Great discussion, kinda surprised I sat thru the whole convo. I agreed with all points pretty much, and the note about Amex being complacent is spot on. They’re not going to be ahead in Centurion Lounges forever, and it’s frustrating that there aren’t more concerted efforts from them to build out their lineup like 2x category on any of the personal MR cards, cards like the business green just being dead, and a $0 entry level card. (I live in NYC so a gas/EV multiplier doesn’t matter for me, but probably does for most people, and a card between plat and black would be nice).
Thanks for watching everything! Yeah, it has started feeling a little "wheel spinny" with AmEx as they're choosing odd places to leave the market (low and no annual fee) and letting cards languish and adding "eh" at best credits (in my opinion, besides the Dunkin Credit, it's super easy) on cards and moving on.
Amex frustrations - acceptance rate still low with no improvement on the horizon, overseas transaction fees, the coupon books to justify their crazy fees, and the ultimate one - the financial review horror stories while people are mid trip
@ not personal myself, but it’s happened to people I know and I’ve heard stories. They were trapped in Europe after Amex f’ed them. Customer service wouldn’t do anything. I’m that alone is why I’ll never give Amex business
Last year I had 8 actively used cards, next year I'll be down to 4. My enthusiasm is down to the Hilton Aspire and Surpass. Maybe if I had gone into expert mode, but I'd rather go the easy route with AS/AA.
Did 100k spend with Amex this year. Came out with about 600k points. Would do anything except not get a bonus to get the Amex personal gold. Did more spend with chase but still unsure who I like more.
Good guest. Amex will release a MR consumer credit card. Maybe 2x everything $100 af. But asking waaaay to much for $0 af 4x to 6x card (the convert blue cards to MR earning idea). And lots of ppl like Amex cb cards. Esp small biz owners.
I would assume something like 5 MRD cents becomes 2-4 MR points so the math maths a little better. There's gotta be a way, but, certainly makes sense to question the math some. But something needs to replace the Everyday Preferred.
I’m so sick of Amex. I still have to grab the Plat sub and probably end up downgrading to the Gold for one year as I wouldn’t be able to get the points out that fast. But believe me, I wont be a long term customer and I can’t wait to be officially done with them.
@@MattClausenI know exactly their target audience. Boomers who use the Plat for everything or the Gold for everything. And of course they don’t care about the credits at all!
Great video guys and thank you, but the Gold card and Blue Business card has my MR points balance shooting up faster than the national debt. I'm a happy customer.
Geography is an incredibly important factor here. Living in Manhattan without a car, gas/ev would be a useless category on any of AMEX cards. Uber is a part of life, and almost all restaurants in the city are on Resy, and you cannot avoid Dunkin. Dont eat or drink. DD, but use the credit to buy donuts for the office
it’s not that serious. Ppl just want to be upset about everything. Gold card and MANY MANY other issuers’ cards aren’t for everyone. The CSR is one or the worst cards with an annual fee. I don’t see 10% of the ire as gold get.

Merry Christmas!
Good conversation from your guest.
Thanks! Yeah @doyoutakecards is awesome. I like to just present the question and wait it out.

The last one sounds personal…

Makes sense. There's other plays I'm making, but I can see that.

Not shabby at all. I guess it depends on partners.
Green card with 4X gas/EV charging Would be a game changer for Amex
Even 3x Gas/EV would be amazing. But yeah 4x uncapped would be great

I’m frustrated with their co branded cards too.. Hilton just announced they are devaluing their points structure again.
The deval isn't great...but devals happen all the time.
Sometimes makes we wanna switch over to team Cash back
Ha I’ve always said Amex is the Apple of the cc world
It does make a lot of sense.
verifying income is mine due to IRS not having staff
That’s only going to get worse!

Yeah, that makes sense. They can do what they want. It’ll be on customers to respond. So far it’s working for them.

Then u even bothering with Amex? Why not collect WF or Citi subs?? Even Chase? U look like a 🤡 with ur rage posts. 😂
Great video guys and thank you, but the Gold card and Blue Business card has my MR points balance shooting up faster than the national debt. I'm a happy customer.
Oh, the premium cards do some work, don't get me wrong. But it would help to have downgrade paths for less than a minimum of $150

Geography is going to dictate a lot of habits and Travel partners. so that definitely makes sense.
yeah idk change the shirt
doesnt look good
Oilers?
I got approved for the Amex platinum yesterday but without the bonus due to pop up jail. Still except the card with out the bonus offer.
No sub? When was last time u had the card?
This can happen, but you can drive a ton of value, and play the upgrade/downgrade game to trigger upgrde offers.
