    Thanks man :-) . Thanks to your tutorial I made today my first perennial plant component, with all the stuff around it. The only thing missing was how to align it with the axis so it doesn't pole dance. But I figured it on my own. Good job. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this!!
    I just made several plants this way - except I just drew them and filled the spaces with colors that look like leaves.
    I would def *change the axis* to the bottom of the main trunk. I also made some hanging planters with the axis at the top-center where the hook would be. I make a white color that is completely transparent to fill in the cross hairs, and then totally remove faces where there would just be air.
    I would also put some *cross hairs* at the base of a plant so the Move Tool has something to snap onto. If it bugs you that they show, just hide them. The Move Tool still knows they're there.
    Yay!

    Great job Justin! What about changing the axes of the component so it turns round the trunk instead of the left corner?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Willem! That's a good idea - It would make moving the component around a little easier, and I think (though I'm not 100% sure) that when you rotate your camera, a follow me component rotates around the component axis to face your camera, so you could get a bit of control over the way your object rotates as well. Either way, it's an interesting thought - thanks for watching!

    This is very helpful. I am having problems keeping the trace sketch 'on face' the shape I am tracing out is quite angular and most of the time my cursor snaps to a 'blue or red access' so I can never close my sketch. Is there a way to snap only to 'face'? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Justin,
    Great video, I came across it while searching to learn how to make components for trees from 2D images. Having found a suitable tree image, you then import it as image on a vertical rectangle of approx size you want the tree, ensuring the SU rectangle is transparent. All the rest is per your video, however, the 'SU-face-me' in the component settings needs to change for the AXES to be central on the trunk to ensure the tree remains in the place while veiwing your model in various locations.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean that if the model is away from the component axes, it moves around kind of funky when you rotate? This would be correct - the model axis is the center of the rotation - as a general rule, the component axis shouldn't be off in space away from your model anyway

    • @MrCADCHANNEL
      @MrCADCHANNEL 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi justin,
      Thats correct, the component AXES for trees generally needs to be central about the tree trunk at the base to remain in a fixed position when viewing your model in different scenes. The 'CHANGE-AXES' typically needs to be undertaken when making a component.

    Hi Justin, How can I change the axis point that the tree rotates on so that it doesn't rotate at the corner as it does in the example? I want the tree to always stay where I "plant" it and simply rotate at the trunk.. Is that possible?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you'd just reset the object axis with the axis tool? This video may help - th-cam.com/video/x3sZc8qsenU/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, Just super as usual !
    Can you please tell me what you do so that the tree is standing ? When I import my models they are flat on the ground (I hope that you can understand what I mean ;-) )
    In any case thanks for your tutorials

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Patricia! Probably what's happening is the axes in your models don't match up with the axes in your model. Double click inside your model, then use "Tools, Axes" to draw axes that line up with your model axes (blue being up and down, etc). You may have to re-import your item using the components section in your tray. Does that make sense? Thanks!

    Where do you get your images from to import into the model? I am looking to place a Ligustrum tree in a model. There is nothing resembling one in 3D warehouse and images from a google search always have to have a background cut out.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a special place - often I just cut the background out myself with Photoshop - there may be somewhere online with a better solution, but I'm not sure exactly what it is...

    Hello!
    I have a problem creating a face me component. Everytime i want to do that, the certain component changes the axes to other direction and it will not face towards camera. I tried to rechange the axes but still no results. What should I do?
    What I want to make is a corona around a 3D sphere (a planet, to Be precise).
    Thank You!

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you changed the axes, did you turn off the face me function in your component first?

    • @_Leo_-
      @_Leo_- 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thesketchupessentials Uhm... no. The problem is that the component's face me option is working but it's not facing the right angle. It's a bit tilted or faced towards right. Let me get home. I'll give it another try and I'll be back to you

      @@Thesketchupessentials I've been trying to do that and still the result is dissapointing. I have followed your steps and still nothing and I don't understand why. It's a bit frustrating... -_-
