We have a small logging company in michigan, we select cut specific species for small and medium sized mills around here. I wouldn't have ever thought to start this business if not for swamp loggers . I don't think we've ever missed an episode, I think my wife has some of them memorized from me watching them so much over the years, you are such an inspiration the whole crew. I remember watching "Swamp Loggers" on TV years back and always loved seeing what you and the crew were doing. Years later I found you on youtube and began watching as many as I could to catch up on everything going on. It is sad to see the rising costs end your business. I farm in Anson co NC. I gave up all of my rented land last fall. I am just farming what I own. I guess you could say I am 85% retired. I am enjoying not be under so much pressure. Fuel, fertilizer, seed, parts, etc have gone through the roof. I have time to do things that I have put off, and doing them when I feel like it. Enjoy your Freedom!
Thank you for being inspiration to me Bobby. I watched the show as kid and have always been blown away at what ya'll have accomplished. Living in Pennsylvania we'd never dream of trying to work the ground you have for more years then I've been alive. You started logging when I was 5 years old. And Justin should be passing the business down long after your gone. But that's of no fault of your own. And like my grandfather with his trucking company you went out on your terms. Bobby I feel for you brother ,I’ve ran a small sawmill business for 38 yrs and I’m going to retire from it end of the summer. What is the hardest is it’s who I see my as,a sawmiller! You will always be a logger cause it’s what you see yourself as! I hope you can move on and you and your family enjoy some time together just being yourself.

I miss my 20’s! 20 miles from our shop to IP Courtland. We could haul all the pine and hardwood pulp we wanted to 24/7. Diesel was between 1-2 dollars a gallon on average.

Bobby, I’m not sure that my words will be of comfort, but let me try. As a second-generation owner of a 45 year old machining and fabrication company, I know the place where you are. It’s easy to develop an identity that your business is who you are but rest assured, it is not. A failure for the business to continue to operate IS NOT a personal failure. A personal failure would be to continue to operate until you lost everything. Regardless of whether or not there’s a Goodson Logging, you are still Bobby Goodson Swamp Logger. There’s not a single thing that’s leaving that couldn’t be bought back tomorrow. It’s just machines and “stuff”. Give it long enough and it will all be rust someday anyway. Any business, even a 4th generation family business, is just a means to an end. Don’t have bitterness, trust that God has special plans for you and where He gives, he also takes away. This is one of those times where all eyes are on you to walk the walk of the Faith and not just talk the talk. Be the man for that job as well. More people than ever are ready to see what you’ll do next and this will be a key point of your testimony. Don’t waste this opportunity. Enjoy waking up and not worrying if the mill will take wood, or what the price will be, or how much fuel costs, or if equipment will break. Wasn’t this the point anyway? Im a blacksmith up in Southern Ont and had to cut out all my railing work because OUR idiots in power allowed one of our hardware chain store to import off-shore railing and handrail sections. I have really enjoyed you on swamp loggers, it's horrible for us. Recently I sold out my little logging company "Bigfoot Logging" I started from scratch 7 years ago, I was in the magizine" Southern Logging Times" in 2019 . I thought i would always have logging and I thought my kids would have it ,if they wanted too. Now I am running freight with a little U-Haul truck. I sure miss logging. 😞

@steve mathew cheap fuel in 2020 was caused by global covid shutdowns. want cheap fuel talk the oil compaines into cranking back up the 13 refineries currently idled

I have watched you folks for years on t.v., and later on TH-cam, and it still fascinates me how your crew really wants to work so hard and make a living. I know how hard it is to shut down because I am doing the same thing. The only difference is that I have not let myself sell off my tools. I just cannot bring myself to do it yet. I am not healthy enough to start another job, and at almost 67 years old, another line of work is out. I do wish you the beat, and my wife and I will be praying for you and yours. God bless.

