Awesome video Jeff! The way you executed that strategy was so fun to watch. Your footage in commentary is the gold standard here on TH-cam. Thank you man!😊
It's the result of years of training, nutrition, tactics and the bikes definitely help. I might be able to get onto their wheel but the physical ability to maintain power and hang in a bunch like this is the big difference and the bikes just help that, really
18mph avg after only 4 months of riding is really good! Jeff and the guys in these videos have years of racing experience and strong legs powering larger gears than what casual cyclists use. On an entry level bike with subcompact gearing you would need to pedal insanely fast (like 125+ rpm) to even reach 42mph.
you dominated them with cool headedness, a great training program and ur technical skills. Im sure they would beat you if they saved up their energy more or collabarated! Well done guys.
I just found your TH-cam channel, and it’s awesome! I create racing content as well and think our channels have a lot in common. I recently bought an Insta360 X4 and plan to use it to share more details about my competitions. Your channel is great, and I hope you get the chance to ride on Colombian routes. I'll be in Atlanta on September 29th, participating in the 6 Gap ride-lots of mountains, which I love.
I am new to cycling and new to this channel. Can someone explain why it appears this race is being done on streets with vehicles driving on it? Isn't this a professional race? I thought these type races would be on a closed circuit.
This is a practice race they run on open roads. Traffic used to be nonexistent in his earlier uploads, but the area got built up a little more so now traffics a little higher
@livinlifeoverfifty no worries! I've been watching NorCal for a while. He genuinely may not have mentioned any of that this time so if you didn't know it's ok
Is the judgement of "the break away group is too big" just a matter of "if it's big enough for people to skip pulls without being noticed it's too big", or are there more factors that could contribute?
skipped pulls are always noticed 😅 and if they're not that's an easy way to lose a race. There's no rule on the size of a functional breakaway, i've been in 10+ breaks where everyone is working and it's friendly. I've also been in 2 person breakaways where my breakmate is immediately skipping and playing games. when I say "too big" i just mean there's enough disruption to encourage people to either stop contributing, start attacking, or both.
Love the channel and I don't mean to be overly critical, but honestly I thought that the non-360 footage that you used to have was more immersive somehow.
You can always shift, even when sprinting BUT it is not best practice as it puts much more stress on the drivetrain when you are putting a ton of power thru the pedals when shifting. I would say most shift to a smaller rear cog and then get out of the saddle for a sprint. Im not a racer and don’t have di2 so anyone please correct me. Love to learn new things
We spend so much money looking for Aero and marginal gains and the clean up the front end of the bike and then we just have this huge item hanging off the front. The faster you go the more drag that has to slow you down. I wonder how much it negatively effects the aero of the bike
It definitely slows you down by making you heavier but I'm not convinced the out-front mount has any measurable impact on aerodynamics, especially compared to a gopro, or helmet mount. I'm making a video to test these different configurations 🤘
It's a regular Friday afternoon (from memory) non sanctioned ride. It's not much more than a bunch of local riders going out for a training ride. Makes for good video though.
How is the traffic working? You go through crossroads with full speed and don't care about cars? Is there someone who inform car drivers about excluded parts of the road? I'm living in Europe and I would be hit by a car at the entrance to the first intersection.
Jeff has said they look out for cars and will pause the race if cars get in the way. For the turn onto the main road, seems like the right-turning vehicles get their own lane so they wouldn't be interfering with cars on that road when turning. This is also a very lightly travelled industrial-ish area in the far outskirts of the city. We typically don't have the same level of urban density as you do in Europe, and that's especially true of San Jose, which is one of the most sprawling cities you'll ever see.
combination of hgh, testosterone and anabolics. jk in all seriousness i think it mostly has to do with lens distortion i'm a typical scrawny-armed cyclist
Jeff, you would be more aero on the hoods. Looks like you ride in the drops alot? Also, looks like you could use narrower handlebars. But that could be an effect of the video
@@NorCalCycling That's true. But you are in the drops most of the time, not just when sprinting or putting down big power. We spend so much time looking for aero gains, but simply changing from the drops to the hoods can save you 10 w!
great content, but as someone fairly new to group riding, I think stuff like this puts cycling in a bad light. Blowing thru stop signs with cars around makes for bad PR for the rest of us. I'm nervous enough with road riding as it is, and only idaho stop when I know no one can see me do it. I much prefer gravel riding with as few stop signs as possible. I already get grief when we ride 2-up on the road (which is legal here).
I had a 4 video agreement with insta360 to help promote their x4. This was the last of the 4 so probably no more for a while. But I like their product and this campaign went well so maybe more in the future, who knows? i want to be as open and transparent with you guys as possible, and if I can score you discounts on cool products like this it's a win-win
Alviso isn’t anything too official. No sign ups required and anybody can join. It’s mob mentality. As you can see here though, these guys are no joke and these Wednesday lunch time races are just a fun game that has great training benefits.
Thy also call off the practice race before and during if there are too many cars or if it’s too unsafe. He explained it before and on one of the videos they called of practice mid race.
Hi Jeff, I like your content however I don't like the Insta 360 footage. Too much lens distortion. See the electricity poles left and right. I feel like a goldfish in a bowl. Which distracts me from the subject. I consider to unsubscribe from your channel.
Thanks for your reply Jeff. I understand you want a small light weight camera on your bike like the Gopro Sesison 5 however Gopro did not get it with the Gopro Mini. The best camera would be a Gopro 13 in Session 5 size without a screen and fully controled by an app on a phone.
@@NorCalCyclingBro fux these guys... The knowledge you share is crazy valuable. Keep doing your thing. And don't listen to guys that have a 5 second attention span

correct, on a flat course, especially a non-technical one the weight becomes less and less important. no hills, no accelerations weight is negligible
