    Great review! Absolutely love the Manix 2. Fidget factor goes up to a 10/10 imo when you add a lightweight spring and ceramic ball. Makes it very addicting to flip all day!

      @Rollshambo  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're speaking my language! A buddy of mine did scales, ball, and cage on his manix 2 and after I checked it out I was supremely jealous...got some ideas now for my manix! Cheers🍻

      @holdernewtshesrearin5471 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd be cautious with a manix-2 so modified.
      The Spyderco ball bearing lock is NOT an Axis lock. Instead of a cylindrical pin it uses a hardened ball bearing to wedge between the blades locking ramp and the back spacer/anvil and as such actually has very little surface contact as compared to the Axis locks cylindrical pin.
      The bearing requires heavy spring pressure to keep it from "PYOOOIINNGING!" out of the lock ramp and allowing the blade to close on your fingers.
      It's fine to reduce spring pressure by 10% maybe 20% MAX but most of these ceramic ball/spring kits I've seen reduce pressure by 40% or so, well beyond the 20% safety margin designed into such things.
      Plus the ceramic ball has a lower friction coefficient than the standard tool steel ball further reducing the locks ability to remain locked.
      If you dont "hard use" your manix-2 it's probably fine but of you do, I'd exercise extreme caution.
      If it were me, I'd replace just the polymer cage with a titanium or aluminum model and leave the ball bearing and spring stock.
      Or just reduce spring tension by 15% . Which can be done by removing a couple coils from the spring and installing a spacer or stretching it out. Detailed info on springs and spring rate modification is available online. It's more complex than you realize.
      Just my 2 cents....

    I love Spydercos. I couldn’t get behind the Manix 2 until I went to the factory store and tried the Manix 2 XL. That one felt much better in the hand. I think if I get one, I would put on an aftermarket ball cage. The plastic was just a fail for feel.

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  ปีที่แล้ว

      That ball bearing cage is definitely something that is going to (eventually) get upgraded on mine, scales too because I'm a suckered for titanium😂

    I’ve carried a Manix 2 for over a year now. I do a lot of heavy cutting for my work and it hasn’t failed me yet! I understand the handle would be uncomfortable for some, but my hands are pretty calloused so it doesn’t bother me. Love your content!

  • @NedKnives
    @NedKnives ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with your assessment of this knife. I grabbed this same knife and then upgraded the scales with Applied Weapons Technologies scales that take the weight down 2 oz and remove the liners completely. I also changed out the plastic ball cage lock for an aluminum one from Flytanium and then changed the clip to a LynchNW deep carry clip. Vastly improved the knife in my opinion.

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice mods!! I love that there are options to switch out parts for spyderco my only problem is that between scales clips hardware and other pieces it can get expensive😂 then again its also because I have a thing for making these knives titanium so that's entirely my fault

    I'm eagerly awaiting my first Spyderco from the US, the manix 2, and based on what I've seen online, I strongly disagree with your rankings on several aspects. Even though I'm a year late to this video, I'll provide my final assessment once I receive the knife. While I haven't had the chance to handle other Spydercos, there are certain points in your review that I disagree with and find relevant even without a direct comparison. I'll be back with my thoughts as soon as I can.

    Have you used the Manix 2 Lightweight? it seems to address the gimping issue on the handle that you mentioned. The FRCP does flex but not very much unless you are trying very hard to press both sides together and not that I have noticed when actually using the knife to cut stuff.
    I have the recently released GPKnives Rex 45 "Stormtrooper" limited edition lightweight.
    The first one isn't drop shut and I am still breaking it in.
    The 2nd one (being the first knife model that I bought two of the exact same SKU twice) was actually drop shut out of the box but I am keeping it unused as a spare, just in case.

    One of the best hard use tactical folders on the market imo. I've owned 7 of them and they've all been excellent.
    The CPM-M4 blade and natural G-10 model is my favorite but the standard CPM-S30V and black G-10 is my go-to EDC. I've owned it for 12 yrs now and it's still trucking like new. Superb knife. I paid $72 for it brand new!

    Totally dig the manix 2 . I never liked the look since they came out in the 90 s and never tried one until recently ar a fin fir and feather store and was impressed with the ergos from the rip , especially choked up 👍👍. It wasn’t overly pricey either with the g10 scales amd s30v , $140.00 and then the aftermarket mods are plentiful which made the purchase even better . Scales , cage , screws , backspacer , clip , all available for modding but hardly needed . Just the cage and scales totally changes the look

    I agree with you about the ball bearing lock strength it's incredibly strong and a very smart innovative approach. The manix is just a working knife man it's super utilitarian. And yes I also think spyderco has a great factory edge they always come extremely sharp. I think the only issue with spyderco heat treatments have been with some of their sprint runs but generally speaking there consistently on point.

    I have the same model. Visited Golden Colorado a year ago & Spyderco HQ was a must stop. So had mine a year. Only other Spyderco I've owned is the Endura. Got it when they first came out, lost it in house fire. Bought another Endura in K-390 while I was out there.
    I would have rated the Manix higher in a couple of those categories but it's your channel & respect your view. BTW, am I the only person that likes the Spyderco pocket clip ? I'm not a big deep carry fan. Manix is good grip but I wear Xtra large gloves so I'm thinking the XL Manix is on my future buy list.

    Good video - My ranking Love my Manix 2 LW in SPy27 once I lubed it up (was sticky when I first bought) - solid knife, also it came with screws instead of the rivets like my older Manix2 CPM110.. Love my Smock once I switched out to Ti scales, added skiff bearings and removed the 2nd detent .. Bought a PM2 in Crucarta - dont like it and really dont see what the love of the PM2 is all about - Manix does it better to me.. Have a PM3 that is fun but I dont love it, very fidgety much more than the PM2 Crucarta... anyway will be selling the PM2,PM3 and Manix S110V soon.... Hoping Spyderco makes a Manix 2 in LC200 or Magnacut - be all over that one... Merry Christmas to ya !

      its just my opinion, sometimes people wont agree but that is after all the nature of opinions. To my hands the extra jimping on the palm side of the handlescales is uneccesarily high and wears on the hand for extended use (many aftermarket scale options delete this so I know its not just me) so while its not immediately a hotspot at least for me it becomes one, I do think the manix 2 is a good knife but for my tastes I prefer the paramilitary 2, the para 3 or the shaman, thanks for dropping by

    You made way too big a deal about the jimping and scored the ergos too low. I use this knife daily in construction bare handed and have never had a hot spot or discomfort from the ergos. In fact, I would score this knife at the top of your list in the ergonomics category. I own well over 100 knives with the bulk numbers being Benchmade and Spyderco. The Manix 2 is always my default carry knife when I can’t make up my mind which one to use for the day.
