I hate technical couses also but something about this video made me want to race this course. I think it's the lack of pot holes and just that over all smoothness of the pavement in the video. Gave me an itch to rip it through some corners with the threat of on coming cars.
Don't wear Ryan out narrating these great videos, Jeff. Nice team win! And man, it's crazy the decision-making that's going on out there -- not to mention the strength.
Love these videos - just wish we had more live audio of the racing w/o narration. Find myself muting each one experiencing the awesome visuals, though.
Looking at the title of the video again I'm thinking "Yeah, let me SURVIVE most of my races like this." Amazing timing on so many moves, guys! Very well executed!
Really nice coverage enjoyed that thanks for sharing looks like a little industrial park that might have a little brewery in there noticing all those wall murals, like a little arts District/warehouse/apartments. This course will be really fun for a fixed gear criterium also I think that would be very interesting lots of slowing down and turns in accelerating and then backpedaling slowing down accelerating the kind of really cool
What is the tool you use to capture your W, BPM, road map, as well as speeds on screen? (Is that the "cycling computer?" Sorry if that's been asked & answered 1M times!)
speedometer aka cycling computer that records gps based speed and position, power, heart rate and cadence. And ofcourse the sensors that transfers data thru bluetooth.I think if you use garmin cyclo computers, you can directly upload your recorded data to an app where you can easily integrate it to your go pro recording as well.
road course vs crit course. different rider types specialize in each type. climbers vs flat-lander sprinter types. Some riders excel at each type, but the hilly road courses are typically referred to as "harder", but it just depends upon the race and who's in it.
This circuit inspires me what if normal stock sports cars are able to race on street road. That'd be exciting. Anyone knows someone who is passionate to have those event? Those natural aspired engine cars going corner sounds already exciting.
Who was he talking to about needing 4/5 riders in the front? Do they ride with radio communication in crits? it sounded not loud enough for the person in front of him to hear it
I think this is because in amateur racing teams riders' abilities vary a lot. A pro team will distribute its riders into different roles, but amateur teams are more of 'the best guy does everything and the rest of the team just struggle to finish the race'
@@f1clips606 I think even the stronger riders in this crit are probably closer to the 275-325 range. I guarantee you some of these riders have a 425 W FTP however it doesn't take crazy power to win crits, especially in a course like this it's more about tactics and using your strengths. I think even Jeff's FTP is only like 300 something, and you see him winning Alviso all the time
@@f1clips606 Idk about that man, I follow L39ion on strava. Even when the compete in crits. They normalize about 260. That's even for CJ, the heavier brother. So I doubt you have to hold 400 watts.
@@geraldtone5914 nowhere near 400. FTP is semi irrelevant - yeah you need to be strong, a 300 watt FTP as a general indication of fitness is about right, but it's more the ability to spike 1000 watts out of multiple corners multiple times, and then settle back into the tempo
Nice vid and great win but please keep it honest. At 5:07 Ryan lets two riders go off the front. He first says that he was the dedicated sprinter so he shouldn't waste energy. But he was chasing breaks before and does attack after attack later on, even trying to go solo. Then he says that he was taking a calculated risk, as he was happy to let the two riders go and have Project 74 bringing them back. However, we see him chasing by doing well over 400 watts for about 40 seconds. Just be honest and say that you didn't have the legs to close it down. This is a great channel, one of the very best in explaining tactics, but by sugarcoating things it loses appeal and it diminishes the quality of the explanations given. I've seen this in a few previous vids as well. Everything that happens gets explained away as being a great choice. Don't let ego get in the way of the usually great race analyses.
Ryan’s HR is 170 at that point. He was closing gaps and launching counterattacks at 180+ throughout the race. I believe him when he says it was energy conservation rather than fried legs
@@acronov You can't say that you don't chase as your job is to save energy as you're the dedicated sprinter and at the same time chase other breaks, do attack after attack and even go solo. Just as you can't say that you take a calculated risk and let another team do the chase while doing well over 400 watts for about 40 seconds on the front chasing.
So what, his options are to never close gaps or always close gaps? He closed the gaps he thought would be advantageous to close and he didn’t close the gaps he thought would be disadvantageous to close. You say he gave up chasing because he didn’t have the legs but he was at 170 bpm in a race where he was regularly at 180+ and won with a long sprint. Energy conservation and race strategy seem like a much more plausible explanation for him letting those two riders go than lack of leg power
Someone whose job is to chase should be willing to self destruct to close a gap mid-race. Someone whose job is to sprint should not be willing to do that
@@acronov If doing 400 watts on the front is saving your legs, you might want to call a Worldtour team. It looks like he tried to close the gap, did a serious but not all out effort but only saw the gap getting bigger. He then realised he couldn't close it and gave up. The point is that he is contradicting himself, making it sound like he is just making excuses. He can't have it both ways, saying he decided to let another team do the chasing while doing the chasing himself.
Man these race breakdown videos are so good.
Frankly stunned at the speed they carry for the whole damn race
I think it would be really interesting if you’d show us more of the team and how you guys work and train together
I second this. I wish everyone was running a GoPro so Jeff could switch around as needed to show how each team member contributed.
That was a fun race. I don't personally often like highly technical crit races, but that course seemed legit cool. Congrats on the beast mode win.

