My first garden injury

  • I got injured in the garden. While digging the final potato beds and pumping water around the plot, I take a careless step and fall into a rain barrel. Don't worry, there is no accident footage. I only share the time leading up to the accident and tell you how I got injured.

    Your potato beds are wonderful.

You’ve done great on the potato beds and clearing out all that trash. It’s looking so good.
Your plant starts are looking good, you’re going to be so excited when you get them into the ground.
I hope you’re removed by now and have no more issues from the injury.
Loved the drone footage and Pepper sneaking into the compost.

Thank you! I am on the mend with only some tape left to protect the knuckle joint. I will pass on the drone compliments to my husband 🙂

Your gardens and well everything is looking amazing! How satisfying that must feel to see the garbage pile gone. You've accomplished so much. I love the drone footage because it helps us understand the layout of the land so much easier, not to mention its such a beautiful view point too. Keep on healing and take good care of yourself. 😊

A "lack" of weight and/or strength causes things to take longer but doesn't make them impossible.

Reading the title had me guessing. Hands or feet or something else.? Yes it is ironic that your sandals possibly contributed to your fall. I saw the sandals at the end and thought maybe you had bruised your foot using the shovel barefoot. Tough feet !

Using the shovel was no problem at all. I was surprised by it because even I thought I needed shoes for that. But the shovel has a wide top and I can comfortably use it.

I’m so sorry you were injured, hope you heal quickly. When you love your garden it’s depressing to be laid up, we worry about our seedlings and plants, wanting to be out there so bad. ❤

Thank you! I am pretty sure I will be able to use both hands again when I get back home. Some tape for a few more weeks but it should all be fine 🙂

Sorry for you injury. Thankfully it wasn't worse. I could never walk around in my bare feet as my feet are too tender. By the way My wife was born in Germany as her mother was German born and raised in Germany.

Ironically, I likely got injured because I was wearing sandals. I had dropped glass in the kitchen and had a tiny puncture on my foot, so I wore sandals to not get stuff into the wound. That meant I had less feeling and didn't notice it slip.

How did you actually fall? Did you fall into the barrel by overbalancing, or trip over it as you were walking past?

I was too lazy to bend down to close the lid properly and tried to use my (sandaled) foot... The lid slipped, and I fell in with one leg.
