Great work on the rebuild, another point of failure for these engines is the coolant bypass pipe part number SH20-15-290A. Needs to be replaced with the upgraded steel one as the plastic one tends to burst on high temperatures.
I can't turn a screwdriver, but, looked like you did more than the head gasket. I suspect mine blew, coolant in water for sure. I am trying to decide whether to junk my 2012 mazda6s with 80k miles, or roll the dice on having a mechanic fix it. Does the engine have to come out for head gasket replacement? How about the water pump? I hear those fail often on this car and could of been the cause in my limited 2 days of googling. I have no job currently, so I hate to throw money after bad.
We drop the engine for a head gasket clean the intake and change the exhaust cam shaft if it is worn new timing chain and water pump if needed it is a big job but any ones we have done have been running perfect ever since good car when they are running right
My Mazda6 2.2 has got a head gasket failure (verified exhaust gas in coolant); it's going in for further investigation to confirm it's not the EGR cooler that might be leaking instead. How much did this repair cost, with all the sundry items you did at the same time while the engine was out?
Thank you Sam 3 days in it easy maybe more with test driving and checks afterwards glad to be out of it now but I’m stuck in another one now at the moment 🥵

Cool I didn’t know that have not seen one burst yet thanks dude 👍
I got mine changed preventenly this week for a metal one. Did you have to compensate the skimmed on the head?, thanks and great job!
Skimmed head new gasket no compensation all good 👍 thanks for watching
Is ot obvious when it goes bad ? I.e. leaks evident. ?

What caused the head gasket to blow in the first place? Or do these engines tend to blow gaskets at a certain age/mileage? Thanks in advance
Yes a common fault with these Mazda’s 2.2 skyactive engines is head gasket failure and they also crack cylinder heads
