East side has the best food! Bedok area has so many eateries and hawkers,every 10 steps you will find food. Tons of supper place. Lucky i moved to the west side,i slimmed down a lot but i still missed staying in the east area. Simpang bedok,bedok north,bedok south,east coast road,upper east coast road,joo chiat,siglap geylang etc;
The longan fleet is translucent and wraps around a spherical black seed, making it look like an eye. It loses the eye-looking quality when it’s de-seeded and canned in syrup like the one on the dessert. The Chinese named it longan or dragon’s eye, as you mentioned. There’s a similar fruit called mata kuching, which is cat’s eye in Malay. Same idea. :)
Great video, I really enjoy when you discover the more ”rural” parts of S-pore. When it comes to streetfood, you will for shore never get dissapointed 🙂👍
Simpang bedok! Nice place! From there go straight like 1km. You land to bedok corner hawker centres. Another nice foodie place with lotsa satay, and some local delights must go!
Are we missing out on a sweet little girl? Not sure if you have been there but more good food across the road(Bedok Market Place). Supposedly good wanton noodles, food shops all around and even on the 2nd level of the main building. Opposite bus will take you to another one(Bedok Corner Food Centre). 3 stops or 10 mins walk, supposedly very good Cheng Tng and many more. Have not been there for a long time but I believe it's still good. Cheers🍻
So much eating to be done! We actually looked upstairs at the Bedok market place and were so surprised to see a more modern style of hawker, we’d love to go back one evening and experience it.
That was such fun, there are so many places to try different food, and you do such wonderful videos. Thank you so much for showing us. What do the red bananas taste like, do you bake them?
Thank you for your support and kind words. The red bananas are slightly firmer and sweeter. You can cook them too - we have a family favourite after a bbq to make banana boats. th-cam.com/video/QLgE4yMjDzE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x7o-y3XQMiSJVNAX Like this - but we wrap ours in foil!
Based on what i understand about roti john, you are right john was what they used to call the western miltary personnel in sg at that time. When they came to local vendors to buy burgers, no one understood what that was so they just put meat and eggs in bread and gave it to them, calling it roti john
Turns out I sat at that exact table today. I wanted chicken rice with both steamed and roasted chicken but didn’t order correctly and instead got half a chicken in each style! Ended up eating a little over a half chicken and took the rest back 😅
@@JanetReesinck haha Millie here. Not at all, that’s what it’s for after all. The first aider commented what a good idea it was. So if you ever get stuck without a first aid find a woman!
@@WONDERLUSTworld Good morning, Millie. It was really funny! My 12-year-old goddaughter had a rupture on her lip herpes and it bled profusely at school. So while we picked her up from school, on the way to the hospital, we suggested that she stick a pad around that area until she arrived😜 So we got through the journey to the hospital!
Another enjoyable video 👍🏼 Just started to notice that Jonty sounds more and more local when talking to other Singaporeans - ie. When asking for more chicken rice chilli 😆 Happy Lunar New Year and have a wonderful reunion dinner.
Hehe the local accent is starting to come in ☺️ Aspen has a very local accent when speaking to her local friend at the play park or local adults. Very interesting to hear. I like the blend of accents and languages. Happy lunar new year to you and your family also.
Jian bing looks amazing!!! I think it’s pretty different. Some others have said the John is left over from the UK army being here and was a nickname for the soldiers.
Indian food can be quite spicy! I’m getting more tolerant of spices though. I like to have a mix of spicy and non spicy. A whole dish is a bit much sometimes! Thanks for the recommendation
bitter taste in Cheng Teng? hmm prolly White Fungus or lotus seed or gingko nuts. the other ingredients are sweeter. don't think the ingredient are related to mala pot? star anise seed herb use in mala, could be bittler.
I like the star anise flavour and use it in my braised pork dish so I’m not sure it’s that. I think I’ll have to try mala again and see if I can figure it out!! Thanks for the comment 😀
Roti = bread. John Doe = dough innit. It was a hungover cure slapped together for an inebriated Cockney sailor. A mutton soup seller had some stale baguettes and leftover mutton, so he tossed it all together in a fry up. Real or totally made up, you decide. 🥲

Hello wonderlust channel ! look good day with your tour ! good luck I am PhiromWalker from Cambodia !😍
Oh we loved Cambodia! We have a few videos on our channel from our visit to Cambodia.

Thanks for sharing! With the seed it does look much more like an eye.

Ooh nice!! Thanks for the recommendation
Surprised to see you around the Bedok Market area, definitely been introduced to this place by a local Singaporean friend.
As we said in the video we just decided to stop there as we dropped Aspen near by and we wondered what was in the area!
Very interesting and varied food tour! Like it 😊! I’ve never eaten roti John or tried the red banana either! Will def try on my next visit 😊
Glad we’ve inspired you to try something new.
Can't wait to visit Singapore and try these places! Great work Jonty! Loving the content!
When are you planning on coming? The content a family project and Millie actually edits our videos 😀
@@WONDERLUSTworld Most probably next month or the month after. I'd like to be in one of the vlogs! hahaha

Ah so much food everywhere haha we were too full to try the other side. Another time perhaps
Still amazed at how much you guys eat! I’m with Millie on those deserts - not so sure.
Lovely to see Milo more in this one. So much hair 😮🦋💜
Haha 😛 we just had tastes of everything. ❤️
you can consider doing a HDB estates in walking with wonderlust.. there’s so much to see :D
Ah thanks for the suggestion. Do you have a particular one to recommend?
I guess it’s still your preferences on places that you’re familiar with ya😉❤
We like trying new things too 😀

That’s quite amusing. I find language fascinating and how these phrases and words used so widely now came about. Thanks for sharing it.

Haha that’s a lot of chicken! At least you can take it back for later. What did you think of it?
Hey, Jonty. Are you kidding when you mentioned using the pad to stop bleeding?

Same to you! Thank you
This place is called Simpang Bedok. Many good food but many has also changed through the years.
At thanks for the info. What’s changed in particular?
Would the roti John come from jian as in jian bing ... not sure how the jian is pronounced?
Jian bing looks amazing!!! I think it’s pretty different. Some others have said the John is left over from the UK army being here and was a nickname for the soldiers.
That beehoon has a nickname to it, called chao tar beehoon, aka burnt beehoon. 😅
Ah thanks for sharing! Do you like it?
I’m sure Jonty is Singapore born and bred in the UK😬
Yes - I think in the moment I was trying to explain to the shop owner that I have Chinese heritage... but it all came out a jumble..
What were you drinking that's sour? Just so I can avoid it. 😄😄 Have a great weekend and holidays! 😁😁
Haha my order is passion fruit green tea but I had less sugar this time. My friends always comment on my 100% sugar so I went less.
Yum roti prata! I cant take spicy indian foods so i get the plain ones
My fav foodie guru is Kf seetoh :) i follow his channel.

back in the day we called every western Johnny...and this dish was created for the Johnny..hence the name roti Johnny
Thanks for that!
John = Ang Mo
Thanks!
I love Ching teng!
I’ve tried many times and still can’t take it!
