  • Hey there, TH-cam fam! 👋 In today's video, I'm tackling another issue with our Land Rover Discovery 4 LR4: The automatic windshield wiper system isn't functioning! 😖
I dove straight into various forums to uncover potential causes. During my research, several possibilities emerged, like the gel pad becoming worn over time, windshield misfitting, or a faulty sensor.
Opting for the most cost-effective solution at €16, I ordered a new gel pad on eBay and swapped it out in this video. I'll walk you through dismantling the rearview mirror and rain sensor yourself, highlighting key points to keep in mind.
Join me in this video to see if the effort paid off and if we achieved the desired results.
Wishing you all an awesome Sunday,
    Peter

🚨🚨 VIDEO UPDATE: This week I installed a new used rain sensor including a previously used gel pad and lo and behold, the automatic windscreen wipers are now working perfectly again! Incidentally, the IID tool unfortunately didn't recognise the faulty sensor, hence the attempt with the gel pad! All the best, Peter

I love this content. I love having to see how the Disco 4 repairs are done hoping mine doesn’t breakdown.

    Hi Peter.
Check the lower wiring loom in the lower B post on the passenger side below the seat belt coil there is a cluster of earth wires which corrodes 👍

Hi, thanks for the hint! 👍 I'll take a closer look and work on corroded connections if necessary. Greetings, Peter

got my LR4 a few weeks back and today was just wondering where the rain sensor is! excellent video thank you! when / if mine fails i know what to try.
but for your issue, if you have a voltmeter, you can put the volt meter with some pins (not sure which ones) and measure if there is any fluctuations when you put some water on the windscreen. in theory if the sensor works, you should see spikes in the resistance readings.

Hi, of course I have and I'll try it straight away. Good idea, thanks! The part can be dismantled in just a few minutes 😉 Best, Peter

If you think about it, failure is just feedback; it’s simply showing you what’s not working so you can find out what will work. It’s necessary and can’t be avoided. Replacement module for the rain wiper sensor, Part #LR014238. Fits LR4 / Discovery 4 V8 5.0 Liter | 10 - 13. LR4 / Discovery 4 V6 3.0 Liter | 14 - 16. Might need reprogramming.

😄 👍 That's definitely true! And as an LR driver, you're used to it not always working straight away or only in the rarest of cases straight away. Thanks for the part number, will add it to the description. I already ordered a tested used one.

Hi Peter. I have the same problem as you had. Ordered a replacement sensor with pad from ebay and replaced it today. Still not working. Wipers just go in intervall on the AUTO setting. Any tips on troubleshooting further?

Hey, there are a few possibilities, including that there could be air between the windscreen and the gel pad. There must not be any air bubbles. (I put some silicone grease on the gel pad so that it fits 100%). I would also check all plugs, fuses etc. to rule this out. Greetings, Peter

Did this ever work, Peter? I have the same issue post aftermarket windshield. I swapped out a “tested” used one that seems only to work if I slightly apply pressure. Now that I think of it, the auto light sensor always functioned, so maybe the sensor just can’t read through the replacement windscreen. Super frustrating.

Hey, yes, I bought a new second-hand sensor for about 40 euros and it's been working really well ever since 👍. Best, Peter