Insane power in that last 800m!
Crazy footage you brought us Jeff! That’s crit racing to it’s finest.
The teamwork from this race was perfection
Well done Ryan. Smashed it after Tim wore everyone's legs off them.
Now that was a fun course. Love all the corners and the hill made it interesting as well. Congrats on the win!

wow this course loooks sooooo smooth!!!!
wait this is my home town!!! thats so cool im just getting into cycling and thats cool seeing this less than 5 min away from my house
Holy smokes. Ryan is a monster!! Multiple 1.4K and countless 1.k+ wattts
Does anybody knows what handlebar is the guy on red jersey pink bike, on 0:14 - 0:21 running ?
Monster power, great riding !
Any love for the giant skeletons at 2:07 on the right side of the frame?
That was won with the most amazing discipline and tactics 👍🏻 and the legs obviously 😂
it would be an excellent idea do a video explaining and showing how to cornering and how to have a better technique
Props to Tim, great team win!
Crazy technical fast course! Exciting
Ooohhh! Those rainbow chrome ENVE wheel graphics at the start!
Which bike is most popular in your races? Tarmac, tcr, super six?
Hey Jeff what happened at about the 9:45 mark on the little corner course map? Looks like Ryan took a short cut then a course correction. HAHA
Good work man
Such a cool course. If I wasnt so scared of asphalt (MTB guy) I’d move across the country and start racing road bikes here 😂

I actually felt nauseous he was coming through so fast at the end, savage stuff
Excellent video thank you !
This is my new favorite course on the calendar.
I don't know if you have herd of the Nevada City Classic or Cats Hill in Los Gatos, aren't those harder corses???

How do you get the map at the bottom left in sync with the actual ride? Is there a program for this?
Wow! I’m a climber, but these videos are awesome. These videos wish I could do crits
Cool transitions!
Please jeff how you put the details of the speed and power and rpm etc…
Thanks.
Enough with the team work makes the dream work
Is it worth getting a gopro to analyze your racing?
Where do you find the races?
Very nice. But when will the european racing video's be back?
Hi, i like yours videos. What software do you use for telemetry?. Thanks
Good ride strong tactics

They do have radios every now and again, I wasnt there so I'm not sure they were using them but they were the race before this
Great race, love this course too. Congrats Ryan & Team MikesBikes!
Ryan sounds like Matt Damon. hahah that aside maaad skills!!!
how you implement all the stats into your vid
if you are the protected sprinter, why would you attack all the time? Or was he just playing around cuz he can?:D
I think this is because in amateur racing teams riders' abilities vary a lot. A pro team will distribute its riders into different roles, but amateur teams are more of 'the best guy does everything and the rest of the team just struggle to finish the race'
Ryan. Dude…
DOOD! 💪🏼😎
You should put lap count on
I laughed every time Jeff called that tiny incline a hill :)
These videos are so awesome! I learn so much in each one.
What is the wattage to be held for an hour to join a crit?
350-400 watts

That Crit course is fantastic!
monster
Wow what a great finish
monster! how many times can he hit 1000+ watts? 😳 I was out of breath watching him..
Insane 1min power
Course looks interesting to say the least
The best cycling content on the Tube! If you did more mtb stuff it would be perfect
😮 we’re just gonna gloss over he maintained a 1000wts for like a min. 🫠🤯 holy cow this dude is insanely strong.
I approve of this #GoSoloCuzYolo move. Le'SlingShot!
The raddest final lap ever
I swear i have seen this video before
Really cool looking course
Tougher than Cats Hill?
the watts make me dizzy
Something important too is the helmets, these helmets are outdated, cyclist should get an nta helmet like xnito or bern hudson
Look like a circuit

I would be curious to know the average price of these bikes
That footage looks like a video game!