Having enjoyed "Swamp Loggers" I couldn't help seeing that you have always faced low prices and high costs. We can't turn our backs on free European nations trying to hold back totalitarian ones. I felt sorry for you and i must say i was a little misty eyed when i saw your loader moving out knowing that this is the end for you all. You seem to be getting along well which i indeed hope is the case but i can only imagine how gut wrenching this has indeed been for you seeing what you have worked so hard for for so many years slowly disappearing in front of you. My thoughts are with you all keep your heads up and moving forward as best as you can. You are a great guy and family. Hope to continue to see you on fb and youtube in some sort of capacity.

20 miles from our shop to IP Courtland. We could haul all the pine and hardwood pulp we wanted to 24/7. Diesel was between 1-2 dollars a gallon on average.

Bobby, I’m not sure that my words will be of comfort, but let me try. As a second-generation owner of a 45 year old machining and fabrication company, I know the place where you are. It’s easy to develop an identity that your business is who you are but rest assured, it is not. A failure for the business to continue to operate IS NOT a personal failure. A personal failure would be to continue to operate until you lost everything. Regardless of whether or not there’s a Goodson Logging, you are still Bobby Goodson Swamp Logger. There’s not a single thing that’s leaving that couldn’t be bought back tomorrow. It’s just machines and “stuff”. Give it long enough and it will all be rust someday anyway. Any business, even a 4th generation family business, is just a means to an end. Don’t have bitterness, trust that God has special plans for you and where He gives, he also takes away. This is one of those times where all eyes are on you to walk the walk of the Faith and not just talk the talk. Be the man for that job as well. More people than ever are ready to see what you’ll do next and this will be a key point of your testimony. Don’t waste this opportunity. Enjoy waking up and not worrying if the mill will take wood, or what the price will be, or how much fuel costs, or if equipment will break. Wasn’t this the point anyway? Enjoy the blessing of a simple life and a healthy family. I wish you and your family the best. I’ll be watching now more than ever to see what comes next.

Im so sorry to it all ending. Im a blacksmith up in Southern Ont and had to cut out all my railing work because OUR idiots in power allowed one of our hardware chain store to import off-shore railing and handrail sections. Their retail is LESS my my wholesale, small bussiness is slowly being stomped on. May God richly bless you!!
I do not know what to say but sorry.i have been in the towing and recovery field since 1987 and i understand your pain, with fuel and equipment cost it gets harder every day.
I have loved the show and all the hard workers, hate to see you go but this decision may have saved your life from the stress of running the business and all the BS that comes with it.
I have really enjoyed you on swamp loggers, it's horrible for us. Recently I sold out my little logging company "Bigfoot Logging" I started from scratch 7 years ago, I was in the magizine" Southern Logging Times" in 2019 . I thought i would always have logging and I thought my kids would have it ,if they wanted too. Now I am running freight with a little U-Haul truck. I sure miss logging. 😞

@steve mathew well that's the facts also pipelines are only running at 50% capacity but who actually thought fuel would be $2 forever? You can blame the president or whoever you want oil companies chemical companies and insurance companies are having a field day with us right now

I have watched you folks for years on t.v., and later on TH-cam, and it still fascinates me how your crew really wants to work so hard and make a living. I know how hard it is to shut down because I am doing the same thing. The only difference is that I have not let myself sell off my tools. I just cannot bring myself to do it yet. I am not healthy enough to start another job, and at almost 67 years old, another line of work is out. I do wish you the beat, and my wife and I will be praying for you and yours. God bless.

I have watched Bobby and co over the years and cannot say I have ever seen such a worker doing what he knows day in day out. With the luck and with the luck and nature against him and his team its been up and down all the time. I hope Bobby and the family are still in the same up beat mood in a few months time. As bobby says “I’m busy now and has not hit me” let the 100,000 subscribers think of the work and work ethic that has been show repeatedly over the years and remember it is not a reality show it is real life. A life that has been reduced to pain and sorrow and as hard a choice as ever has been taken. Its not one family that has been effected but every one of the team he has drawn together and formed into a cooperating and diligent working team. That is not done by “management speak” or “corporate policy” its by true belief in what was being done.
