      Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena: My 16yr old Daughter and l have waited all week for this next series from Vietnam!! (Binge watching your Malaysian playlist filled the void😆).
      What an exciting, drooling start! Come on guys tone down the deliciousness for us "playing along at home"!! The Pho, the grilled pork salad, the creme caramel..... the coffee!! Cannot wait for more. BTW we worked out we have 6 Vietnamese restaurants within a 600 meters radius from our home!!! No searching for obscure ingredients for attempts at some of the Mexico series. This ones literally on our doorstep. Thank you!

      Awesome Brilliant But Blue! Bet they’d all serve most of what we’ll share during the series too 😍 hope you both enjoyed the start to this series- we are seriously having such a blast. On our last trip to Vietnam we had a couple of crappy experiences that sort of put us off returning but we are so happy we decided to give it another go so to speak! The food, the people and the energy here is addictive. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great weekend you guys! Cheers, Sheena 💕

    Wow! Wow! Wow!
    Just the effort that it takes to get to know a few phrases and words of each place you visit is crazy
    This is how much you really are invested in experiencing the local life as much as possible.
    Really kudos to you

      Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena yea, some of the best food in the world is literally on the streets. I miss the makeshift stalls of Malay rice and curry right on the streets of Malaysia. Most people think such food might be inferior to that of an establishment but until they try it they are so wrong

    Pho Bo Vien was my go to place for Pho bo when I was staying in that part of town. The meat is sooo tender. I've been meaning to return there. I've discovered another brilliant pho restaurant near Bui Vien backpacker area, Thai Son, 178 Lê Lai What I love about this place is the huge pile of greens they supply with the soup. Super healthy. 60K

    "Local food experts"
    I usually go chronological but have to jump to that *_noodle salad._* Wow! You know how sometimes the first bite misses an ingredient or two? Not here. That was absolutely perfect by Thomas. Yup.
    *_pho_* - Do you recall if you tried the breadsticks with it? I've never done that. Pho has been super trendy in the U.S. forever and people love to tell you how much they love pho. 😂 Seriously. Mention pho in a group and it's kind of unanimous. Ha. But absolutely delicious indeed and rivals ramen as my top noodle soup. Well, OK, not really. ;) You understand.
    *_Fantastic start to Vietnam, guys!_* All the street and lane shots excite me. Well done.

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tosh! That noodle salad is the best street food we’ve had this year- everything about it from the food to the atmosphere to the vendor was perfect. Couldn’t have asked for better 🤤 Hahaha I know exactly what you mean about people telling you how much they love pho 🤣 I’ve never had pho with the breadsticks. It just doesn’t appeal to either of us- we prefer to keep it as pure and clean a bowl as possible if that makes sense? Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate, so happy you enjoyed it. Cheers, Sheena P.S “local food experts” 😶 trying to differentiate ourselves in a snappy way from all the other food videos out there 😆

    • @tosht2515
      @tosht2515 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      😳 Best street food of the year is high praise indeed considering all the amazing places you two visited in 2019!!
      *_pho breadsticks_* - I'm the same about the bread but since there was so much of it on display, I thought perhaps that was the traditional thing to do. Was hoping you'd give it a go.
      *_local food experts_* - I pointed it out to let you see I noticed. You know I actually pay attention 😀 but I definitely understand needing to differentiate. There's so much out there. I prefer "enthusiast." Unlike "foodie" (which makes me cringe), the term enthusiast is perfect. Car enthusiasts, outdoor enthusiasts, wine enthusiasts, etc. have been used for decades and covers it all I feel. My friends say I'm a food enthusiast because I enjoy research; respect tradition; appreciate haute and budget equally and will happily try anything. Yup. To me, *_food enthusiasts_* describe you guys to a tee!

    Both of you do a great deal of research before selecting a food and then show casing that food with tasting and commentary, it is obvious that there is a great deal of hard work is involved. Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena Lol! Honestly Vietnamese people are small in build compared to other Asians so the stool thing isn't too hard to understand but also Asians tend to do deep squats so they must have pretty good calf muscles :) squatting with your two feet flat on the ground is a great position as you relieve pressure on your backbone (as compared to when sitting and even standing) and it is the best position to poop. To that note I must say I miss my squat toilets in Asia 😄

    Thanks for the video. Vietnamese food in Vietnam never disappoints. I have read in comments before though that people do not normally say 'xin chao' or 'tam biet' in Vietnam. It's like saying 'selamat tinggal' (meaning a complete or formal goodbye) instead of 'jumpa lagi' in Malay. I guess it's the same thing in chinese culture where it's strange to say ni hao - although it might be the correct word for hello it isn't usually said. I guess it is a nuance thing where one word can't be translated into another language without considering the context. In most Asian cultures (I'm sure you can relate) we usually don't say hello and just go straight into calling 'Aunty' or 'Uncle' as a sign of respect plus greeting followed by saying what you want to say. 😊 That said you can say what you want as a tourist and I'm pretty sure Vietnamese people will still be very welcoming 😊

      Hi A O, thanks for watching and commenting mate. I completely agree and understand what you’re saying. • @AO-iv6yr
      @AO-iv6yr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena yea perhaps it depends on the situation when using those greetings. I guess in chinese culture it might be ok to use ni hao when meeting someone for the first time but more often Chinese people will just greet the other party by name or title (and shake a hand if you want) and nod the head slightly (bowing if Korean or Japanese) and I think this is the thing in most asian cultures. Can't wait for more delicious Vietnamese food. The pork noodle salad made me hungry for it :)

    I'm going there soon. The street food definitely looks amazing but I'm a lil apprehensive about the hygiene since I see how they handle food with their bare hands...

      Fantastic Hem Joo Yeo! We didn’t have any issues with hygiene in the places we filmed at - we put the addresses in our descriptions if you want to visit them yourself. To be honest, gloves are pretty rare no matter where we are travelling in the world- just follow the usual street food rules (follow the crowds) and you should be okay! Thanks for watching and commenting and have a great trip! Cheers, Sheena

      We sure didn’t. The pork noodles rocked my boat so much though. Absolute outstanding meal. Loved everything about it. The food, the lady and the environment. Thanks for checking this one out! Cheers, Thomas 😀

    My favorite pho is pho 32 at Le Thi Rieng near Pham ngu lao. Not particularly like Vietnam grilled pork and chicken. Too hard to bite.

    I’m surprise you don’t get food poisoning from the street food

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We very rarely get ill eating street food- always aim for the popular local spots that are churning out the dishes 😄 Thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
