  • How to catch Lobster by hand whilst freediving, some top tips on locating Lobsters and catching them. Filmed off the coast of North Wales (Anglesey) in winter/spring 2022.
British Lobsters are some of the tastiest in the world, far superior to the bland north American ones, catching them by hand is exciting, and a great way to gather food from the sea in the cold winter months when little else is around.

Any recommendations for spots to try near Pwllheli for lobsters?
How deep do you usually find them?

Lobsters are often really shallow, and can even be uncovered at low tide
You need to go a fair distance west of Pwllheli to start finding rocky ground that’ll hold them, but all along that coastline is good

Great video pal. I was told if a lobster nips you it could break the bones in your hand. So I've never even thought about just sticking my hand in a hole. Was I lied too? Is it just a case of if you get nipped it will just hurt and I wont loose a finger. Lol

I've been nipped by dozens of Lobsters and never had any injuries. Be very cautious about Brown Crabs though, they're insanely strong and can literally crush straight through a lobsters back, a Crab could easily break a finger!

Great spot for them. Love it there when the vis is good. Must say i tend to get them out with a hook rather than my hand. Fair play to you 😂

Do you find the hook works? Have been in a v thick wetsuit so really struggling with bouyancy in the shallows this winter, have had more success teasing the out with the spear when lying flat on the bottom

@@jackmetcalfe8542 had a lot of luck with the hook. Also with leavibg the spear out infront of the hole and they come out to investigate. New favourite way to catch is to use the hook to get them swimming and grab them while they swim.

Do you know any good spot for lobster in north wales

They’re literally everywhere. Look for areas of reef in 2-6 meters and you’ll find plenty of Lobsters in the holes

How come that lobster 🦞 didn’t escape on the red float?

Sometimes I put them on there to film them then afterwards put them in a catch bag

What thickness of gloves are you using? Lobster claws bite pretty hard 😂

5mm. Honestly I don’t mind getting nipped. Brown Crab are a different story though, am careful of them!

@@jackmetcalfe8542 I'm unfamiliar with the rules and laws and all that for spearfishing, is there a license like for fishing or can I just go? If I can just go I might get some stuff together and head down Swansea way.

@@drunkonsuccess779 No license requirement, you can literally just turn up at the sea and start hunting
Worth finding someone else in your local area that will take you out. I started on my own and was doing some insanely dangerous stuff for a beginner, didn't understand the risks
