Nice to see a solo win. I usually lower my volume significantly in training in June through Aug. Just fast groupos or cherry pick races. The heat and altitude definitely effects my recovery and freshness.
Take it from Jeff in CA and me in FL, the heat is real and it can break you quickly. For every one degree your body temp rises, your heart rate goes up 10bpm. That's significant. I made the mistake a few years ago to do a lot of training indoors, I'm talking a few months of nothing but trainer rides. Then I went and did a ride with the local group and fell apart after about an hour. I just wasn't acclimated to the heat. Lesson learned. I know it sucks, but riding outdoors this time of the year requires adaptation and acclimation. Just start out slow and work your way up to being able to spend a few hours out there. My daily ride starts at 6 a.m., and I'm usually the last out the door. Many of my friends are on their bikes by 4:30.
No doubt. i had a VO2 workout scheduled yesterday and tried to do it out in 90-95F heat... bailed out on rep 3. HR was pegged and breathing air that felt like a furnace exhaust was intolerable. lesson learned.
@@8584zender Yeah, that would be super tough. Better to do a trainer workout if it's that hot outside, or try to get out before the sun comes up if you can. Mother Nature don't play.
I forgot about this I just wanna let you know a year ago I probably watch 60 hours of your foot is now I have a six pack but it's not from riding bikes just anyways hey you're an inspiration to people thank you don't stop get it get it never stop
Great video Jeff enjoyed that. I recorded my first race in the UK last week and uploaded it too. Your videos have inspired me a lot, and have just turned cat 3. Keep up the videos I love them 😃
Jeff, now do a video for us mere mortals. It would be called 'How to win a race when you're not a sprinter, breakaway rider, strong climber, or strong at all'. That would be a great video for me. 🙃
am doing a marathon watching and rewatcing all of you alviso's videos at work didn't realize this was uploaded 14 minutes ago looool this is the first time I see you get crushed this hard at alviso love the videos keep em coming and I'll keep slacking off I guess 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Remember training for a Marathon some years ago.. Dit tons of running the last months leading up to it in 40-60F degree I had no problems with heartrate maraton pace in training I was at 140-145 .. Then 3 days before the marathon the Heat came and it jumped up to 90ish .. At same speed 5k in my heartrate was 165 only due to heat it was a badd day :P
Moral of the story - dont pace to HR! Also dont use stims in hot weather as they increase so many negative biomarkers that only colder weather can tolerate.
if you need to accelerate or climb, you're gonna have a bad time. When i'm up against big heavy powerful sprinters, I just make them accelerate as much as possible.
Nice video and I do really enjoy it. Besides, I wondering, could you make a bike fitting video of yourself. Share your experience of bike fit. That might be more interesting. 😄
what do you use to hydrate before and after and how much do you drink during the ride given your weight? I always find myself even with fancy powder electrolyte mix I drink tons of water afterwards when its hot like that. How do you recover after hard workouts in the heat? Heat builds up ridiculous stress levels, but I don't want to peak too early in the season
How do you feel about the mechanical ultegra you are using, is it good enough for sprinting? I want to buy a new bike probably aero, but my budget falls in or 105/ultegra mechanical. Or should i wait for 105 di2?
Pros raced and sprinted on mechaincal groupsets for a long long time. And current mechanical groups have only gotten better. Why WOULDN'T they be good enough for you?
@@TheBRad704 Im not sure. I never tried di2 but from what i heard its just a click on a button kinda. I want to get into racing soon and a couple of days i tried shifting while sprinting on 105, it was kinda awkard and felt it would do damage. Is this something you need to get used too?
I assume the people who say I'm not a sprinter and then wait for a sprint probably just haven't been able to be honest with themselves, look into the mirror and say out loud "I suck"
so you tow Max to the finish and then stop spinning to let them take 2nd and 3rd? I don't get it. Is he your teamate or friend? What were the results? Blane 1st, 2nd Max, Dante 3-4th?
It's flat, why would they need the small ring? You can ride 15mph on the big ring without too much cross-chaining. And they don't ride that slow anyway.
Its a race dont be upset that the other racers arent cooperating. "I dont want to lead them thats not how im gonna win" Well the guy that beat you didnt rely on other riders -shrug

Great race. Great footage.....and the lesson for me is.... punch it when there's 5-10k to go...That's a long time to be in pain....Will try next week.
Another alviso vid. Great way to start the week
Hey Jeff, I'm a climber! Really enjoy the Alviso's knowing I'll never be top 3 because I'm too slow on the flats
Don't worry i suck at hills so I'll never be top 50 in hill climbs
@Laysee Feel that! Got the same Problem😂
It then practice riding in the flat doing zone 4. Then do some zone 5 efforts. I used to have that same problem. I now I can time trial and climb.

Dang I need to chat with Blane then. While my sprint is getting better month by month, I'm very much a (low level) breakaway/TT dude!

Do you have a video to show how you make the footage look this good. I have a Gopro but it never comes out like this..
