changing to a Savor card. But the earnings will stay the same. Makes me wonder if they have plans for a new Savor X or solidifies that C1 is not doing any special after closing apps to the Savor a few months ago
Thank you! Yeah, I got that email yesterday. I honestly don't know what Capital One is doing, you'd think some sort of SavorX could be on the way, but odd to just leave it hanging...
@SledgeIncTeam Plat is mine also i took your advice last week I used FHR at Oceans Edge key west resort and email said no upgrade available after we got there i asked in person and she said it was one available because of a cancelation so fhr has its advantages
I think the worst Amex refresh was the Delta Platinum. $10 monthly for Resy and rideshare are useless for me, as opposed to the Gold card credits, which are fine. I’m keeping my Gold and downgrading to Delta Gold.
@@MattClausen I live in a small town, so it’s easy to use Resy twice a year, but not monthly. And I Uber or Lyft maybe twice a year although it’s easy to use Uber Eats pickup.
@@SledgeIncTeam I agree it’s good if you can make good use of the companion certificate. I’m just ending the first year of the cats, which is hard to justify without it.
The green card is desperate for a refresh. If they make it compelling enough, many people who don't need a platinum could downgrade by choice, freeing up centurion lounge access. Axe the unnecessary credits, add priority pass. It would take pressure off the Platinum as their only lounge card.

Great job on TH-cam ♥️
Thank you Vicki!
Good round table discussion and perspective on Amex.
Thank you Juan! Yeah I wanted much different voices than mine for AmEx
Thanks for the info + video!
Thank you as Always Jimmy!
Love these series. I have 2 AMEX cards however I am not a big fan of how they operate as well.
Thank you! I have Citi and Capital one coming next.
Meh. Operations/policy wise Amex is better than Chase and the rest. U may not like their cards, but they’re not difficult to do biz with.
@@newagain9964 Valid, however family language & lifetime rule limits opportunities & no thanks to all of the coupons. I like to game, not to be gamed.

Yeah. There definitely is room for breakage. I guess it comes down to how much breakage you’re willing to deal with.
Great stuff! 👍🏼
Thank you Xavier!

I can see both sides to this, though hopefully they added them as AUs on more Utilization reporting cards...

@@MattClausen seriously. I guess we can only wait and see
They brought my boy Jon to the Panel.
The Platinum doesnt make sense for a lot of the People on TH-cam, even a lot of the creators.
I know it’s not for me….
Thanks Sledge!
Ouch Sledge, because your co host JP might get on me and your brother Joe B for having the Platinum Card still
@bt3299 hahaha. The Platinum is still my Favorite card 😃

The Resy credit on the Delta Platinum is a little weak to me. But the rest of the card wasn’t bad.

For me, the Delta Platinum is the best Delta card. The Companion Certificate and the Delta Stays credit are solid.

I think Delta Platinum and Green could have at least have some lounge access like PP

Can’t say I disagree. I could see something like 2 Centurion Passes and Priority Pass in general.
FTA!
Thank you!
