This is a good clip showing you how to NOT check the oil level correctly in a Discovery 4. According to the owner's manual for this car, the engine needs to have reached operating temperature, then be switched off and then wait ten minutes before checking the level. The car in this clip had a cold engine when the oil was checked, therefore the reading was inaccurate.

I understand that its a nightmare to remove the oil level sensor which was designed to be externally fitted to the sump but for song god unknown reason the boffins at landrover design engineering dept installed internally INSIDE the sump which led to all sorts of problems with the command loom and plugs and oil Leakes due to the capillary action on the oil migrating through the wire outside to the jackplug and onto to your nice clean tarmac
Even the people who make the sensor were amazed at landrovers stupidity 🙄

You think the oil level would be appreciably different hot or cold? Only if you had left out the drain plug. Good grief.

    • @michelbonnet3787

@@fredschwartz5172 It's not a question of temperature ! Just a quantity of oil stays in cylinder heads and needs time to go down in sump.

That is ridiculous. They purposely want you to rely on a sensor to check your oil lever. So if the sensor goes bad you are screwed and you destroy your engine.

sheba6779 MY2010-13 can only be reset by - dealer, iidtool, an obdII reader that is jaguar/LR compatible for clearing errors or doing a battery hard reset where you disconnect the battery and touch the positive and negative cables from the vehicle together for a minute which drains the system and resets those codes. Hard reset -Doesn't affect radio station or seat memory. MY2014-17 have a reset sequence like most other cars. Search online for that.

I wasn't talking about your car, but in general as so many have snapped crankshafts, must be down to people not bothering doing all this, I just bought a 2012 RRS with 74,000 and the crank had snapped , how do you explain that, it just don't happen with other cars, land rover should be held accountable ...

    • @L663
